The effects of guide pads on burnishing action and accuracy of machined hole are investigated in drilling with burnishing drill using a speciaaly designed tool experimentally. The cutting forces are balanced at the small forward regions of guide pads. The burnishing action takes place under a high contact pressure between the bore wall and those regions. The over size mechanism of machined hole by the guide pads is discussed.
Bonded lingual retained are divided into two common types; preformed retainers with attached mash pads, and those that are custom fabricated from standard round ir multi-standed wire. The clinician may encounter problems in the bonding process of both types of retainers because of an inability to accurtely place and temporarily stability the wire in the same position as it was adapted an a guide model. Because of these problems, a new fabrication technique of bonded lingual retainers which increase their accuracy and ease of placement and also increased their tretention was suggested by the author. Using a current model as a guide, this bonded lingual retainer was fabricated from $.028"{\sim}.032"$ standard round wire. The wire was formed with pliers for idel adapation to the lingual surfaces of the involved teeth. Right angle bends were placed in the retainer wire ends and custom "composite" bonding pads were added to the ends of the retainer wire. This bonded lingual retainer with custom "composite" bonding pads is easir to place because of the increased stability and the accuracy of placement is greatly increased. The increased insure that the retainer comforms ideally to the lingual surface of the teeth being retained.
In-situ bearing metal temperature and shaft vibration are measured for an unload type and a preload type, m=0.87, of vertical guide bearing for hydraulic pump-turbines. Guide bearing is a tiltingpad type journal bearing consisting of eight pads whose diameter is 1,450 mm. Rotational speed is 450 rpm. Both the bearing metal temperature and the shaft vibration are very high in the unload type but are slight in the preload type, comparatively. The bearing metal temperature is decreased due to the increase of cooling effect by the increase of preload and the shaft vibration is decreased due to the increase of bearing stiffness. It is concluded that the preload effect of a guide bearing for hydraulic pump-turbines has a large influence on the bearing metal temperature and the shaft vibration.
A new model utilizing a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analizing motion errors of hydrostatic tables. Relationship between film reaction force in a single hydrostatic pad and form error of a guide rail is derived at various spacial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called averaging effect of the oil film quantitively. For example, it is found that the amplitide of the film reaction force is reduced as the spacial frequency increases or relative width of the pocket is reduced. Motion errors of a multiple pad table is estimated from transfer function, geometric relationship between each pads and form errors of a guide rail, which is named as Transfer Function Method. Calculated motion errors by TFM show good agreement with motion errors calculated by Multi Pad Method, which is considered entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.
This work deals with on investigation the influence of various additives to a base stock cutting fluid in order to develop a better deep hold drilling. This investigation has been aiming at developing an oil which gives a maximum cutting efficiency at a minimum wear rate of the tool and the guiding pads. The purpose of study is to analyze how guide pad of tools, workpiece and the change of contained quantity of extreme pressure additive in cutting fluids have effects on the hold over size of cutting hole, surface roughness of workpiece, wear rates of guide pad and roundness during the deep hole machining of SM55C with solid BTA drill by using BTA drilling system through experiment. Conclusion reached is as follows. It has been proved that the contained quantity of surphur more affects machinability than that of extreme pressure additive of chlorine of cutting fluid in BTA drilling during Deep Hole Drilling. Considering its base oil, the the contained quantity of extreme pressure assitive of surphur can be different, but it's judged that the range of 1.5 ~ 2.0% is suitable to machinability for workpiece in BTA drilling. Regarding guide pad, it's judged that the reduction of wear is possible in propotion to the contained quantity of exrreme pressure additive of chlorine against supporting of cutting force and Bumishing operation of machining parts in cutting.
The guide-ways of precision machine tools are one of important element of machine tools. It has usually a pair of surfaces for constraint of one direction with bearing. In the case of precision machine tools, non-contact bearing such as hydrostatic bearing and aerostatic bearing is adopted usually. In this case, profiles of rails has effect on straightness and the clearance of bearing has effect on stiffness of guide way, which changes to higher if clearance changes to smaller. The clearance is varied along moving table according to relative distance of pair of rails. The relative distance of pair of rail can be divided by three properties. First and second properties are straightness of each pair of rail and bearing pad. And, third is parallelism about pair of rails and pairs of bearing pad. There are several methods for measuring straightness of each surface such as reversal method, sequential two point method, and way straightness. These straightness measuring methods are always acquiring deviation of profile from eliminating linear fitted inclined line and don't have the information of parallelism. Therefore, to get the small clearance for high stiffness, the straightness of rail and bearing pad and parallelism about pair of rails and pair of bearing pads are measured for correction such as regrinding, reassembling and lapping. In this research, new and easy method for measuring parallelism of pair of rails is suggested. Two displacement probe and sensor stage, which is carry on the displacement sensor, are needed. The simulation and experiment was accomplished about pair of horizontal guide way to confirm the measurement of parallelism. And, the third probe is added to measure the straightness of each rails by sequential two point method. From the estimation of combined these two methods, it is confirmed that the profiles of a pairs of rails can be measured.

A new method using a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analyzing the motion errors of hydrostatic bearing tables. The relationship between film reaction force in a single-side hydrostatic pad and the form error of guide rail is derived at various spatial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called 'the averaging effect of an oil film' quantitively. It is found that the amplitude of film force is reduced as the spatial frequency increases or the relative width of the pocket is reduced. The motion errors of a multi pad type table are estimated using a transfer function, the form errors of a guide rail and the geometric relationship between the pads. The method is named as the Transfer Function Method (TFM). The motion errors calculated by the TFM show good agreement with the motion errors calculated by the Multi Pad Method considering the entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.
In vertical hydro/hydraulic power turbine-generator applications, traditionally, cylindrical turbine guide bearings (TGBs) are widely used to provide turbine runner shafts with smooth rotation guides and supports. All existing cylindrical TGBs with simple plain pads have drawbacks such as having no pressure generation and film stiffness at the no-load condition and in addition, at the low-load/low-eccentricity condition, having very low film stiffness values and lacking design credibility in the stiffness values themselves. In this paper, in order to fundamentally improve the low-load/low-eccentricity performance of conventional cylindrical TGBs and thus enhance their design-application availability and usefulness, we propose to introduce a rotation-directional leading-edge taper to each partitioned pad, i.e., a pad leading-edge taper. We perform a design analysis of lubrication performance on $4-Pad{\times}4-Row$ cylindrical TGBs to verify an engineering/technical usefulness of the proposed pad leading-edge taper. Analysis results show that by introducing the leading-edge taper to each pad of the cylindrical TGB one can expect a constant high average direct stiffness with a high degree of design credibility, regardless of load value, even at the low-load/low-eccentricity condition and also control the average direct stiffness value by exploring the taper height as a design parameter. Therefore, we conclude that the proposed pad leading-edge tapers are greatly effective in more accurately predicting and controlling rotordynamic characteristics of vertical hydro-power turbine-generator rotor-bearing systems to which cylindrical TGBs are applied.
Cylindrical turbine guide bearings (TGBs) with simple plain pads have conventionally been used in vertical hydro-power turbine-generator applications in order to provide turbine runner shafts with smooth rotation guides and supports. To overcome low-load/low-eccentricity performance drawbacks, such as very low film stiffness and lack of design credibility in the stiffness values themselves, of conventional cylindrical TGBs, the introduction of a rotational-directional leading-edge taper to each partitioned pad, simply pad leading-edge taper, has been found to be very effective in enhancing their design-application availability and usefulness. In this study, we investigate the effects of taper angle and length for given taper heights in detail in order to systematically establish the effectiveness of design on the performance improvement of vertical hydro-power application cylindrical TGBs with pad leading-edge tapers. The analysis results with $4-Pad{\times}1-Row$ cylindrical TGBs show that the lubrication performance of the cylindrical TGBs is optimized with an approximate taper angle ratio of 0.8 and taper length ratio of 0.9. We conclude that the introduction of pad leading-edge tapers along with the optimization of taper designs can be very effective in improving the overall operation reliability of cylindrical TGBs and the rotordynamic characteristics of vertical hydro-power turbine-generator rotor-bearing systems as well, to which the TGBs are applied.
