Due to the large number of railway bridges along China's high-speed railway (HSR) lines, which cover a wide area with many lines crossing the seismic zone, the possibility of a HSR train running over a bridge when an earthquake occurs is relatively high. Since the safety performance of the train will be threatened, it is necessary to study the safety of trains running over HSR bridges during earthquakes. However, ground motion (GM) is highly random and selecting the appropriate ground-motion intensity measures (IMs) for train running safety analysis is not trivial. To deal this problem, a model of a coupled train-bridge system under seismic excitation was established and 104 GM samples were selected to evaluate the correlation between 16 different IMs and train running safety over HSR bridges during earthquakes. The results show that spectral velocity (SvT1) and displacement (SdT1) at the fundamental period of the structure have good correlation with train running safety for medium-and long-period HSR bridges, and velocity spectrum intensity (VSI) and Housner intensity (HI) have good correlation for a wide range of structural periods. Overall, VSI and HI are the optimal IMs for safety analysis of trains running over HSR bridges during earthquakes. Finally, based on VSI and HI, the IM thresholds of an HSR bridge at different speed were analyzed.
The development of high-speed rail (HSR) has had a major impact on the power supply grid. Based on the monitored waveforms of HSR, a pattern recognition approach is proposed for the first time in this paper to identify the operating conditions. To reduce the data dimensions for monitored waveforms, the principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm was used to extract the characteristics and their waveforms from the monitored waveforms data. The dynamic time wrapping (DTW) algorithm was then used to identify the operating conditions of the HSR. Cases studies show that the proposed approach is effective and feasible, and that it is possible to identify the real-time operating conditions based on the monitored waveforms.
As one type of power quality (PQ) disturbance sources, high-speed rail (HSR) can have major impacts on the power supply grid. Providing timely and accurate warning information for PQ problems of HSR is important for the safe and stable operation of traction power supply systems and the power supply grid. This study proposes a novel warning approach to identify PQ problems and provide warning prompts based on the monitored data of HSR. To embody the displacement and status change of monitored data, multi-features of different sliding windows are computed. To reflect the relative importance degree of these features in the overall evaluation, an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used to analyse the weights of multi-features. Finally, a multi-features similarity algorithm is applied to analyse the difference between monitored data and the reference data of HSR, and PQ warning results based on dynamic thresholds can be analysed to quantify its severity. Cases studies demonstrate that the proposed approach is effective and feasible, and it has now been applied to an actual PQ monitoring platform.
Starting her business operation on January 5 2007, Taiwan High Speed Rail(THSR) shapes a new time-space frame for Taiwan western corridor, where more than 90% of national population lives around and more than 95% gross domestic product created from. Comparing with the four-hour traveling time by highway before 2007, THSR reduces the time required to one and half hours from Taipei to Kaohsiung. It will not only benefit the communication along the island from north to south, but also change the location advantages/disadvantages for all cities in these regions. Therefore, this paper establishes a spatial computable general equilibrium model(SCGE Model) to simulate the economic effect of High Speed Rail(HSR). This SCGE model divides Taiwan economy into fifteen geographic regions and thirteen industries. Each region has three sectors: household sector, transportation sector, and industries sector. Following the behavior function of economic theories, the general equilibrium can be achieved simultaneously. Thus, gross regional product (GRP), capital formation, employment income and welfare/utility level can be all observed by calculating the different economic result between cases with-/ without-HSR. Besides, this model presents the social welfare benefit from HSR operation, the polarization phenomenon among regions and within certain region, unbalance distribution of welfare along the HSR line, and industries development divergence among regions etc. These major findings should be useful for regional development policy making.
The Korean high-speed rail (HSR) began its commercial service in 2004. This service has been created significant changes in the system of intercity passenger travels of Korea. However, the actual ridership was approximately half of the estimated one in the planning stage. In this background, this paper presents the difference between the stated preference (SP) before the HSR service and the revealed preference (RP) after it using the intercity travel mode choice models. Several meaningful differences are found in terms of the factors affecting the travel mode choice, the estimation results of model, the monetary values of time, and elasticities. While the access/egress travel time of high-speed rail is less important than in-vehicle travel time in the SP sample, they have same weight in the RP sample. Also the RP models show that the probability of choosing HSR can be decreased by the increase of the number of vehicles in household contrary to the results from the SP models. The monetary values of travel time are relatively high and the direct and cross elasticities in response to changes in level-of-service of HSR are relatively low in the RP sample. This Korean case is expected to offer referable material for preparing high-speed rail services in other countries by showing the difference between the SP and RP before/after the actual service, identifying the importance of access/egress travel time and lower direct elasticities of HSR demand.

High-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) is a protocol for fault-tolerant Ethernet (FTE) networks. It provides two frame copies and each copy is forwarded on a separate physical path, which provides zero fail-over time. Therefore, the HSR is becoming a potential candidate for various real-time FTE applications. However, the generation and circulation of unnecessary frames due to the duplication of every sending frame is inherent drawback of HSR. Such drawback degrades the performance of the network and may deplete its resources. In this paper, we present a new algorithm called port locking (PL) based on the media access control (MAC) address to solve the abovementioned problem in popular connected-rings network. Our approach makes the network gradually learn the locations of the source and the destination nodes without relying on network control frames. It then prunes all the rings that do not contain the destination node by locking corresponding rings' entrance ports. With the PL algorithm, the traffic can be significantly reduced and therefore the network performance will be greatly enhanced specially in a large scale connected-rings network. Analytical results are provided to validate the PL algorithm.
Agents that activate or inhibit the $Ca^{2+}$ release channel in cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) were tested for their abilities to affect the activity of the SR $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase. Vesicles of junctional SR (heavy SR, HSR) from terminal cisternae were prepared from porcine cardiac muscle by density gradient centrifugation. The steady-state activity of $Ca^{2+}$-ATPases in intact HSR vesicles was/$347{\pm}5\;nmol/min{\cdot}mg$ protein (${\pm}$ SD). When the HSR vesicles were made leaky, the activity was increased to $415{\pm}5\;nmol/min{\cdot}mg$ protein. This increase is probably due to the uncoupling of HSR vesicles. Caffeine (10 mM), an agonist of the SR $Ca^{2+}$ release channel, increased $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase activity in the intact HSR vesicle preparation to $394{\pm}30\;nmol/min{\cdot}mg$ protein. However, caffeine had no significant effect in the leaky vesicle preparation and in the purified $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase preparation. The effect of caffeine on SR $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase was investigated at various concentrations of $Ca^{2+}$. Caffeine increased the pump activity over the whole range of $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations, from $1\;{\mu}M$ to $250\;{\mu}M$, in the intact HSR vesicles. When the SR $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase was inhibited by thapsigargin, no caffeine effect was observed. These results imply that the caffeine effect requires the intact vesicles and that the increase in $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase activity is not due to a direct interaction of caffeine with the enzyme. We propose that the activity of SR $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase is linked indirectly to the activity of the $Ca^{2+}$ release channel (ryanodine receptor) and may depend upon the amount of $Ca^{2+}$ released by the channels.
The subsystems of HSR train control system in each country has developed and operated till early 2000, however 2001/16/EC ERTMS is issued for inter-operability among European train control systems in 2001. So it is trend that ERTMS/ETCS has been applied to not only low-speed train system but high-speed train system over 300km/h in many countries of Europe. According to the government policies of the Honam HSR, metropolitan HSR and test lines, incoming on-board signal control system has been required caused by speed limit to 160km/h on the ground signal system. As ETCS-Level 1 system has applied in our railways from 2003, so our train control system has depended on foreign technologies. In this paper, we analyzed to localize train control system for being ready to protect foreign policies and obtaining core technologies of HSR train control system for instance ETCS-Level2.
KTX has started commercial service from Seoul to Busan and Mokpo since April 1, 2004. The service line is composed of new-high speed line and conventional line. Before KTX is runs, the maximum operational speed on conventional line was 140km/h. In order to reduce the traveling time, operation speed of KTX must be increased on the conventional line. So, we performed test running with prototype HSR-350x and verification of safety was made in $10\%$ speed-up. Korean High Speed Train HSR-350x) was developed by G7 - R&D project. In this study, in safety aspect, several technical reviews are introduced and the possibility for reduction of traveling time is investigated on the conventional line by using HSR-350x.
New Opening of Suseo-Pyeongteak High Speed Railway (HSR) will be a new leap in the Korean railway history. However if this section of HSR line around Seoul Metropolitan Area opens, the confluence of new HSR and existing HSR line in Pyeongteak-Osong section will cause a bottle neck problem. In other words, the opening of Suseo-Pyeongteak HSR line will make the capacity of track reach the limit and the section of railroad between Pyeongteak and Osong will be saturated. This will also make such troubles as restricting the number of train which stops at Cheonan-Asan station. In this study, based on the train assignment theory of TVM430 signal system, the methods of calculating headway and number of train are reviewed and the plan for application of optimal operation pattern during peak hour between Pyeongteak-Osong section is also suggested. To remove the bottle neck problem in this HSR section, 3 alternatives are suggested and the expected effects and problems of each alternative are also analyzed. The results show that the troubles caused by excess of track capacity can be removed without any additional cost if the minimum headway in operating system for HSR is adopted in this section. In the future, if these alternatives are considered to the long-term plan for operating train and signal systems, this will improve the efficiency of train operation, which can remove the bottle neck in the HSR line.
