  • We fabricated a new hairpin type HTS 2-pole microstrip Bandpass filter to operate at 5.8GHz. The fabrication method was pulsed laser deposition and YBCO films were deposited on ${\alpha}$-A1$_2O_3$ substrates with a CeO$_2$ thin layer as a buffer layer. We developed a new style hairpin type filter by using interdigitide innerpole. Compared to the saute size regular hairpin type filters, our filter had a lower center frequency, bandwidth and loss by an amount of 14.5%, 29.6%, 0.5488dB, respectively. The size of the filters were 13.7${\times}$3.3mm. We did simulations on the several types of band pass filters by using HFSS and serenade. We measured growth rate and Tc of YBCO films grown on CeO$_2$/ ${\alpha}$-A1$_2O_3$ substrates which were rotated while growing films.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated High-Tc Superconducting (HTS) microstrip bandpass filters using Stepped Impedance Resonators(SIR) and studied on their characteristics. The $high-T_c$ superconducting $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ epitaxial films were deposited by Pulse Laser Deposition (PLD) system on MgO. The fabricated filters were designed so as to operate in Ku band with central frequency 17.25 GHz, bandwidth 2.896% and ripple 0.01 dB. These filters were composed of parallel coupled microstrip SIR of which impedance ratio (K) are 0.5, 1.5. In the measured response, HTS filters had showed insertion loss below -0.5 dB. For comparison with normal conducting filter, we fabricated the Au counterpart that consists of the resonators as K=1.5 in the same dimension and measured performance of the Au filter. In comparison, HTS filter designed optimally got superior response to gold conterpart.

  • In this thesis, a narrowband bandpass filter using HTS is proposed for the multiplexer of the satellite communication subsystems. The proposed structure using HTS provides the narrower band and the lower insertion loss characteristics than the conventional parallel-coupled-line bandpass filter. The filter structure using hairpin-line only cause the spurious modes due to the surface waves. But these modes can be lessened by using the hybrid hairpin-line/parallel-coupled-line proposed in this thesis. The narrowband bandpass filters using HTS at the operation frequency of 14.25 GHz are fabricated to have the narrow bandwidth less 1% and the insertion loss less 3dB in comparison with the normal metal microstrip filter with the same three poles. The experimental results show that the filter using HTS has the characteristics of the narrower bandwidth and less insertion loss and can be fabricated with more compact size in comparison with the bandpass filter using normal metal.

  • This paper described design and simulation of the high-Tc superconducting (HTS) microstrip bandpass filter (BPF) on MgO substrate using $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ films that show superconductivity ${at \fallingdotseq}90$ K. Design parameters for the characteristic of the bandpass filter in Ku-band were obtained by approximate design formulas. It used parallel coupled stripline stepped impedance resonators (SIR). Microwave design system, MDS(EEsorf S/W) was used to derive the optimal pattern of the filters and to simulate frequency response. In computer-aided results, optimally designed HTS filters got good performance compared with the gold counter-parts on frequency response $S_{21}$, $S_{11}$.

  • This paper presents a novel HTS microstrip pseudo-lumped element resonator for the compact and simple filter design. A 7-pole bandpass filter with quasi-elliptic response is designed and fabricated using non-adjacent couplings between resonators. A seven-pole quasi-elliptic filter is fabricated using double sided YBCO on a LaAlO$_3$ substrate with thickness of 0.5 mm and dielectric constant of 23.5. The filter has an insertion loss of 0.8 dB at 20K, a bandwidth of 8 MHz at the center frequency of 1774 MHz, and an attenuation of 33 dB for the cut-off-band of 1 MHz.

  • In order to enhance satellite communication system performance, filters are required with the characteristics of sharp skirt, low insertion loss, and high power handling capability. But the performance of microwave passive filters is significantly declined by the conduction losses, especially in case of planar structures using film conductors. By using high temperature superconducting(HTS) film material as the conductor, higher performance could be expected. We have designed and developed narrow bandpass filters using haripin-type superconducting microstrip line for satellite communication. High quality superconducting YBCO thin films have been grown on MgO substrates by pulsed laser deposition(PLD) The deposited YBCO films were patterned by conventional wet-etching process. The transition temperatures of these films had shown 86 - 89 K. The film thicknesses were about 500 nm. Experimental results are presented for the insertion loss and return loss of the filter at 60 K.

  • In the favor of adjusting microwave signal, Hairpin type Filter, which delay microwave signal enough to several nanosecond, is a key component. One of the main advantage in using Hairpin type Filter is a conveniency for equipping with Delay Module, and because of having a wide bandwidth, Hairpin type Filter can be designed to satisfy the most applications. In this work, we attempted to estimate the delay time in a superconductive hairpin type filter A software to synthesize even and odd order equiripple hairpin type filter has been developed. This software arbitrarily locate its transfer zeros making symmetric of asymmetric amplitude response and equalizing group delay. Borland C++ compiler has been used. The program was designed to run under MS-DOS, Window 98, Window 2000. The program optimizes the position of the transfer function zeros in order to fulfill the group delay specification masks. We designed and fabricated a hairpin type HTS 2-pole microstrip bandpass filter to operate at 5.8Ghz. The fabrication method was pulsed laser deposition and YBCO films were deposited on sapphire substrates with a Ce$O_{2}$ thin layer as a buffer layer. We also developed a new style hairpin type filter by using interdigitide inner-pole. Compared to the same size regular hairpin type filters, our filters had a lower center frequency.
