  • This paper presents an Around View Monitoring (AVM) stop-line detection based longitudinal position correction algorithm for automated driving on urban roads. Poor positioning accuracy of low-cost GPS has many problems for precise path tracking. Therefore, this study aims to improve the longitudinal positioning accuracy of low-cost GPS. The algorithm has three main processes. The first process is a stop-line detection. In this process, the stop-line is detected using Hough Transform from the AVM camera. The second process is a map matching. In the map matching process, to find the corrected vehicle position, the detected line is matched to the stop-line of the HD map using the Iterative Closest Point (ICP) method. Third, longitudinal position of low-cost GPS is updated using a corrected vehicle position with Kalman Filter. The proposed algorithm is implemented in the Robot Operating System (ROS) environment and verified on the actual urban road driving data. Compared to low-cost GPS only, Test results show the longitudinal localization performance was improved.

  • A depth map is an image which contains 3D distance information. Generally, it is difficult to acquire a high resolution (HD), noise-removed, good quality depth map directly from the camera. Therefore, many researches have been focused on acquisition of the high resolution and the good quality depth map by up-sampling and pre/post image processing of the low resolution depth map. However, many researches are lack of effective up-sampling for the edge region which has huge impact on image perceptual-quality. In this paper, we propose an up-sampling method, based on joint bilateral filter, which improves up-sampling of the edge region and visual quality of synthetic images by adopting different weights for the edge parts that is sensitive to human perception characteristics. The proposed method has gains in terms of PSNR and subjective video quality compared to previous researches.

  • Many edge detection methods, based on horizontal and vertical derivatives, have been introduced to provide us with intuitive information about the horizontal distribution of a subsurface anomalous body. Understanding the characteristics of each edge detection method is important for selecting an optimized method. In order to compare the characteristics of the individual methods, this study applied each method to synthetic magnetic data created using homogeneous prisms with different sizes, the numbers of bodies, and spacings between them. Seven edge detection methods were comprehensively and quantitatively analyzed: the total horizontal derivative (HD), the vertical derivative (VD), the 3D analytic signal (AS), the title derivative (TD), the theta map (TM), the horizontal derivative of tilt angle (HTD), and the normalized total horizontal derivative (NHD). HD and VD showed average good performance for a single-body model, but failed to detect multiple bodies. AS traced the edge for a single-body model comparatively well, but it was unable to detect an angulated corner and multiple bodies at the same time. TD and TM performed well in delineating the edges of shallower and larger bodies, but they showed relatively poor performance for deeper and smaller bodies. In contrast, they had a significant advantage in detecting the edges of multiple bodies. HTD showed poor performance in tracing close bodies since it was sensitive to an interference effect. NHD showed great performance under an appropriate window.

  • Rice is a facultative short-day plant that flowers in response to reduced day lengths. This study was conducted to identify quantitative trait loci(QTL) for the early heading date(EHD) using H143 line showing extreme EHD compared to other regular cultivars in rice. The japonica H143 was crossed with a japonica cultivar 'Dongjinbyeo' as well as a tongil cultivar 'Milyang23' to measure the inheritance mode of EHD and identify major QTL conferring EHD, respectively. Pooling test revealed that segregation distortion occurred on chromosome 7 and subsequent linkage map was constructed using 10 SSR markers. QTL analysis using Q-gene 3.06 revealed that the EHD trait in H143 was largely controlled by two major QTL, EH7-1 and EH7-2, accounting for more than 40% of genetic variation that were closely related to the previously reported QTL, Hd4 and Hd2, respectively. This result suggests that these two QTL markers may be a useful source for the control of heading date in rice breeding programs.

  • A comprehensive mapping project for agroclimatic zoning in South Korea will end by April 2010, which has required 4 years, a billion won (ca. 0.9 million US dollars) and 22 experts from 7 institutions to complete it. The map database from this project may be categorized into primary, secondary and analytical products. The primary products are called "high definition" digital climate maps (HD-DCMs) and available through the state of the art techniques in geospatial climatology. For example, daily minimum temperature surfaces were prepared by combining the climatic normals (1971-2000 and 1981-2008) of synoptic observations with the simulated thermodynamic nature of cold air by using the raster GIS and microwave temperature profiling which can quantify effects of cold air drainage on local temperature. The spatial resolution of the gridded climate data is 30m for temperature and solar irradiance, and 270m for precipitation. The secondary products are climatic indices produced by statistical analysis of the primary products and includes extremes, sums, and probabilities of climatic events relevant to farming activities at a given grid cell. The analytical products were prepared by driving agronomic models with the HD-DCMs and dates of full bloom, the risk of freezing damage, and the fruit quality are among the examples. Because the spatial resolution of local climate information for agronomic practices exceeds the current weather service scale, HD-DCMs and the value-added products are expected to supplement the insufficient spatial resolution of official climatology. In this lecture, state of the art techniques embedded in the products, how to combine the techniques with the existing geospatial information, and agroclimatic zoning for major crops and fruits in South Korea will be provided.

  • As the micro-mobility market grows, the demand for route guidance, that includes uphill information as well, is increasing. Since the climbing angle depends on the electric motor uesed, it is necessary to establish an uphill road DB according to the threshold standard. Although road alignment information is a very important element in the basic information of the roads, there is no information currently on the longitudinal slope in the road digital map. The High Definition(HD) map which is being built as a preparation for the era of autonomous vehicles has the altitude value, unlike the existing standard node link system. However, the HD map is very insufficient because it has the altitude value only for some sections of the road network. This paper, hence, intends to propose a method to generate the road longitudinal slope using currently available data. We developed a method of computing the longitudinal slope by combining the digital elevation model and the standard link system. After creating an altitude at the road link point divided by 4m based on the Seoul road network, we calculated individual slope per unit distance of the road. After designating a representative slope for each road link, we have extracted the very steep road that cannot be climbed with personal mobility and the slippery roads that cannot be used during heavy snowfall. We additionally described errors in the altitude values due to surrounding terrain and the issues related to the slope calculation method. In the future, we expect that the road longitudinal slope information will be used as basic data that can be used for various convergence analyses.

  • Technology that cannot be excluded from 4th industry is self-driving sector. The self-driving sector can be seen as a key set of technologies in the fourth industry, especially in the DB sector is getting more and more popular as a business. The DB, which was previously produced and managed in two dimensions, is now evolving into three dimensions. Among the data obtained by Mobile Mapping System () to produce the HD MAP necessary for self-driving, Point Cloud, which is LiDAR data, is used as a DB because it contains accurate location information. However, at present, it is not widely used as a base data for 3D modeling in addition to HD MAP production. In this study, MMS Point Cloud was used to extract facilities around the road and to overlay the location to expand the usability of Point Cloud. Building utility poles and communication poles DB from Point Cloud and comparing road name address base and location, it is believed that the accuracy of the location of the facility DB extracted from Point Cloud is also higher than the basic road name address of the road, It is necessary to study the expansion of the facility field sufficiently.

  • GPR (Ground Penetrating RADAR) is a sensor that inspects the pavement state of roads, sinkholes, and underground pipes. It is widely used in road management. MMS (Mobile Mapping System) creates a detailed and accurate road map of the road surface and its surroundings. If both types of data are built in the same area, it is efficient to construct both ground and underground spatial information at the same time. In addition, since it is possible to grasp the road and important facilities around the road, the location of underground pipelines, etc. without special technology, an intuitive understanding of the site is also possible, which is a useful tool in managing the road or facilities. However, overseas equipment to which this latest technology is applied is expensive and does not fit the domestic situation. LiDAR (Light Detection And Raging) and GNSS/INS (Global Navigation Satellite System / Inertial Navigation System) were synchronized in order to replace overseas developed equipment and to secure original technology to develop domestic equipment in the future, and GPR data was also synchronized to the same GNSS/INS. We developed software that performs georeferencing using the location and attitude information from GNSS/INS at the time of acquiring synchronized GPR data. The experiments were conducted on the road site by dividing the open sky and the non-open sky. The road and surrounding facilities on the ground could be easily checked through the 3D point cloud data acquired through LiDAR. Georeferenced GPR data could also be viewed with a 3D viewer along with point cloud data, and the location of underground facilities could be easily and quickly confirmed through GPR data.

  • In this paper, we proposed the adaptive local sigma filter reducing noises generated by an image sensor. The small noises generated by the image sensor are amplified by increased an analog gain and an exposure time of the image sensor together with information. And the goal of this work was the system design that is reduce the these amplified noises. Edge data are extracted by Flatness Index Map algorithm. We made the threshold adaptively changeable by the luminance average in this algorithm that extracts the edge data not in high luminance, but just low luminance. The Local Sigma Filter performed only about the edge pixel that were extracted by Flatness Index Map algorithm. To verify the performance of the designed filter, we made the Window test program. The hardware was designed with HDL language. We verified the hardware performance of Local Sigma Filter system using FPGA Demonstration board and HD image sensor, $1280{\times}720$ image size and 30 frames per second.
