An efficient method of extraction for carotenoids in Rhodotorula glutinis KCTC 7989 was developed. Major carotenoids produced were identified as torularhodin of 61.7%, $\beta$-carotene of 28.8%, and torulene of 9.5%. HCI treatment, as a pretreatment on cell, was necessary to carry out together with thermal treatment unlike DMSO pretreatment. The choice of solvent had an important effect on the composition of carotenoids extracted: benzene and chloroform were effective for the extraction of torularhodin, especially. However, diethyl ether was most effective for the extraction of total carotenoids. Freeze dried type cells showed high efficiency value for the extraction of carotenoids, in compared with dried and wet type cells.

For a characterization of the pretreated waste automotive catalyst the following analysis techniques were applied : EA(Elemental Analysis) BET(Brunaure-Emmett-Teller) and ICP-AES(Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry). The combustion activity of waste automotive catalyst was investigated for methanol acetaldehyde and toluene as model VOCs in a fixed bed reactor. carbon deposit amount was decreased with increasing catalyst showed a good catalytic activity for VOCs combustion at 40$0^{\circ}C$. Catalytic activity for methanol acetaldehyde and toluence combustion was very excellent and decreased with mileage. The catalytic activity of a waste automotive catalyst for methanol combustion increased after acid treatment. The acid effect of catalytic activity was summarized as follows: HNO3>HCI>H2SO4>CH3COOH. The waste automotive catalyst regenerated by the pretreatment method might have a excellent catalytic activity for VOCs combustion.
This study was designed to investigate the effects of Garlic Jug A Jii, a popular processed food for Korean was given of HCI-ethanol in rats as experimental Model. Oral administration HCI-ethanol to fasted rats produced extensive necrosis in the gastric mucosa. Pretreatment with garlic juice and 3 week stored Garlic Jang A Jii juice prevented such necrosis and the effects were dose-dependent. The effects of garlic Jang A Jii juice comparing with raw garlic juice were reduced but statiscally significant differences were not found. 5 week-stored Garlic Jang A Jii was inhibited the formation of gastric mucosal injury. Comparing with garlic Jug A Jii for 3 weeks, while garlic Jang A Jii juice and 1 : 10 diluted garlic Jang A Jii juice did not show significant shifts but the effects of 1 100 diluted garlic Jang A Jii was decreased. Oral administration of disulfide prevented the gastric mucosa injury whereas sulfhydryl blockers such as N-ethylmaleimie and indomethacin was decreased on gastric mucosa protective effect. The content of diallyl disulfide was 1.41mg% in raw garlic, 0.96mg% in garlic Jang A Jii for 3 weeks. The content of diallyl disulfide was gradually reduced according to the elapse of storage period.
An anion exchange chromatography was employed for the purification of mouse monoclonal antibodies from ascitic fluid and in vitro cultivation media. After cultivation of hybridomas, Alps 25-3, HCGK, A4W, and KW, producing IgG1, the culture supernatants were harvested by centrifugation, precipitated with 50-60% ammonium sulfate, and dialyzed against 0.025 M Tris-HCI buffer (pH 8.2). Then the dialyzed samples were loaded into a DEAE-Trisacryl M anion exchange column. Monoclonal antibodies bound to the DEAE-Trisacryl M were eluted with 0.025 M Tris-HCI buffer (pH 8.2) containing 30-40 mM NaCl. In ammonium sulfate precipitation, the recovery of the monoclonal antibody was shown to be 90% and 84% from in vitro culture media containing 10% and 2% fetal bovine serum, respectively. On the other hand, the pretreatment by ultrafiltration enhanced the yield up to 91% whereas the purity was lower than that by ammonium sulfate treatment. Subsequently, in the DEAE-Trisacryl M chromatographic separation, the purities and recoveries of all the monoclonal antibodies from both the in vitro culture supernatants and ascitic fluids were 70-80% and 65% respectively. The monoclonal antibody, Alps 25-3 could be further purified with a purity of 95% through an immunoadsorbent chromatography.

The pretreatment of tungsten added $BaTiO_x$ ceramics was performed to improve the recovery of Ba, Ti and W. $BaTiO_x$ ceramics were digested with HF : HCl ( 1 : 2 ) mixture in an acid digestion bomb at $220^{\circ}C$ for 3 hrs. The concentration of Ba, Ti and W were determined by ICP-AES. Recoveries of Ba, Ti and W were 99.6%, 99.8% and 99.2%, respectively. And their C.V. values were 1.02%, 0.73% and 1.79%. Using this method, the analytical results of Ba, Ti and W for a real sample were obainted to be 25.9% (w/w), 38.8% (w/w) and 3.31% (w/w), respectively.
The biosorption and desorption of Cd were carried out using brown marine algae, known as the good biosorbent of heavy metals. The content of alginate bound to light metals could be changed by the physical and the chemical pretreatment of Sargassum fluitans biomass. The Cd uptake was independent of the alginate content. In case of protonated biomass, Cd uptake was the lowest because the alginic acid of biomass was dissolved to cadmium solution during the biosorption. The maximum Cd uptake of Sargassum biomass was ranged from 79 mg/g to 139 mg/g. In case of raw biomass, the higher the alginate content of biomass, the higher was the Cd uptake. 100% of Cd and light metals sorbed in the biomass were eluted at 0.1N HCI(pH 1.1). However, the elution efficiency in $CaCl_2$ and $Ca{(NO_3)}_2$solution was varied by the concentration, the solid to liquid ratio and the pH of calcium solution. The distribution coefficient between Cd and protons in the desorption solution at pH ranged from 1.6 to 2.9 was observed on the constant stoichometric coefficient(1.3).
Berberis koreana Palibin belonging to Berberidaceae family, a common herb in Korea, has been contained some quantity of Berberine analogue and other ingredients. Authors therefore paid attention to its pharmacological actions and examined the effects on sleep duration and rectal temperature in mouse with crystal (A) from Berberis koreana Palibin in Korean native plans. The experiment searching for the effect on sleep duration was performed with pretreatment of Berberis Koreana Palibin crystal (A) 30 min before the administration of 25 % ethanol, and its crystal were also administered intraperitoneally with the intention to examine the effect on rectal temperature in mouse. The results of the experiment were as follows; 1. Crystal (A) from Berberis koreana Palibin was made by extraction with ethanol and HCI. 2. Crystal (A) enhanced the hypnotic activity of alcohol in concentratins of 0.1 mg/10g or 0.15 mg/10g. 3. Rectal temperatures in mice were significantly reduced with administration of crystal (A) in concentrations of 0.1 mg/10g or 0.15 mg/10g. 4. The maximal reduction of rectal temperature and potentiation of the hypnotic activity were observed at 30 min after its administration. From the above results, it is clear that crystal (A) from Berberis koreana Palibin exerts the potentiation of hypnotic action of alcohol and reduction of rectal temperature in normal mouse. Its pharmacological effects are probably derived from the action upon the central nervous system.

Cu/PET film composites were prepared by electroless copper plating method. In order to improve adhesion between electroless plated Cu layer and polyester (PET) film, the effect of pretreatment conditions such as etching method, mixed catalyst composition were investigated. Chemical etching and plasma treatment increased surface roughness in decreasing order of Ar>HCl>O$_2$>NH$_3$. However, adhesion of Cu layer on PET film increased in the following order: $O_2$<Ar<HCl<NH$_3$. It indicated that appropriate surface roughness and introduction of affinitive functional group with Pd were key factors of improving adhesion of Cu layer. PET film was more finely etched by HCI tolution, resulting in an improvement in adhesion between Cu layer and PET film. Plasma treatment with NH$_3$produced nitrogen atoms on PET film, which enhances chemisorption of Pd$^{2+}$ on PET film, resulting in improved adhesion and shielding effectiveness of Cu layer deposited on the Pd catalyzed surface. Surface morphology of Cu plated PET film revealed that Pd/Sn colloidal particles became more evenly distributed in the smaller size by increasing the molar ratio of PdCl$_2$; SnCl$_2$from 1 : 4 to 1 : 16. With increasing the molar ratio of mixed catalyst, adhesion and shielding effectiveness of Cu plated PET film were increased.d.
The effect of the pretreatment by solvent extraction on the saccharification of poplar (Populus euramencana) was studied. The solvent system was Phenol/H2O(Uncatalyzed)and Phenol/H2O/HCl catalyst system. When the poplar was pretreated by uncatalyzed system, the best result of the saccharification was total of 43.9 g/1 reducing sugar produced and 83.5% of carbohydrated conversion was obtained at 19$0^{\circ}C$, 60 minutes. Total wood yield and the lignin removal were 46.3% and 98.2% respectively. The use of acid catalyst was unsuitable to increase he efficiency of saccharification.
An ubiquitous bacterium, Pseudomonar cepacia KH410 was isolated from fresh water plant root and identified. Adsorption of heavy metals of lead, cadmium and copper by this strain was investigated. Optimal conditions foradsorption was 1.0 dry g-biomass, at pH 4.0 and temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. Adsorption equilibrium reached max-imum after 120 min in 1000 mg/l metal solutions. The adsorption capacity (K) of lead was 5.6 times higher thancadmium and 4.0 times higher than that of copper. Adsorption of lead was applicable for Langmuir modelwhereas Freundlich model for cadmium and copper, respectively. Adsorption strength (1/n) of heavy metal ionswere in the order of lead>copper>cadmium. Uptake capacity of lead, cadmium and copper by dried cell was83.2,42.0,65.2 mg/g-biomass, respectively. Effective desorption was induced 0.1 M HCI for lead and 0.1 $HNO_3$ for cadmium and copper. Pretreatment to increase ion strength was the most effective with 0.1 M KOH.Uptake by immobilized cell was 77.8,58.5,71.2 mg/g-biomass for lead, cadmium and copper, respectively. Theimmobilized cell was more effective than ion exchange resin on removal of heavy metals in solution containinglight metals.
