A ship cruising in the ocean oscillates continuously due to wave action. In order to reduce the ship's roll, we developed a fin stabilizer as an anti-rolling device for a 500-ton-class high-speed marine vessel. During the development phase, it was necessary to set up control gains for the motion and hydraulic systems and assess the effectiveness of the anti-rolling performance on the ground. For this reason, a Target Simulator, which simulated the ship's motion, was given operator inputs such as the engine telegraph and waterjet deflection angle, and generated roll using a one-degree-of-freedom motion base. Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation (HILS) was performed using the Target Simulator in order to confirm the various logics of the developed fin stabilizer, select initial control gains, and estimate the anti-rolling performance. In conclusion, it was confirmed that HILS was very helpful to develop the fin stabilizer because it could reduce the number of sea trial tests that were needed and could find many malfunctions in the factory a priori.

The automobile industry requires technological innovations to reduce fuel consumption with the public interest in environmental conservation in recent years. Thus, the hybrid system is applied not only to passenger cars but also commercial vehicles. The purpose of this paper is to develop engine ECU_ILS to develop commercial hybrid vehicles. In order to develop the engine and vehicle, the dynamometer and exhaust gas analyzer is needed. However, a lot of time and cost are required. In contrast, the model-based development environment that can be applied to a variety of test conditions can reduce development time. Therefore, a HILS system environment that can consider the behavior of actual vehicles for evaluation of the control logic, fuel consumption and exhaust gas is required. This engine ECU_ILS system was developed in this study, can analyze parameter such as the fuel injection rate, fuel injection time, fuel consumption and exhaust gas like the actual vehicle test using map data. Also, this system is expected to be able to analyze the characteristic of vehicle behavior and the development of peripheral device in relation to engine and vehicles. This HILS system can be used to develop control strategies of commercial hybrid vehicle systems in the future.
HILS (Hardware In the Loop System) 시스템을 구성하였다.
In this work, an inverse dynamic control method is developed to enhance tracking performance of industrial robots, which effectively deal with the nonlinear dynamic interferential forces. In general, the DFF (Dynamic Feed-Forward) controller and the CTM (Computed-Torque Method) controller are used for dynamic control for industrial robots. We study on the practical issues for implementing these inverse dynamic controllers via simulations and experiments. We develop the dynamic models in two different ways. One is a model designed through Newton-Euler method for real time computation and the other is a model designed through SimMechanics for evaluating the developed controller via simulations. We evaluate the nominal performance and robustness of the controller via simulations and experiments using serial 4-DOF HyRoHILS (Hyundai Robot Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation) system. The results show that the inverse dynamic controller is effective and practically useful for a real control structure.
A bi-modal tram has been developed to offer an advanced transportation service compared with existing vehicles. The All-Wheel-Steering system is applied to the bi-modal tram to satisfy the required steering performance because the bi-modal tram has extended length and articulated mechanism. An ECU for the steering system is essential to steer wheels on 2nd and 3rd axles by the specific AWS algorithm with the prescribed driving condition. The Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) system is planned for the purpose of evaluating the steering system of the bi-modal tram. There are kinematic links with the hydraulic actuator to steer wheels on each 2nd and 3rd axles and also same steering mechanism as the actual vehicle is in the HILS system. Controlling the movement of hydraulic actuator which reflects the lateral steering reaction force on each wheel is the key to realize the HILS system, but the reaction force is continuously changed according to various driving conditions. Therefore, the simulation through the multi-body dynamics model is used to obtain the required forces.

This paper presents vibration control performance of a passenger vehicle installed with the mixed-mode type ER engine mounts. The performance is evaluated via hardware-in-the-loop-simulation(HILS) method. As a first step, a dynamic model of a vehicle featuring the ER engine mounts is formulated by taking into account the engine excitation forces. A new type of the fuzzy skyhook controller is then established in order to control both engine and body vibrations. This is accomplished by adopting a weighting parameter between two performance criteria which is to be determined from the fuzzy algorithm. Vertical displacement and acceleration of the engine mount obtained from the HILS method are provided in the frequency domain. In addition, vibration control performance between the conventional hydraulic engine mount and the proposed engine mount is compared in the time and frequency domains.

During the past several years, the major interests of car manufacturers in development of automatic transmission were in durability and shift quality. However, a large number of researches for improving shift quality that are based on dynamic characteristics of shifting mechanism have been rarely adopted in the developing process because it is quite difficult to predict the shifting performance from the dynamics simulation. One of the important reasons for the difference between simulation results and experiments arises from the automatic transmission hydraulic system that consists of many valves with high order model and shows a lot different dynamics to temperature variation. In this work, hardware-in-the-loop simulation system for automatic transmission was developed f3r improving the accuracy of simulated result by combining the real-time simulation model with the real hydraulic system. The real-time simulation for automatic transmission model excluding hydraulic system is executed with TI's TMS320C31 DSP and the interfacing board which includes 12bit A/D, PWM signal generator and driver, serial driver ,etc is designed for acquiring the simulation data and signal interface with hydraulic system. We verified the proper operation and correctness of shifting result by comparing the off-line simulation result with that of HILS and experimental result which was performed on transmission dynamometer driven by electric motor.

Lane keeping assistant system (LKAS) could save thousands of lives each year by maintaining lane position and is regarded as a promising active safety system. The LKAS is expected to reduce the driver workload and to assist the driver during driving. This paper proposes a model based predictive controller for the LKAS which requires cooperative driving between the driver and the assistance system. A Hardware-In-the-Loop-Simulator (HILS) is constructed for its evaluation and includes Carsim, Matlab Simulink and a lane detection algorithm. The single camera is mounted with the HILS to acquire the monitor images and to detect the lane markers. The simulation is conducted to validate the LKAS control performance in various road scenario.

When operating a surveillance system in the maritime environment, its stabilization performance is degraded due to undesirable disturbance motions. For accurate target pointing of a 2-axes surveillance system on shipboard, the kinematic stabilization is first applied, which compensates a deviated motion via coordinate transformations of attitude information. Resultantly, the stabilization error is no longer reduced due to less accuracy of a MEMS sensor and kinematic constraint, leading to introduction of the image stabilization as a complementary function. And for real-time execution of the present dual stabilization scheme, a HILS (Hardware In the Loop Simulation) test bed including 6-dof motion simulator has been constructed, and through the obtained HILS data, it has been confirmed that the stabilization is successfully.

This paper presents the d-q axis equivalent circuit model of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) which includes the iron loss resistance. The model is implemented to be able to run in real-time on the FPGA-based HIL simulator. Power electronic devices are removed from the motor control unit (MCU) and a separated controller is interfaced with the real-time simulated motor drive through a set of proper inputs and outputs. The inputs signals of the HIL simulation are the gate driver signals generated from the controller, and the outputs are the winding currents and resolver signals. This paper especially presents iron loss prediction which is introduced by means of comparing the torque calculated from d-q axis currents and the desired torque; and minimizing the torque difference. This prediction method has stable prediction algorithm to reduce torque difference at specific speed and load. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods.
