The behavior of continuous flow culture of Lartobacillus bulgricus was investigated by application of Monod's kinetic model. The parameters obtained from Monod's chemostat theory successfully predicted the behavior of the chemostat. Then, it was found that Monod's kinetics were applicable to the growth rate dependence on glucose concentration. Under steady-state condition, the maximum growth rate, saturation constant, and wash out were found to be 0.62/hr, 7.69 g/1, 0.51/hr of continuous culture. And the optimum condition for the highest cell production was 0.41/hr in dilution rate, and at that point the cell production rate was 0.178g/1 hr.

This study was conducted to evaluate workplace protection factors(WPF) for two half-facepiece respirators (HR-1, HR-2) in welding workplace and to provide data on the workplace performance of negative-pressure, half-facepiece respirators against airborne particulate contaminants. The outside iron oxide(Fe2O3) concentration of welding fume for the respirator HR-1 ranged from 0.177 to $12.508mg/m^3$ with a geometric mean of $1.118mg/m^3$ and the HR-2 respirator showed a iron oxide range of 0.500 to $3.494mg/m^3$ with a geometric mean of $1.082mg/m^3$. But the inside oxide concentration of welding fume for the respirator HR-1 ranged from 0.002 to $0.364mg/m^3$ with a geometric mean of $0.019mg/m^3$ and the HR-2 respirator showed a iron oxide range of 0.012 to $0.639mg/m^3$ with a geometric mean of $0.041mg/m^3$. The iron oxide inside concentrations were significantly less than $5mg/m^3$(TLV) for both of respirators. The WPF were ranged from 3 to 3744 with a geometric mean of 60 for HR-1 and range from 2 to 129 a geometric mean of 26 for HR-2. And, in this study, the 5th percentile of the workplace protection factors for half-facepiece aspirators (HR-1, HR-2) were 11.2 and 7.1, respectively. The correlation relationship between the Quantative Fit Factors(QNFT) and the WPF for half-mask negative pressure respirators were 0.099 and 0.460.
This study attempts to propose ways to optimize and improve the period of hospitalization for the radioiodine treatment by calculating the dose rate of patients treated with high-dose radioiodine by distance and time slot. As a result, 24 hours after the patient was treated with 100 mCi high-dose iodine, the dose rate was attenuated to $1,035{\mu}Sv/hr$ at the navel, to $109{\mu}Sv/hr$ at 50 cm, and to $33{\mu}Sv/hr$ at 100 cm. 24 hours after the patient was treated with 150 mCi high-dose iodine, the dose rate was attenuated to $637{\mu}Sv/hr$ at the navel, to $100{\mu}Sv/hr$ at 50 cm, and to $40{\mu}Sv/hr$ at 100 cm. 24 hours after the patient was treated with 180 mCi high-dose iodine, the dose rate was attenuated to $1,251{\mu}Sv/hr$ at the navel, $140{\mu}Sv/hr$ at 50 cm, and to $56{\mu}Sv/hr$ at 100 cm. In light of the current criterion for discharge recommended by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission being $70.4{\mu}Sv/hr$, the present study indicates earlier discharge is feasible by applying a new scheme. This suggests that the proposed scheme in this study will help to solve the problem of shortage of treatment beds with the increasing trend of patients with thyroid cancer taken into consideration.

This study was performed to examine 1) Whether hypothermic cardiac arrest produces myocardial HSP72 expression; 2) And if, whether it serves to protect the heart against the subsequent hypothermic arrest. In the present study, neonatal rats were placed in an icebath to induce hypothermia. To determine whether hypothermic cardiac arrest produces myocardial HSP72, experimental animals were subjected to 10-min hypothermic insult before the extraction of the heart. The intervals between the insult and extraction were 1 (1 HR), 4 (4 HR), 8 (8 HR), 24 (24 HR) or 72 (72HR) hours. A minimal amount of HSP72 was detected in control, 1 HR and 72 HR groups. In contrast, 8 HR and 24 HR groups showed a significant level of HSP72 expressions. To assess the cardioprotective effect of HSP72 against hypothermic cardiac arrest, we compared the proportion of recovery from the arrest between control and preconditioned (PREC) animals. Control animals were subjected to 20-min hypothermic insult, while PREC group was preconditioned by 10-min hypothermic insult 8 hours before the 20-min test hypothermic insult. Resuscitation rate from cardiac arrest induced by the 20-min hypothermic insult in PREC group was significantly higher than that in controls. These results suggest that the cardioprotective effect of hypothermic preconditioning is associated with an increase in HSP72 expression.
An intravenous pharmacokinetics for a new red cell substitute, PEG-hemoglobin SB1, was studied in SD rats. Total-hemoglobin and its metabolite methemoglobin in the plasma were determined using a spectrophotometer. The limit of quantitation was 0.01g/dL and the C.V for interday assay reproducibility was less than 6%. Upon intravenous administration of anticipated clinical dose, 10 ml(0.7 gHb)/kg, plasma concentration curve of total-hemoglobin was well described by one-compartment model. The $t_{\frac{1}{2}},{\;}CL_{t}$, Vd and $AUC^{0-48hr}$ were $8.23{\pm}0.96{\;}hr,{\;}0.06{\;}{\pm}{\;}0.01 {\;}dL/hr/kg,{\;}0.66{\pm}0.05{\;}dL/lg{\;}and{\;}13.6{\;}{\pm}{\;}1.01g{\cdot}hr/dL$, respectively, in male rats(n=5, $mean{\;}{\pm}{\;}SD$). Those parameters in female rats were $9.21{\;}\pm{\;}2.31{\;}hr,{\;}0.06{\;}{\pm}{\;}0.01{\;}dL/hr/kg,{\;}0.79{\pm}{\;}0.08{\;}dL/kg{\;}and{\;}13.0{\;}{\pm}{\;}2.36{\;}g{\cdot}hr/dL$, respectively. Similar kinetic profiles between males and females were also obtained from other parameters. Small amount of methemoglobin, an oxidative metabolite of SB1, was detected in the plasma of both sexes, where the $AUC^{0-48{\;}hr,m}$ and $t_{{\frac{1}{2}},m}$ were approximately $1.5{\;}g{\cdot}hr/dL$ and 20 hr, respectively. The present work provides a critical kinetic data for the effective clinical applications of PEG-hemoglobin SB1.
Zerovalent iron (ZVI) has been widely used in the removal of environmental contaminants from water. The objective of this research was to assess the efficiency of ZVI for immobilization of As (V) in the contaminated water under various chemical conditions. Batch-type experiments showed that the immobilization process followed a first-order kinetic model. Rate constant (k) of the reaction increased consistently and proportionally as increasing ZVI concentrations from 1% (0.158 $hr^{-1}$) to 3% (0.342 $hr^{-1}$), and temperatures from $15^{\circ}C$ (0.117 $hr^{-1}$) to $35^{\circ}C$ (0.246 $hr^{-1}$), respectively. Whereas the rate constant decreased as increasing As (V) concentrations from 1 mg $\Gamma^{-1}$ (0.284 $hr^{-1}$) to 3 mg $\Gamma^{-1}$ (0.153 $hr^{-1}$), and the initial pH from 3 (0.393 $hr^{-1}$) to 9 (0.067 $hr^{-1}$), respectively. Results demonstrated that As (V) in an aqueous solution was rapidly immobilized by ZVI treatments. Zerovalent iron was fast method for remediation of As (V) contaminated water.

The content of total lipid, cholesterol and fatty acid in Korean styled various beef broths was examined before and during toiling to determine the influence of cooking time. The values obtained from the broths of brisket, ox-tail and small-intestine were determined by using G. C. The highest total lipid value among small-intestine, brisket and ok-tail was in the small-intestine. The content of total lipid in the boiled meat decreased during cooking with the exception of the brisket. Total lipid content found in the broth of brisket meat increased until 6hr and thell decreased at cooking time of 8hr and 10 hr. The highest total lipid contents in the broths of brisket, ox-tail and small-intestine were found when the cooking time were 6 hr, 10 hr and 4 hr, respectively. The main fatty acids found in the broths of brisket, ok-tail and small-intestine were $C_{14}$, $C_{16}$, $C_{18}$, $C_{18:1}$, and $C_{18:1}$. The content of $C_{18:1}$ and $C_{18:2}$ from the brisket meat increased until 4hr's cooking, especially $C_{18:2}$ increased significantly until 6 hr cooking. The highest ratios of unsaturated to saturated fatty acid (UNS/S) in the meat of brisket and ox-tail were found in the 2hr and 4hr cooking, respectively. The ratios of UNS/S in the broths of both of brisket and small-intestine, and ok-tail were highest in the 4 hr and 2 hr cooking, respectively. The content of total cholesterol (TC) was the highest in the small-intestine and the highest percentage of ester cholesterol was 5.4 in the brisket. The content of TC in small-intestine, brisket and ox-tail was decreased significantly after 2 hr cooking. Precentage of the ester in the brisket was the highest when the cooking time was 8 hr. Only trace amount of total cholesterol was found in the broth.
Treatment of malformin A1 is known to increase ethylene production 130% at 4 hr and 56% at 8 hr after treatment in maize root compared to untreated plants. The ethylene production by malformin A1 was maximum level at 4 hr and slowly decreased up to 8 hr. Calcium ion regulators such as A23187 (calcium ionophore) and verapamil (calcium channel blocker) stimulated ethylene production. Treatment of both calcium ion regulators increased about 30% of ethylene production at 4 hr, and 20% at 8 hr. Both calcium ion regulators did not stimulate malformin A1-induced ethylene production at 4 hr as malformin A1 itself did. However, the treatment of calcium ion regulators with malformin A1 maintains the ethylene production for 8 hr. These results suggested that the proper concentration of calcium might need to confer the effect of malformin A1 on the ethylene production. Malformin A1 suppressed the gravitropic curvature of maize root about 58% at 4 hr and 42% at 8 hr compared to control plant. Verapamil inhibited the gravitropic curvature about 54% at 4 hr and 23% at 8 hr compared to control, respectively. But A23187 could not. In addition, verapamil showed more inhibition in malformin A1-induced gravitropic curvature than A23187 in malformin A1 induced. These data suggested that calcium ion regulators affect the malformin A1-induced ethylene production and gravitropic curvature, and give the evidence that calcium ion play an important role in gravitropic curvature in maize root.
Using Megabalanus rosa a sessile filterfeeder, its scope for growth (SFG) by analysis of energy budget were examined and free amino acids composition of whole body tissue were analyzed under the exposure to different concentrations of Hg Cu and Cd. The $96\;hr-LC_{50}$ of the barnacle after 96 hr exposure to Hg, Cu, and Cd were 0.220, 0.269 and $1.380\;mgL^{-1}$, respectively. Hg and Cu showed stronger toxicity than Cd, while Hg and Cu had similar influence on the survival of the barnacle. SFG of the barnacles exposed to sublethal concentrations of mercury was 18.936 $Jgdrywt.^{-1}hr^{-1}$ in control group and as increase of mercury concentration the SFG remarkably reduced to 0.041 $Jgdrywt.^{-1}hr^{-1}\;at\;0.1\;mgL^{-1}$ concentration of Hg. In the case of Cu, the SFG was 29.841 $Jgdrywt.^{-1}hr^{-1}$ in control group and as increase of concentration, the SFG remarkably reduced to -8.304 $Jgdrywt.^{-1}hr^{-1}\;at\;0.1\;mgL^{-1}$ concentration. In Cd the SFG was 15.852 $Jgdrywt.^{-1}hr^{-1}$ in control group, and as increasing concentration, the SFG remarkably reduced to -19.490 $Jgdrywt.^{-1}hr^{-1}\;at\;0.1\;mgL^{-1}.$ Content of free amino acid (FAA) of whole body tissue of the barnacle was 45084 $mgkg^{-1}$ in control group, but it was reduced remarkably to 28,130, 37,500 and 37,106 $mgkg^{-1}$ at 0.1 $mgL^{-1}$ concentration of Hg and Cu, and 0.4 $mgL^{-1}$of Cd, respectively. Sum of threonine + serine was 1,334 $mgkg^{-1}$ if control but reduced remarkably to 1,223, 849 and 888 $mgkg^{-1}$ at 0.1 $mgL^{-1}$ of Hg and Cu, and 0.4 $mgL^{-1}$ of Cd, respectively.
