Object : This study was undertaken to define the mechanism of GwakHyangJungGiSan-induced relaxation in rabbit common carotid artery contracted by agonists. Method : In order to investigate the effect of GwakHyangJungGiSan on rabbit's contracted vascular ring detached from common carotid artery, vascular ring intact or damaged endothelium was used for the experiment using organ bath. To analyze the mechanism of GwakHyangJungGiSan-induced relaxation, GwakHyangJungGiSan extract was infused into contracted vascular ring which had been pretreated by pretreatment of indomethacin(IM), tetraethylammonium chloride(TEA), $N{\omega}-nitro-L-arginine(L-NNA)$. Result : GwakHyangJungGiSan blocks an inflow of $Ca^{2+}$ and relaxes vascular ring by the action of Nitric oxide from endothelium. Consequently when GwakHyangJungGiSan is prescribed, a rise in blood pressure by the resistance of peripheral vessel may be controlled to some extent and so it is anticipated that hypertension, a disorder of blood flow from the vascular contraction and vascular disease will be treated well.

According to <> and <>, Taeum is strongly related to dampness, earth, and canter. The origin of Taeum is dampness and the presentation of it is dryness, thus spleen plays a greater role than lung in physiologic and pathologic aspect. Taeum meridian cooperates with Soeum and Guelum meridian, and spreads yin gi through spleen and lung meridian. Among six meridian types that are invented by Ji-San, Taeum type possesses lowered eyes and nose and displays characteristics of Taeum disease. Instead of five jang organs and six bu orqans, meridians are major factor of Taeum type. Thus SiDongByung (disease of gi) and SoSaengByung (disease of blood) are considered more significantly than internal and external symptoms of organs. Personality of Taeum type is realistic, pragmatic, diligent, and occasionally selfish. Medications for Taeum type are described as following. GwakHyangJungKi-San or InSamYangWi-Tang can be considered for the complication of intrinsic and extrinsic diseases, which are caused by yin symptom of SangHan. If cold stomach affected by Taeum disease causes an abdominal pain and diarrhea, YiJoong-Tang or PalMiYiJoong-Tang are suggested.

Objective : Diarrhea is defined as an increased frequency of stools(more than three per day), increased liquidity(loose or watery) and decreased consistency or stools. This study was done to examine the efficacy of Gwakhyang-junggisan for two patients who had suffered from chronic diarrhea of unknown origin on examination. At the time of admission, patients complained of diarrhea 4 or 5 times per day accompanied with epigastric discomfort, quadri pain. As of the fourth day of Gwakhyang-junggisan administration, the frequency and liquidity of diarrhea decreased and accompanying symptoms also improved. Method : Gwakhyang-junggisan was used for these patients suffering from chronic diarrhea of origin unknown to western medicine. patients were diagnosed as daejang-sul as bihu disease. Result : Results were taken as two cases of effective treatment of chronic diarrhea with Gwakhyang-junggisan. Conclusion : Result of this study suggest that Gwakhyang-junggisan is all effective treatment for such symptoms of chronic diarrhea as epigastric discomfort, quadri pain.
