The aim of the paper is to analyse the extinction law in the giant H II region NGC 3603. The ratio R is found to be greater than 5.0. In front of the cluster the reddening law is found to be normal. We have obtained a distance of $\~$5.3 Kpc which is significantly smaller than those adopted so far.
The effect of process parameters on $H_2$ production from water vapor excited by HF ICP has been qualitatively examined for the first time. With the increase of ICP power, characteristics of $H_2$ production from $H_2O$ dissociation in plasma was divided into 3 regions according to both reaction mechanism and energy efficiency. At the edge of region (II) in the range of middle ICP power, energy effective hydrogen production from $H_2O$ plasma can be achieved. Furthermore, within the region (II) power condition, heating of substrate up to $500^{\circ}C$ shows additional increase of 70~80% in $H_2$ production compared to $H_2O$ plasma without substrate heating. This study have shown that combination of optimal plasma power (region II) and wall heating (around $500^{\circ}C$) is one of effective ways for $H_2$ production from $H_2O$.

We present wide-field $JHK_s$-band photometric observations of the three compact H II regions G48.9-0.3, G49.0-0.3, and G49.2-0.3 in the active star-forming region W51B. The star clusters inside the three compact H II regions show the excess number of stars in the $J-K_s$ histograms compared with reference fields. While the mean color excess ratio $(E_{J-H}/E_{H-K_s})$ of the three compact H II regions are similar to ${\sim}2.07$, the visual extinctions toward them are somewhat different: ${\sim}17$ mag for G48.9-0.3 and G49.0-0.3; ${\sim}23$ mag for G49.2-0.3. Based on their sizes and brightnesses, we suggest that the age of each compact H II region is ${\leq}2\;Myr$. The inferred total stellar mass, ${\sim}1.4{\times}10^4M_{\odot}$, of W51B makes it one of the most active star forming regions in the Galaxy with the star formation efficiency of ${\sim}10%$.
Dynamical expansion of H II regions plays a key role in dispersing surrounding gas and therefore in limiting the efficiency of star formation in molecular clouds. We use analytic methods and numerical simulations to explore expansions of spherical dusty H II regions, taking into account the effects of direct radiation pressure, gas pressure, and total gravity of the gas and stars. Simulations show that the structure of the ionized zone closely follows Draine (2011)'s static equilibrium model in which radiation pressure acting on gas and dust grains balances the gas pressure gradient. Strong radiation pressure creates a central cavity and a compressed shell at the ionized boundary. We analytically solve for the temporal evolution of a thin shell, finding a good agreement with the numerical experiments. We estimate the minimum star formation efficiency required for a cloud of given mass and size to be destroyed by an HII region expansion. We find that typical giant molecular clouds in the Milky Way can be destroyed by the gas-pressure driven expansion of an H II region, requiring an efficiency of less than a few percent. On the other hand, more dense cluster-forming clouds in starburst environments can be destroyed by the radiation pressure driven expansion, with an efficiency of more than ~30 percent that increases with the mean surface density, independent of the total (gas+stars) mass. The time scale of the expansion is always smaller than the dynamical time scale of the cloud, suggesting that H II regions are likely to be a dominant feedback process in protoclusters before supernova explosions occurs.
Images taken with the Chandra X-ray telescope have for the the first time revealed the central, wind-driven, hot bubble (Chu et al. 2001), while Hubble Space Telescope (HST) WFPC2 images of the Cat's Eye nebula, NGC 6543, show that the temperature of the halo region of angular radius ~ 20", is much higher than that of the inner bright H II region. With the coupling of a photoionization calculation to a hydrodynamic simulation, we predict the observed 〔O III〕 line intensities of the halo region with the same O abundance as in the core H II region: oxygen abundance gradient does not appear to exist in the NGC 6543 inner halo. An interaction between a (leaky) fast stellar wind and halo gas may cause the higher excitation temperatures in the halo region and the inner hot bubble region observed with the Chandra X-ray telescope.
Genetic variants of Hanwoo mtDNA in the region of cytochrome oxidase subunit I, II and III complex were detected using restriction enzymes. PCR primers were designed based on the bovine mtDNA sequence, and 6 primer sets (Mt4, Mt5, Mt6, Mt7, Mt8 and Mt9) were used. A total of 20 restriction enzymes were used, and 6 restriction enzymes, which were Hinf I, Pvu II, Rsa I, Eco RI, Bgl II, and Msp I, showed genetic polymorphisms. Significant associations between genetic variants and weight traits were observed at WT15 (p<0.05) and WT18 (p<0.01) with Pvu II for Mt9, Bgl II for Mt6 and Rsa I for Mt8 segments in the region of cytochrome oxidase subunit complex. Significant associations were also observed at Mt9-Pvu II and Mt6-Bgl II segments for WT9 (p=0.01), WT12 (p=0.02), respectively. These results suggest that genetic variants of mtDNA in the region of cytochrome oxidase subunit complex may be candidate segments for improvement of animal growth as weight traits.

The molecular gas surrounding an H II region is thought to be a place where star formation can be induced. Such triggered star formation can arise form the overpressurization of existing density enhancements or thought the collapse of a swept up layers of material. In this talk, We will discuss the results of a study of star-formation activity associated with the outer Galaxy ring-shaped H II regions KR 7, KR 81, KR 120 and KR 140 using archival Spitzer and WISE data along with the JHK observations. We used CO data cubes from the FCRAO and TRAO in order to define extent of the molecular cloud associated each HII region. Using the infrared data sets, We identified and classified YSO populations within each molecular cloud using measures such as the class I/II ratio and YSO spatial density. Along with this, one of the main question in the study of star formation is how protostar accrete material from their parent molecular clouds and observations of infall motions are needed to provide direct evidence for accretion. Combining our observation of the YSO population distribution with time scales associated with YSO evolution and HII expansion, we investigated the possible significance of triggered star formation in the molecular cloud surrounding each region.
We developed a new grid-based Monte Carlo code to trace far UV He II line photons that are incident on a thick H I region and subsequently transferred through Rayleigh and Raman scattering with atomic hydrogen. In particular, we consider a neutral region that is moving away from the He II emission source which is either monochromatic or is described by a Gaussian profile. The resultant Raman scattered He II line profiles from a monochromatic source are characterized by a double peaked core part with an extended Raman red tail that is attributed to multiple re-entry events. Complicated behaviors are observed in the case of a Gaussian He II source including the formation of a secondary red peak near the Balmer center dependent on the H I column density. A preliminary application of our results to the CFHT data of the planetary nebula IC 5117 is presented.
We focus on two Galactic molecular clouds that are located in wholly different environments and both are observed by FIMS instrument onboard STSAT-1. The Draco cloud is known as a translucent molecular cloud at high Galactic latitude. The FUV spectra show important ionic lines of C IV, Si IV+O IV], Si II* and Al II, indicating the existence of hot and warm interstellar gases in the region. The enhanced C IV emission inside the Draco cloud region is attributable to the turbulent mixing of the interacting cold and warm/hot media, which is supported by the detection of the O III] emission line and the $H{\alpha}$ feature in this region. The Si II* emission covers the remainder of the region outside the Draco cloud, in agreement with previous observations of Galactic halos. Additionally, the H2 fluorescent map is consistent with the morphology of the atomic neutral hydrogen and dust emission of the Draco cloud. In the Aquila Rift region near Galactic plane, FIMS observed that the FUV continuum emission from the core of the Aquila Rift suffers heavy dust extinction. The entire field is divided into three sub-regions that are known as the- "halo," "diffuse," and "star-forming" regions. The "diffuse" and "star-forming" regions show various prominent H2 fluorescent emission lines, while the "halo" region indicates the general ubiquitous characteristics of H2. The CLOUD model and the FUV line ratio are included here to investigate the physical conditions of each sub-region. Finally, the development of an infrared imaging system known as the MIRIS instrument onboard STSAT-3 is briefly introduced. It can be used in WIM studies through $Pa{\alpha}$ observations.
We report relative proper motion measurements of $H_{2}O$ masers in massive star-forming region W51 Main, based on data sets of VLBI observations for $H_{2}O$ masers at 22 GHz with Japanese VERA telescopes from 2003 to 2006. Data reductions and single-beam imaging analysis are to measure internal kinematics of maser spots and eventually to estimate the three-dimensional kinematics of $H_{2}O$ masers in W51 Main. Average space motions and proper motion measurements of $H_{2}O$ masers are given both graphical and in table formats. We find in this study that W51 Main appears to be associated with hyper-compact H II region with multiple massive proto-stars whose spectral types are of late O.
