This study was aimed to elucidate the changes in heart rate variability during treadmill exercise at various speeds and grades by spectral analysis. Thirty-three untrained male college students aged $20{\sim}26\;yr $were employed to exercise on a treadmill using 4 speeds (4.02, 5.47, 6.76 and 8.05 km/h) and 6 grades (0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20%). A fixed speed was selected for each session with the grade increased every 3 min. The electrocardiogram, respiration and the stepping activity were continuously recorded through an A/D converter system on the computer disk. Power spectra of heart rate variability (RRV) were obtained by use of a fast Fourier transform algorithm. The frequency domain was divided into 3 bands: $VLF\;(0{\sim}0.04\;Hz),\;LF\;(0.04 {\sim}0.15\;Hz)\;and\;HF\;(0.15{\sim}1.00\;Hz).$ Heart rate was $74.4{\pm}2.1\;beats/min$ at rest and showed a steady increase during treadmill exercise with increasing speed and grade up to $196.7{\pm}5.0\;beats/min.$ Total power of HRV was $35.0{\pm}6.7\;(beats/min)^{2}$ at rest and progressively decreased during exercise down to $1.9{\pm}0.3\;(beats/min)^{2}.$ The %VLF power of HRV was $34.5{\pm}3.7\; %$ at rest and showed no significant change during exercise except for a decrease observed at the highest intensity of exercise. The %LF power was $44.1{\pm}3.0\;%$ at rest and showed a progressive decrease down to $4.5{\pm}1.0\;%$ during those stages of exercise where heart rate was over 135 beats/min. The %HF power was $21.4{\pm}2.9\;%$ at rest and showed a progressive increase up to $87.1{\pm}6.7\;%$ during higher intensity exercise where heart rate was over 165 beats/min. Peak frequency of HF band was $0.200{\pm}0.018\;Hz$ at rest and was shifted to higher frequencies up to $0.909{\pm}0.048\;Hz$ at heart rates greater than 135 beats/min. Respiratory frequency was $18.0{\pm}1.5$ breaths/min at rest and significantly increased during exercise up to $53.0{\pm}3.7$ breaths/min. Stride frequency during treadmill exercise showed an increasing tendency with increasing speed from $55.6{\pm}0.9$ steps/min at 4.02 km/h to $81.2{\pm}0.6$ at 8.05 km/h. It was concluded that total power of HRV decreased progressively with increasing exercise intensity due to the withdrawal of parasympathetic activity. At higher exercise intensity, % LF power decreased and %HF power increased with its peak frequency shifted to higher values in a progressive mode with increasing speed and grade, reflecting a readjustment in the cardiovascular system and the increased respiration and its rate, respectively.
Objectives To investigate the relationship between Heart Rate Variability and menopause among obese middle-aged women in Korea. Subjects and Methods Forty middle-aged women (age 49.05 $\pm$ 2.64 years) with BMI > $23kg/m^2$ were recruited by local advertisement. Blood profiles of estrogen, FSH, LH, glucose, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, and triglyceride were measured. Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) was estimated by short-term spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV). Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) were accessed using Computerized Tomography (CT), Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA), and anthropometry. To scrutinize the influence of ANS on obesity-related factors, we divided the subjects into pre- and post-menopausal women. Results The total cholesterol, FSH and LH were significantly higher in post-menopausal obese women group. The estradiol and standard deviation of all normal R-R intervals (SDNN), high-frequency components (HF) of the HRV were significantly lower in postmenopausal obese women group (P<0.05). Adipose tissue distribution and blood profiles were not significantly different between two groups. Conclusion Menopause induced a decrease in SDNN and HF values and increase in total cholesterol level in obese women although the VAT itself was not related with ANS in obese women.
The wireless electrocardiographic monitoring system(WDMS) is designed to be long term monitoring for the early detection of cardiac disorders. The current version of the WDMS can identify two types of cardiac rhythms in real-time, such as atrial fibrillation(AF) and normal sinus rhythm(NSR), which are very important to track cardiac-rhythm disorders. In this study, we proposed the analysis method to discriminate the characteristics statistically evaluated in both time and frequency domains between AF and NSR using various parameters in the heart rate variability(HRV). And we applied various ECG detection methods (e.g., difference operation method) and compared the results with those of the discrete wavelet transform(DWT) method. From the statistically results, we found that the parameters such as STD RR, STD HR, RMSSD, NN50, pNN50, RR Trian, and TNN(p<0.05) are significantly different between the AF and NSR patients in time domain. On the other hand, the frequency domain analysis results showed a significant difference in VLF power($ms^2$), LF power($ms^2$), HF power($ms^2$), VLF(%), LF(%), and HF(%). In particular, the parameters such as STD RR, RMSSD, NN50, pNN50, VLF power, LF power and HF power were considered as the most useful parameters in both AF and NSR patient groups. Our proposed method can be efficiently applied to early detection of abnormal conditions and prevent the such abnormals from becoming serious.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between the biological base of coping strategy and the different constitutions. First of all, subjects were divided in to 3 groups dy Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II and Yin-Yang Property Analysis. Then each group was assigned into two experimental coping conditions, active and passive condition, in turn. The SDNN(The Standard Deviation of the NN Intervals) of HRV(Heart rate variability) index was estimated from two conditions after giving a aversive pain stimulus. The results of the study were as follows 1. The interaction between constitution and coping condition is significant(p<0.05). 2. The SDNNs of Shaoyangren are higher than those of Taiyinren under passive condition but it was opposite under active condition(p<0.05). 3. The main effect of constitution is also significant but that of coping condition is not significant. 4. Thee Shaoyangren is higher than Shaoyinren in multiple comparisons(p<0.05). 5. The interaction between Yin-Yang constitution and coping condition is significant and the main effect of only constitution is significant(p<0.05). According to these results, different constitution can respond differently to coping condition and It is highly related to biological mechanism associated with two basic coping strategies.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors affecting weight loss effect of Gamitaeumjowee-tang and to see if weight loss could be predicted using influence factors and weight loss progress. Methods: From September 2016 to March 2017, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 139 patients who were visited to the Korean Oriental Clinic for 3 months. We conducted a regression analysis to determine whether age, gender, initial weight, patient health questionnaire-9, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep quality, drinking habit and the medication history of weight loss affect weight loss. We found weight loss prediction equations using multiple regression analysis applying significant factors and weight loss progress. Results: Gender and initial weight had a significant effect on weight loss in all periods (P<0.001). HRV had a significant effect on primary weight loss (P<0.01). Other factors did not have any significant effect on weight loss. Using the significant factors, weight loss of each period could be predicted from 23.9% to 44.6%, and tertiary weight loss could be predicted with 76.6% using factors, primary weight loss and secondary weight loss (P<0.001). Conclusions: This study suggests that weight loss effect of Gamitaeumjowee-tang maybe be affected by influence factors and that weight loss prediction equations using them can be used for obesity treatment.
In this paper, the autonomic function analysis system was designed to noninvasively assess the autonomic function of cardiovascular system. Orthostatic stress protocol was designed to stimulate the autonomic nervous system. designed protocol and analysis algorithm were evaluated by experiments for 25 normal subjects and 22 hemiplegia patients. Data were processed by usign the power spectral analysis. Nwe indexes of autonomic function, LF$_{N}$ and HF$_{N}$, were proposed and were compared with LF/HF ratio. New indexes of the sympathetic and parasympathetic activity, respectively. The IST and the DPT are balanced and have positive value for normal subjects during orthostatic stress but not for hempilegia patients. This result suggest that the IST and the DPT are used as new criteria of normal autonomic function during orthostatic stress.ess.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the autonomic nervous system activity in various ambient temperatures. To evaluate autonomic function, we use the frequency domain analysis of heart rate variability such as FFT(fast fourier transformation), AR(Auto-Regressive) model and Lomb-Scargle peridogram. HRV(heart rate variability) is calculated by using ECG recorded from 3 different temperature room which temperature is controlled in 18℃(low), 25℃(mid) and 38℃(high), respectively. Totally 22 subjects were participated in the experiment. In the results, the most significant autonomic changes caused by temperature load were found in the HF(high frequency) component of FFT and AR model. And the HF power is decreased by increasing temperature. Significance level was increased by increasing the difference of temperatures.
Twenty nine HRV models have been tested for last two years since the attestation system has been started by KARSE. It is the objective of the present study to analyze the performance test results. Uncertainty analysis has been conducted to find the effects of measured variables on the uncertainties of test results. The uncertainty of enthalpy is found to be affected by the uncertainty of wet bulb temperature significantly, but not by that of dry bulb temperature for the present range of parameters. The uncertainty of effective enthalpy efficiency is calculated to be 6%P for the cooling condition, and 3%P for the heating condition approximately. In order to reduce the uncertainty of the test results, the uncertainty of wet bulb temperature should be minimized and the indoor/outdoor test conditions should be modified so as to increase the enthalpy difference.
