  • A study on gust loads alleviation using aircraft control surface was performed. Aeroservoelastic model including control surface controller was formulated and validated by comparing the results of continuous turbulence response analysis with those of MSC/NASTRAN. Optimal control with output feedback was adopted for designing the control surface controller, and the effects of gust loads alleviation was validated by performing the numerical simulation for the controller designed.

태풍 연직프로파일과 gust factor를 이용한 지상의 최대풍속 추정 (Estimation of the Maximum Wind to Surface Using Wind Profile in Typhoon and Gust Factor)

  • we applied Wind Field Module of PHRLM so that disaster prevention agency concerned can effectively estimate the possible strong wind damages by typhoon. In this study, therefore, we estimated wind speed at 300m level using 700hPa wind according to the research method by Franklin(2003), PHRLM(2003), and Vickery and Skerlj(2005). Then we calculated wind speed at 10m level using the estimated wind speed at 300m level, and finally, peak 3.second gust on surface. The case period is from 18LST August 31 to 03LST September 1, 2002, when the typhoon Rusa in 2002 was the most intense. Among disaster prediction models in the US, Wind Field Module of PHRLM in Florida was used for the 2002 typhoon Rusa case. As a result, peak 3.second gust on the surface increased $10\sim20%$ in the typhoon's 700hPa wind speed.

  • The vortex convection and induced flow field behind the KARI 3m x 4m LSWT gust generator was computed by using Computational Fluid Dynamics. For the accurate simulation of vortex convection, inviscid, laminar, Spalart-Allmars k-e and k-w turbulence models were tested with the NAL gust generator configuration and Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model was selected for the prediction of induced flow field behind the KARI LSWT gust generator. The wind tunnel test was also carried out at KARI LSWT and the results were compared with CFD prediction.

  • In this paper, a classical gust problem is treated by using the numerical lifting¬-surface theory to verify the effect of gust-a sudden fluctuating fluid velocity around an object, which is normal to the main stream direction-on the hydrody¬namic forces, especially the mean thrust in upstream direction, acting on the two¬-dimensional flat plate. In this case, the mean thrust wholly resorts to the leading edge suction, and it is the same situation to the case of the heaving plate in uniform flow. The ph¬enomenon of leading edge suction is very important for the flapping propulsion of animals, typical to fish and birds, and can be related to the prediction of the hydrodynamic forces acting on marine propellers operating in gustlike wakes of ships. The results of this paper can be easily superposed to those of the reference [1J in order to solve the problem of the two-dimensional oscillacting plate in gust

Typhoon damage analysis of transmission towers in mountainous regions of Kyushu, Japan

  • In the 1990s, four strong typhoons hit the Kyushu area of Japan and inflicted severe damage on power transmission facilities, houses, and so on. Maximum gust speeds exceeding 60 m/s were recorded in central Kyushu. Although the wind speeds were very high, the gust factors were over 2.0. No meteorological stations are located in mountainous areas, creating a deficiency of meteorological station data in the area where the towers were damaged. Since 1995 the authors have operated a network for wind measurement, NeWMeK, that measures wind speed and direction, covering these mountainous areas, segmenting the Kyushu area into high density arrays. Maximum gusts exceeding 70 m/s were measured at several NeWMeK sites when Typhoon Bart (1999) approached. The gust factors varied widely in southerly winds. The mean wind speeds increased due to effects of the local terrain, thus further increasing gust speeds.

태풍 Maemi에 의한 3-second gust가 경상남도에 미치는 최대 피해액 산정 (An Evaluation of the Maximum Damage Cost in Gyeongsangnam-do by Typhoon Maemi's 3-second gust)

  • 본 연구에서는 우리나라에 적합한 재해예측모형을 구축하기 위하여 중해상도(10km)의 입력 자료를 이용하여 태풍에 의해 지상에 발생 가능한 3-second gust를 추정하였다. 중해상도 입력자료의 구축은 경상남도(부산광역시 포함) 시 군 구 단위의 행정구역으로 구분하였으며, 추정된 3-second gust를 이용하여 건물의 주요구성 요소별로 피해 확률을 구한 뒤, 발생 가능한 최대피해액을 산정하였다. 태풍 Maemi에 의한 최대강풍 피해액은 여러 주택유형 중에서도 '대표주택' 유형의 경우 약 6천억 원으로 분석되었다. 비교적 내륙에 위치한 지역에서는 적은 피해액을, 해안가에 위치한 지역에서는 많은 피해액을 나타내며, 부산광역시에서 피해액이 높은 구 군의 경우 경상남도 시 군의 평균적인 피해액과 비슷한 것으로 보아 부산이 경상남도와 비교하여 면적으로는 작지만 태풍에 의한 강풍에 매우 취약함을 알 수 있다.

An investigation of the structure of ensemble averaged extreme wind events

  • This paper examines the extreme gust profiles obtained by conditionally sampling full-scale velocity data obtained in the lower part of the atmospheric boundary layer. It is demonstrated that three different types of behaviour can be observed in the streamwise component of velocity. In all cases the corresponding vertical velocity component illustrates similar behaviour. An idealised horseshoe vortex model and a downburst model are investigated to examine if such structures can explain the behaviour observed. In addition, an empirical model is developed for an isolated gust corresponding to each of the three types of behaviour observed. It is possible that the division of the gust profile into three different types may lead to an improvement in the correlation of extreme gust events with respect to type.

저마하수 예조건화 기법을 이용한 비행선의 돌풍 응답 해석 (Analysis of Airship Gust Response Using Low Mach Number Preconditioning)

  • 본 연구에서는 비정렬 격자계에서 비행선 돌풍 해석을 위한 해석 프로그램을 개발하였다. 지배방정식으로는 Euler 방정식이 사용되었으며, 비행선의 저마하수 운행 영역에서의 정확하고 효율적인 해석을 위해 저마하수 예조건화 기법을 적용하였다. 돌풍 모형으로는 sharp-edged gust가 사용되었다. 해석 기법의 검증을 위해서는 선형 방정식에 대해서 유도된 해석해와 비교하였으며, 잘 일치하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 실제적인 비행선 형상에 대해서 돌풍의 영향을 받을 때 양력 계수는 매우 큰 변화를 일으키는 반면에 모멘트는 상대적으로 작은 변화를 일으키는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 제어면의 사용으로 인해 더욱 강하게 정적으로 안정하게 되는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • In this study, active control system using sliding mode control method is presented to achieve the gust response alleviation of a three-dimensional flexible wing model. For this purpose, aeroservoelastic model which is composed of aeroelastic plant, control surface actuator model, and gust model depicting the atmospheric turbulence is formulated in the state space. The aerodynamic force generated by the motion of a trailing edge control surface of a flexible wing is made use of as control means. An active control system combining state feedback sliding mode controller and state estimator based on measured responses such as wing tip acceleration and wing root strain is designed for gust response alleviation of a flexible wing aeroservoelastic model. The performance of the controller designed is demonstrated via numerical simulation for the representative flexible wing model under gust loading conditions.

우리나라 강풍의 기후학적 시공간 변화 특성 (Climatological Spatio-Temporal Variation of Strong Wind in Korea)

  • In this study, the climatological spatio-temporal variation of strong wind and gust wind in Korea during the period from 1993 to 2018 was analyzed using daily maximum wind speed and daily maximum instantaneous wind speed data recorded at 61 observations. Strong wind and gust wind were defined as 14 m s-1 and 20 m s-1, which are the same as the KMA's criteria of special weather report. The frequency of strong wind and gust wind occurrence was divided into regions with the higher 25 percent (Group A) and the lower 75 percent (Group B). The annual frequency of strong wind and gust wind occurrence tended to be decreased in most parts of the Korean peninsula. In Group A with stations located at coastal region, strong wind and gust wind occurred most frequently in winter with higher frequency at 1200~1600 LST and 2300~2400 LST due to influence of East Asian winter monsoon. In addition, a marked decreasing trend throughout the four seasons was shown at Daegwallyeong, Gunsan and Wando observations. In contrast, it can be found in Group B that the monthly frequency of strong wind and wind gust occurrence was higher in August and September by effect of typhoon and hourly frequency was higher from 1200 LST to 1800 LST.
