  • A LCoS micro-display using polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) for light switching layer was fabricated. The Si backplane of SVGA ($800{\times}600$) with a pixel size of $14{\times}14mm^2$ was prepared by a $0.35{\mu}m$ 18V CMOS process. PDLCs were filled in the gap between backplane and ITO glass by conventional vacuum filling method. The prepared panels were driven by a field sequential color (FSC) scheme at the frequency of 180Hz and were successful in modulating LED lights to show projection images. The preparation and performance of PDLC-LCoS are presented.

  • Q fever is a rickettsial infection caused by Coxiella burnetii that is transmitted from animals to humans. Modes of transmission to humans include inhalation, tick bites and ingestion of unpasteurized milk or dairy products. This survey was aimed at monitoring the seroprevalence of C. burnetii in bulk-tank milk (BTM) in Gyeongbuk province. In addition, the seroprevalence of C. burnetii was investigated at the herd level of dairy cattle in eastern Gyeongbuk province in which many dairy cattle are reared. Among 324 BTM samples collected from 20 country areas, 175 (54%) BTM samples from 15 (75%) country areas were positive for C. burnetii by ELISA. By regions, the seroprevalence of BTM samples in eastern, central, western and northern areas of Gyeongbuk province were 62.7%, 48.4%, 45.1%, and 41.4%, respectively. When analyzed in the dairy cattle reared in the eastern area where high seroprevalence occurred in BTM samples, 119 (24.2%) out of 492 dairy cattle were positive for C. burnetii. Seroprevalence of C. burnetii in dairy cattle was increased with daily milk yield of farm (P<0.05) and age (P<0.001). Since seroprevalence of C. burnetii is relatively high in both BTM samples and dairy cattle reared in Gyeongbuk province, further studies on the high risk farms and herds are needed to evaluate infection status and appropriate control programs in this region.

  • Recently, local government has adopted the film location as the strategies for regional development and has established local film commissions for facilitating the film location. The film locations in Gyeongbuk have been grown gradually since Taejo Wang Geon, TV series was filmed in KBS on-location set of Mungyeong, and the government of Gyeongbuk established the Geeongbuk film commission in 2006. However, the film locations in Gyeongbuk are confined to filming some products in Gyeongbuk, and there's few film-related firms in Gyeongbuk. Furthermore, the film industries in Gyeongbuk is consumption-led and the capability of film-related firms is still weak. Therefore, Gyoengbuk film commission should play the wide roles, making the film-friendly institutions, creating local atmosphere of collaboration, fostering film-induced tourism, and maturing local film culture, as well as the general roles of film commission, offering the film location services, database services and networking.

  • Canine brucellosis is the zoonosis in worldwide and Brucella (B.) canis is a facultative intracellular pathogen that has a very limited host. MLVA-16 (Multilocus VNTR analysis) is a efficient method for genotyping of Brucella species. Various methods have been established for genotyping of Brucella species, but most of analytical method is lack reproducibility and limited capability to differentiate them. B. canis isolates (n=73) from 7 farms in Gyeongbuk province in 2003~2010 were analyzed using 16 VNTR loci. Automatic electrophoresis system was utilized for more high throughput and rapid simple discrimination. Thirty two genotypes were identified from 73 B. canis isolates. MLVA could contribute to molecular typing for epidemiological evaluation of canine brucellosis.

  • Chemical bath deposition (CBD) process conditions for depositing CdS buffer layers was studied for high efficiencies of CIGS thin film solar cells. Growth rate of CdS thin films has an effect on surface morphology and quality of thin films. By the change of growth rate, CdS buffer layers showed a large difference in surface morphology and this difference was closely related with the photovoltaic properties of CIGS solar cells.

  • A serological survey was performed to establish basic data for the prevalence of antibodies to some major diseases of domesticated boar serum samples from January to December 2000. Sera collected in breeding farms in Gyeongbuk province were tested for Aujeszky's disease virus(ADV), Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus(PRRSV), Porcine parvovirus(PPV), Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), Bordetella bronchiseptica(B bronchiseptica), Mycoplasma ; APP), Toxoplasma, and Brucella. There was no antibody to ADV in domesticated boars serum samples detected by Anti-ADV-gpI assay kit. Sero-positive samples to PRRS by IFA were 0.9%(3/330) The HI titers to PPV ranged variously from less than 10 to over 1,280. Two hundred ninety-four out of 330 tested sera showed HI titer of less than 10. In HI test to JEV, 90.3% of the sera (298/330) were below 10. The majority of the serum samples had low prevalence of the antibody B bronchiseptica. ELISA titers to M hyopneumoniae ranged variously from $\leq$ 10 to $\geq$ 1,280. Antibody titers to A pleuropneumoniae type 2(APP2) and type 5(APP5) were 58.2% and 52.7%, respectively, and the tested samples showing ELISA antibody titers of less than 20. There was no significant geographical difference between APP2 and APP5 in this study. In the antibody test of Toxoplasma, 11.5%(38/330) were positive and samples were all negative in sera test of Brucella.

  • Johne's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease of cattle, sheep, goats and other ruminants, and Mycobacterium paratuberculosis is the etiologic agent of this disease. Many studies have been carried out on paratuberculosis from daily cattle and Korean native cattle in multiple areas around nation, but there is no report in Eastern-Gyeongbuk area. The purpose of this study is to investigate the seroprevalence of bovine paratuberculosis in Eastern-Gyeongbuk area. From July to December in 2007, blood samples were collected from 363 dairy cattle of 27 farms and 281 Korean cattle of 114 farms and the ELISA was conducted. 25 (6.9%) dairy cattle of 6 (22%) farms and 19 (6.8%) Korean cattle of 8 (7.0%) farms were positive in ELISA. In regional analysis, 25 (8.3%) out of 300 dairy cattle in Gyeungju were positive and Pohang were negative in this research. 12 (16.4%) out of 73 Korean cattle in Gyeungju and 7 (9.6%) out of 73 Korean cattle in Uljin were positive. Pohang and Youngdeok of Korean cattle were negative in this research. According to raising scale of dairy cattle, 4 (66.7%) farms out of 6 farms were raising 30 below and 2 (33.3%) farms out of were raising 30$\sim$70. And there were negative raising scale more than 70. In Korean cattle, 6 (75%) farms out of 8 were raising below 10 and 2 (25%) farms were raising 10$\sim$30. And there were negative raising scale more than 30. The rate of seropositive of paratuberculosis dairy cattle and Korean cattle were similar and the positive rate of Eastern-Gyeongbuk area is reported lower than that of any other region.
