  • Eighteen (18) (120×300×2200 mm) beams were prepared and tested to evaluate the shear strength of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) beams with no shear reinforcement, and evaluate the effectiveness of various innovative strengthening systems to increase the shear capacity of the GFRC beams. The test variables are the amount of discrete glass fiber (0.0, 0.6, and 1.2% by volume of concrete) and the type of longitudinal reinforcement bars (steel or GFRP), the strengthening systems (externally bonded (EB) sheet, side near-surface mounted (SNSM) bars, or the two together), strengthening material (GFRP or steel) links, different configurations of NSM GFRP bars (side bonded links, full wrapped stirrups, side C-shaped stirrups, and side bent bars), link spacing, link inclination angle, and the number of bent bars. The experimental results showed that adding the discrete glass fiber to the concrete by 0.6%, and 1.2% enhanced the shear strength by 18.5% and 28%, respectively in addition to enhancing the ductility. The results testified the efficiency of different strengthening systems, where it is enhanced the shear capacity by a ratio of 28.4% to 120%, and that is a significant improvement. Providing SNSM bent bars with strips as a new strengthening technique exhibited better shear performance in terms of crack propagation, and improved shear capacity and ductility compared to other strengthening techniques. Based on the experimental shear behavior, an analytical study, which allows the estimation of the shear capacity of the strengthened beams, was proposed, the results of the experimental and analytical study were comparable by a ratio of 0.91 to 1.15.

  • Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) sheets have been widely used to retrofit and rehabilitate RC structures, while in case of retrofitting steel structures, there are no codes and researches. It stems from configuration of member and characteristics of bonding behavior. This study focused on the static behavior of steel beams reinforcement by AFRP sheets. The main objective of the experimental programme was the evaluation of the force transfer mechanism, the increment of the beam load carrying capacity and the bending stiffness. A bending test was conducted on a H-shaped steel beam, with aramid FRP sheets bonded to its flanges. The mid-span deflection and the strain from three points along AFRP sheets were recorded Test results exhibit that the increment of the load-carrying capacity with reference to a mid-span deflection level of 15 mm(1/125mm of the clear span) was equal to 9.4% and for the two layers case, an elastic stiffness increment is slightly higher than one layer case.

  • In long span steel structure, the plate girder reinforced with stiffeners are commonly used. When choosing the cross section with deep depth of girder as well as narrow width, however, out of plane buckling can be a problem due to web slenderness. In an effort to solve this issue, current study determined the applicability of using corrugated web girder with deep depth as bending member, which is generally being utilized in both factory and warehouse nationwide. To accomplish this, we performed the loading test of H-shaped beam with sinusoidal corrugated web. Corrugated web CP-2.3 specimen exhibited 12% less maximal bending strength but CP-3.2 specimen exerted 24% increase in strength compared to plate web P-4.5. this result indicates that corrugated web provides enough strength even with unfavorable width-thickness ratio of plate. And bending as well as shear strength estimated by the Eurocode (EN 1993-1-5) were compared with both bending strength by loading test and shear strength estimated by KBC2009. In case of eurocode, increase in plate thickness did not help in bending performance improvement. moreover, shear performance was sensitive to the thickness of the web folds and the shape of the web plate.

  • $Y_2O_3$ ceramic specimens were fabricated from the granular powder, obtained by spray drying process from the slurry. The slurry was prepared by mixing PVA binder, NaOH for Ph control, PEG and $Y_2O_3$ powder. The $Y_2O_3$ specimen was shaped in size of ${\phi}14mm$ and then sintered at $1650^{\circ}C$. The characteristics, microstructure, densities and plasma resistance of the $Y_2O_3$ specimens were investigated with the function of forming pressure and sintering time. $Y_2O_3$ specimens were exposed under the $CHF_3/O_2/Ar$ plasma, the dry etching treatment of specimens was carried out by the physical reaction etching of $Ar^+$ ion beam and the chemical reaction etching of $F^-$ ion decomposed from $CHF_3$. With increasing sintering time, $Y_2O_3$ specimens showed relatively high density and strong resistance in plasma etching test.
