The analysis of Bismuth metal and its alloy by using of cation exchanger (양이온교환수지에 의한 비스무트 지금 및 합금의 분리 정량)

  • It is shown that the impurities of Cu(II), Pb(II), Zn(II) and Ag(I) in Bismuth metal and the components of Pb(II), Zn(II) and Sn(IV) in Bismuth alloy are separated into their components from each other by elutions through $3.14cm^2{\times}10cm$ cation exchange resin, $Dowex\;50w\;{\times}\;8$ (100~200 mesh), column with the mixed solutions of HAc and NaAc as the eluents. The elution curve of Fe(III) has a long tailing and is not separated quantitatively from Bi(III). The eluents used for this separation are as follows; 1M HAc + 0.1M NaAc (pH 3.36) for Fe(III) and Bi (III). 0.3M HAc + 0.3M NaAc (pH 4.70) for Cu(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II). 0.5M HAc + 0.5M NaAc (pH4.70) for Ag(I) and Sn(IV). The analysis of cations eluted are carried out by spectrophotometry and EDTA titrimetry. Their recoveries are more than 99%.

Clinical and Clinicopathological Findings of Naturally Occurring Hyperadrenocorticism in Dogs: A Retrospective Study of 17 Cases

  • A retrospective study of 17 dogs with hyperadrenocorticism (HAC) was performed to evaluate the clinical and clinicopathological outcomes in dogs with pituitary-dependent HAC or adrenal gland-dependent HAC. Sixteen dogs were monitored at day 10, 30 and 90 then every 3 month after first presentation. In each examination, physical examination and ACTH stimulation test and client questionnaire were performed. In 17 cases, eight dogs were successfully treated with mitotane therapy (median dose 16.7 mg/kg; range 5.3 to 50 mg/kg, SID); another one dog showed favorable response, but the clients declined to further treatment before the full control of the disease had been achieved; four dogs showed poor response to treatment. One dog was euthanized due to septicemia. These results showed canine HAC can be medically managed successfully without side effects at the doses used in this study.

  • Hepatoid adenocarcinoma (HAC) is a rare form of adenocarcinoma that is diagnosed based on immuno-histochemical findings reminiscent of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The clinical characteristics of HAC include increased levels of serum alpha-fetoprotein and a poor prognosis due to early liver metastasis. In particular, diagnosing liver metastasis of HAC can be challenging owing to radiological findings similar to those of HCC. Although HAC can occur in various organs, the stomach is the most common site. We present the case of a 64-year-old femalewho presented with multiple tumors in the liver. During subsequent examination, rectal cancer was identified and diagnosed as HAC through a biopsy. Herein, we report this case along with a literature review.

The Effect of Water Soluble Polymer on the Flexural Strength and Moisture Sensitivity in MDF Cement Composites (MDF 시멘트 복합재료의 휨강도와 수분민강성에 미치는 수용성 폴리머의 영향)

  • Flexural strength, microstructure, hydration reaction and moisture sensitivity in macro defect-free (MDF) cement, which basically prepared of high alumina cement (HAC) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and polyvinylalcohol (PVA) as water soluble polymer were investigated. Cement composites based on HAC-PVA system were improved in flexural strength than that of HAC-HPMC system especially, the strength of specimens added to 10 wt% of polyvinylalcohol was 160 MPa. These improvements of flexural strength were attributed to not only the effect of water soluble polymer in elimination of macropores (above 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$) and cement grain bridging, but the effect of unhydrate cement as an aggregate. Moisture sensitivity and flexural strength in wet condition of MDF cement composites immersed in water at 80$^{\circ}C$ for 3 days were decreased.

D-dimer Analysis in Dogs With Hypercoagulable Diseases

  • Total 283 dogs were enrolled in this study (control group: 140, patient group: 143). In the patient group, 143 dogs with underlying diseases including immune medicated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) (7), lymphoma (30), hyperadrenocorticism (HAC) (16), trauma (10), pyometra (8), bone fracture (38), peritonitis (13), meningoencephalitis (12) and mitral regurgitation (9) were enrolled in this study. Compared with healthy group, lymphoma, trauma, HAC, and IMHA group showed significantly (P < 0.01) high values of D-dimer and the highest levels in the IMHA group. Additionally, we evaluated the D-dimer level after a week of enoxaparin treatment, and the results showed D-dimer levels of post treatment group were significantly decreased compared to the pre-treatment group in lymphoma, HAC, trauma and IMHA diseases. In the high level D-dimer group, post D-dimer values after enoxaparin treatment had significantly decreased (P < 0.01) compared to levels prior to treatment.

The Effects of Polyurethane Resin on the Water Stability of HAC/PVA Based MDF Cement Composites (Polyurethane 첨가에 의한 HAC/PVA계 MDF 시멘트 복합재료의 수분안정성 영향)

  • Mechanical properties and water stability of HAC/PVA based MDF cement composite were investigated using polyurethane(PU) resin, silane coupling agent and various PVA. The results were as follows ; The flexural strength of MDF cement composite increased as increasing with PVA content. Low-viscosity PVA developed higher flexural strength than high-viscosity PVA under a drying curing condition. But the strength of water immersed specimen decreased. Water stability of MDF cement improved as increasing with content of PU. Consequently, water stability of polyurethane 7% added MDF cement was about 2 times higher than that of the controlled specimen. Furthermore, the strength and water stability of diamine group based silane couling agent in using MDF cement increased and improved dramatically.

Effect of highly activated calcium on the growth of mushrooms (고활성칼슘의 버섯 생육에 대한 효과)

  • Highly Activated Calcium(below HAC) is the oxidized calcium made by dissolving shell materials with high voltage about 15,000V and high temperature ($1,500{\sim}5,000^{\circ}C$). This HAC is a material with a very high degree of purity without toxicant. This HAC decreases chemical reaction so the degree of being active and dissolving living material is outstanding. The effects of HAC on the propagation of mushrooms are following. In the case of the Pleurotus ostreatus, when controlling media moisture by mixing with the HAC, mycelium cultivating days were shortened by 2days. The day required for primordial formation after inoculation(DPI) were one day faster. The number of stem was 15 and individual weight was 248g/850cc, a 6.5% increase. In the case of Pleurotus eryngii, when controlling media moisture by mixing with the highly activated calcium, mycelium cultivating days were shortened by 3days. DPI were l day faster. The day required for colonization after inoculation was shortened by 6days and individual weight was 108.8g/850cc, a 9.7% increase. In the case of Flammulina velutipes, the highly activated calcium was the best for scraping up mycelium. Mycelium incubating days were shortened by 2days. DPI were shortened by 3days. The day required for colonization after inoculation was 1day faster and the period of cultivation was shortened by 3days. Individual weight was 165g/850cc, a 6.7% increase. In the case of Lentinula edodes, when mixing media with the highly cultivated calcium, cultivating days were shortened by 3 days. The days for becoming brown in color were 2 days faster and the days of the first harvest were shortened by 4 days. The weight of mushrooms was 169g/2kg, a 9.7% increase.

The combination of a histogram-based clustering algorithm and support vector machine for the diagnosis of osteoporosis

  • Purpose: To prevent low bone mineral density (BMD), that is, osteoporosis, in postmenopausal women, it is essential to diagnose osteoporosis more precisely. This study presented an automatic approach utilizing a histogram-based automatic clustering (HAC) algorithm with a support vector machine (SVM) to analyse dental panoramic radiographs (DPRs) and thus improve diagnostic accuracy by identifying postmenopausal women with low BMD or osteoporosis. Materials and Methods: We integrated our newly-proposed histogram-based automatic clustering (HAC) algorithm with our previously-designed computer-aided diagnosis system. The extracted moment-based features (mean, variance, skewness, and kurtosis) of the mandibular cortical width for the radial basis function (RBF) SVM classifier were employed. We also compared the diagnostic efficacy of the SVM model with the back propagation (BP) neural network model. In this study, DPRs and BMD measurements of 100 postmenopausal women patients (aged >50 years), with no previous record of osteoporosis, were randomly selected for inclusion. Results: The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the BMD measurements using our HAC-SVM model to identify women with low BMD were 93.0% (88.0%-98.0%), 95.8% (91.9%-99.7%) and 86.6% (79.9%-93.3%), respectively, at the lumbar spine; and 89.0% (82.9%-95.1%), 96.0% (92.2%-99.8%) and 84.0% (76.8%-91.2%), respectively, at the femoral neck. Conclusion: Our experimental results predict that the proposed HAC-SVM model combination applied on DPRs could be useful to assist dentists in early diagnosis and help to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with low BMD and osteoporosis.

An Incremental Web Document Clustering Based on the Transitive Closure Tree (이행적 폐쇄트리를 기반으로 한 점증적 웹 문서 클러스터링)

  • In document clustering methods, the k-means algorithm and the Hierarchical Alglomerative Clustering(HAC) are often used. The k-means algorithm has the advantage of a processing time and HAC has also the advantage of a precision of classification. But both methods have mutual drawbacks, a slow processing time and a low quality of classification for the k-means algorithm and the HAC, respectively. Also both methods have the serious problem which is to compute a document similarity whenever new document is inserted into a cluster. A main property of web resource is to accumulate an information by adding new documents frequently. Therefore, we propose a new method of transitive closure tree based on the HAC method which can improve a processing time for a document clustering, and also propose a superior incremental clustering method for an insertion of a new document and a deletion of a document contained in a cluster. The proposed method is compared with those existing algorithms on the basis of a pre챠sion, a recall, a F-Measure, and a processing time and we present the experimental results.
