  • The Art of the Buddha's Life which depicts the life and before-life of Buddha flourished in Sanci and Bharhut in the ancient India and in Gandhara during the Kushan period. More than one hundred scenes from Buddha's life were represented in the form of relief sculpture or wall painting. They are found in Gandhara and Mathura during the Kushan period, Amaravati and Nagarjunakonda during the Satavahana period, in Mathura and Sarnath during the Gupta period, and during the Pala Period. They unfolded in various forms and styles according to the text(Buddhist scripture), layout, and expressive technique. In Mathura, where the Evolution of the Buddha image was made about the same time as in Gandhara during the Kushan period, the Buddha's life was presented in a number of scenes related to the sacred sites; in four or eight scenes. In the case of the Eight Great Events of the Buddha's Life, the four scenes out of eight were different from those that were represented in Sarnath during the Gupta period, manifesting a transitional period. The Gupta period is widely known as the time when the classic artistic style was established. The art of Buddha's Life was produced only in Sarnath during this period, and it was the time when the Eight Great Events of the Buddha's Life was established as iconography, providing a model for those of the Pala period. Also, it was the time when the single image of Buddha was produced such as the 'Buddha delivering his first sermon,' 'Buddha's Enlightenment,' and 'Buddha's Death,' thus showing the emergence of the single Buddha image from the narrative Buddha's life image. In this paper, a general introduction of the relief sculpture of the Buddha's life from Sarnath during the Gupta period was given. The art of Buddha's life gave great influences on that of China, Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia, and can be emphasized as an important subject in understanding the development of the Buddhist art in East Asia. A further study will be made on the art of Buddha's Life of Southeast Asia in the future, which will enhance the understanding of the art of Buddha's Life in East Asia as a whole.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences between Mathura and gandhara Buddha's costume, and to observe the types and unique style of Mathura Buddha's costume. I classified all types of Mathura Buddha's costume by and largely and researched the feature of each type and creases of costume with the focus criterion works of that. The results are followed ① dress method of pt on left shoulder ; The early years ·a statue of standing : It is traced back to kaniska 2, 3 years before ·a seated figure : It is traced back to the latter of ksatraka period than a statue of standing The expression of costume creases is a way of expressing pure Indolike of mathura peculity ② dress method of put on right and left shoulder : the latter years It can be said that there is closeness with Gandhara Buddha's costume in method of creases. Mathura is center of Buddha's statue and influences to Gandhara with each other. Also mathura has developed peculiarly and at last Mathura made the masterpiece of Buddha's statue of Gupta period to acme of the 5 century.

  • Hypothyroidism was induced in three age groups (8 months, 1 year and 2 years) of Black Bengal goats by administering thiourea subcutaneously for 30 days. From fourth day onwards the animals were observed to be in hypothyroid state. For 8 months age group, a control group of similar age was taken. For the 1 year and 2 years age groups there was no control group but the values obtained on the pre-treatment day were considered as control values. For confirming the establishment of hypothyroidism, peripheral plasma triiodothyronine $(T_3)$ and thyroxine $(T_4)$ were estimated in all the animals before and during the treatment period by radioimunoassay. In the thiourea treated 8 months age group the $T_3$ and $T_4$ levels were significantly (p<0.001) lower than those in the control group during the treatment period. In all the thiourea treated groups the $T_3$ and $T_4$ levels observed during the treatment period were significantly (p<0.01) lower than the pre-treatment levels. A nonsignificant loss in the body weight was observed in all the thiourea treated groups whereas there was a significant growth in the control group of animals. The study indicates that hypothyroidism has a negative effect on growth in goats.

  • In this study, for estimating responses of a controlled structure and determining the maximum control force of velocity-dependent damping devices, three estimation models such as Fourier envelope convex model, probability model, and Newmark design spectrum are used. For this purpose, a procedure proposed by Gupta (1990) for estimating spectral velocity using pseudo-spectral velocity which is given by the estimation models is used and modified to consider the effects of increased damping ratio by the damping device. Time history results indicate that Newmark design spectrum gives the best estimation of maximum control force for over all period structures.

  • Entrepreneurship is considered as an important driver of economic growth, new firm creation, business rejuvenation& job creation. Over a period of time research within entrepreneurship literature has shifted from entrepreneur and his personality to his behavioral disposition. This has led to emergence of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) construct, which focuses on the process of entrepreneurship at firm level and it has emerged as the most widely researched area within entrepreneurship field. Though research in this field has been rigorous and exhaustive, still there have been concerns that researchers might have prematurely agreed on the composition, dimensionality, and nature of EO Construct. There has been considerable debate about whether EO Construct comprises three or five dimensions, about co-variance or independence of these dimensions and nature of construct whether formative or reflective. This article builds an argument about the multidimensional nature of EO construct comprising five dimensions, which vary independently and the fact that EO is better explained through formative construct rather than reflective one.
