  • This paper proposed a novel current measurement method for two-phase half-bridge inverter using single current sensor. The proposed method measures DC link input current and a phase current simultaneously and reconstructs each phase currents by simple calculation according to voltage vector. The commutation modes of two-phase half-bridge inverter is analized. The current sampling and reconstructing method is also presented. The proposed method is verified through simulation and experimental results on two-phase induction motor drive system.

  • A strategy that can maximize the efficiency of the inverter system for the non-magnetic material is proposed. Frequency control and variable DC-Link voltage control are compared and analyzed by the experimental results. The experimental results show the variable DC-Link voltage control is superior to the frequency control with respect to improve the efficiency of the inverter system. MOSFETs and IGBTs are used as switching devices and IGBTs are considerable as better switching devices for improving the efficiency of the inverter system.

  • The reverse link of a spectrally overlaid macrocell/microcell cellular CDMA system supporting multimedia traffic is characterized in terms of the required signal power, interference, and capacity. Several narrowband subsystems are overlaid with a wideband subsystem in macrocells, while a single wideband subsystem is operated in a microcell with the same spectrum as the macrocell wideband subsystem. Using a typical propagation model the reverse link signal power and interference are characterized as the relative user signal power and the cross-tier interference factors between the macrocell and the microcell. The reverse link capacity of the overlay system is then analyzed. Analytical results show that the dominant parameters affecting the system performance are the spectral overlay ratio and the distance between the microcell and macrocell base stations. In particular, when the distance equals a half of macrocell radius, optimum performance can be achieved by minimizing the cross-tier interference factors. These results can be applied to CDMA multimedia network planning in heavily populated traffic areas.

  • A simplified, practical vector network analyzer (VNA) that uses mature radio-over-fiber technology has been designed and demonstrated. The measurement concept allows the full S-parameters of a microwave device (or antenna) to be obtained while minimizing the detrimental effects of electrical cables, which are replaced with a photonic link. A variety of high-frequency light modulation schemes with frequency sweeping capabilities are presented to realize a one-path (single, forward), frequency-multiplied optical link for VNA applications. Using the photonic one-path link, full two-port S-parameters have been extracted based on five-term error modeling, which has half the error terms compared with the standard duplex configuration. The S-parameters of a microwave filter and antenna measured using frequency-multiplied optical links are found to be in good agreement with those obtained using a conventional VNA.

  • In this paper, a control algorithm for DC-Link voltage unbalancing compensation of a four-switch inverter for a three-phase BLDC motor drive is proposed. Compared with a conventional six-switch inverter, the split source of the four-switch inverter can be obtained by splitting DC-link capacitor into two capacitors to drive the three phase BLDC motor. The voltages across each of two capacitors are not always equal in steady state because of the unbalance in the impedance of the DC-link capacitors $C_1$ and $C_2$ or the variable current flowed into the capacitor's neutral point in motor control. Despite the unbalance, if the BLDC motor may be run for a long time the voltage across one of the capacitors is more increased. So the unbalance in the capacitors voltages will be accelerated. As a result, The current ripple and torque ripple is increased due to the fluctuation of input current which flows into 3-phase BLDC motor. According to that, the vibration of motor will be increased and the whole system will be instable. This paper presents a control algorithm for DC-Link voltage unbalancing compensation. The sampling from the voltages across each of two capacitors is used to perform the voltage control of DC-Link by using the feedforward controller.

  • We proposed a flexible link configuration in a system combining mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) and dispersion management used for long-distance transmission of high-capacity optical signals such as wavelength division multiplexing signals, and examined specific methods to increase chromatic dispersion and nonlinear distortion compensation effects. The dispersion map proposed to increase the flexibility of dispersion-managed link configuration has a 'random-inverse' structure. That is, in the proposed dispersion map, the residual dispersion per span (RDPS) of each fiber span in the first half section up to the optical phase conjugator is randomly distributed, and the RDPS distribution in the second half section reverses the distribution pattern of the first section. Although the proposed dispersion map has a random distribution of RDPS, it was confirmed that the distortion compensation effect is improved due to the fact that the dispersion profile is symmetrical with respect to the optical phase conjugator. In the dispersion map of the 'random-inverse' configuration, it was also confirmed that the compensation effect of the distorted wavelength division multiplexing signal becomes improved when the magnitude of the RDPS allocated to each fiber span is large.

  • In this paper, a planar active retrodirective four-element array with subharmonic phase conjugation mixers based on anti-parallel diode pairs (APDPs) is designed, and its application in the auto-tracking duplex communication link is presented. As compared to previous phase conjugation mixers using twice RF frequency for LO frequency, the proposed conjugation mixers need only half RF frequency so that it can be easily applied for millimeter-wave applications. The proposed architecture, which conventionally performs the function of the transmission of an incident signal back in the direction of its source, is modified in order to include a receive function. Experimental verification of these architectures is performed at 1GHz and the results from the prototypes are compared with a theoretical model.

The rating for this investigation is residential system (3-5kW) that interface with a 220V single phase utility connection. As the result of this investigation. a 3kW high frequency PWM IGBT inverter feeding a high frequency isolation transformer with a sinusoidal current wave was selected. The output of the transformer rectified with a diode bridge rectifier four IGBT, used as 60Hz switched, reverse the polarity of the rectified current on every other half cycle of the utility voltage. Even though the high frequency link system used more power semiconductors, a net size, weight, and parts cost saving result compared to the other systems due to elimination of 60Hz transformer.
