This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of double cropping of safflower(Carthamus tinctotious L.) in vinyl house for rainshield culture. Planting methods, i.e., direct seeding as the first crop and direct seeding and transplanting as the second crop, were investigated. Growth characters and establishment were better in the first crop than in the second crop. Between direct seeding and transplanting of the second crop, growth was not significantly different, but establishment was much higher in direct seeding than in transplanting. Seed yield of the second crop was lower $30\~74\%$ than that of the first crop. In planting methods of the second crop, seed yield was higher in direct seeding than in transplanting. Therefore, optimum method of the second crop for double cropping of safflower in the middle parts of Korea was estimated as direct seeding.

"Hwasan 102" is a new cold-tolerant Italian ryegrass(Lo1ium rnultiflorum L.) variety developed by theNational Livestock Research Institute(NLRI) in 1999. Having cold tolerance in Italian ryegrass is an importantfor enlargement of cultivation area and increase of productivity in Korea. To develop the cold-tolerant varietyof Italian ryegrass, cold-tolerant clones survived under - 13- - 14$^{\circ}$C of minimum average air temperature(MAAT) in January were selected at Dun Nae, Kwangwon Province in 1993. Five of selected clones werepolycrossed for seed production by NLRI, RDA, in 1995."Hwasan 102" was tetraploid variety, dark green in leaf color and broad in flag leaf width. Also it hassemi-prostrate and medium growth habit in late autumn and in early spring, respectively. "Hwasan 102" withlow plant height at harvesting time was excellent in lodging tolerance. First heading date of "Hwasan 102"was 19th May, it was similar to that of Marshall. Expecially, "Hwasan 102" survived about 60% under - 10- - 12$^{\circ}$C of MAAT in January, so it could be cold-tolerant variety that can be safely cultivated in regionshigher than -9'C of MAAT in January. Compared with Marshall, "Hwasan 102" showed 8% higher freshyield (59.2MT per ha) but it showed 2% lower dry matter yield (9.6MT per ha). This study was conducted to isolate and characterize a novel feather-degrading bacterium producing keratinase activity. A strain K9 was isolated from soil at poultry farm and identified as Xanthomonas sp. K9 by phenotypic characters and 16S rRNA gene analysis. The cultural conditions for the keratinase production were 0.3% fructose, 0.1% gelatin, 0.04% $K_2HPO_4$, 0.06% $KH_2PO_4$, 0.05% NaCl and 0.01% $FeSO_4$ with an initial pH 8.0 at $30^{\circ}C$ and 200 rpm. In an optimized medium containing 0.1% chicken feather, production yield of keratinase was approximately 8-fold higher than the yield in basal medium. The strain K9 effectively degraded chicken feather meal (67%) and duck feather (54%), whereas human nail and human hair showed relatively low degradation rates (13-22%). Total free amino acid concentration in the cell-free supernatant was about 25.799 mg/l. Feather hydrolysate produced by the strain K9 stimulated growth of red pepper, indicating Xanthomonas sp. K9 could be not only used to increase the nutritional value of chicken feather but also a potential candidate for the development of natural fertilizer applicable to crop plant soil.
The study was set for one year to measure the effects of concentrate supplementation on reproductive performances and semen quality in indigenous rams. The study was conducted at the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh during the period from May 2011 to April 2012. Forteen ram lambs (4~5 months) were randomly divided into two equal groups (n=7); supplemented vs control. The animals of control group were maintained on natural grazing. Along with natural grazing the supplemented group was on supplemented feeding. The concentrate supplementation (Wheat bran, Crushed maize, Soy bean meal, Fish meal, DCP powder, Vitamin mineral premix, Salt) was provided @ 300 g/head /day to the supplemented group. Body weight, scrotal circumference, BCS and libido index were measured weekly. Age, body weight and scrotal circumference at puberty were recorded. Semen was collected once in a weak using artificial vagina and chilled at $5^{\circ}C$ for 48h for evaluation. Concentrate supplementation did not influence (p>0.05) body condition score, age, weight, scrotal circumference at puberty and libido index. Final body weight (kg), growth rate (g/d), scrotal circumference (cm) and scrotal growth rate (mm/15d) were significantly (p<0.05) higher in supplemented group of rams compared to control. Volume, concentration, motility and membrane potentiality of spermatozoa were varied significantly (p<0.05) in supplemented and control groups. However, density, mass motility, viability and sperm with normal acrosome, midpiece and tail were not differed insignificantly (p>0.05) in different observation times. It was concluded that concentrate supplementation with free grazing improved weight and scrotal circumference gain and semen production with increased quality in indigenous ram.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the variation of nitrogen use efficiency, nitrogen uptake efficiency, physiological utilization efficiency and their relationships with growth characteristics in the 28 Korean rice cultivars. Nitrogen use efficiency of 28 rice cultivars was 47.74, nitrogen uptake efficiency was 0.71, and physiological utilization efficiency was 68.76 in average. Nitrogen use efficiency of rice cultivars had low variation ranged from 44.09 to 51.91, but nitrogen uptake efficiency were relatively high variation from 0.51 to 0.90, and physiological utilization efficiency was from 51.71 to 94.26. The high efficient group in nitrogen uptake efficiency whose value was calculated above 0.80 included Daeanbyeo, Seojinbyeo, Ansungbyeo, Dongjinbyeo, and Hwaanbyeo, while the low efficient group with below 0.60 was Kwanganbyeo, Sampyeongbyeo, Soorabyeo, and Hwasungbyeo. Hwasungbyeo, Sampyeongbyeo, Soorabyeo for physiological utilization efficiency were more efficient cultivars, while Daeanbyeo, Seojinbyeo, Ansungbyeo were less efficient cultivars. Nitrogen uptake efficiency had positive correlation coefficients between dry matter weight of plant ($0.842^{**}$), leaf area index ($0.761^{**}$), and leaf nitrogen content ($0.599^{**}$), respectively. Therefore, the dry matter weight of rice plant and leaf area index was important characters to evaluate nitrogen uptake efficiency in rice cultivars. Also, more efficient cultivar in nitrogen uptake had higher chlorophyll meter value, which was appeared dark green color.

In order to quickly and clearly recognize characters or images through display glass, glare of the glass must be suppressed. In this study, we tried to reduce glare by analyzing changes in glass surface shape and optical properties through etching process. The etching process was performed as a function of concentrations of the etching solutions, BOE and HF. During the etching process, a compound containing F ion was generated on the surface of the glass, forming an irregular pattern in the form of a projection, and thus various optical properties of the glass were changed; reflectance of 2.5~4.6 %, haze of 4.5~6.6 %, transmittance of 77~92 %, and gloss of 82~107 GU. As a result, optimum etching condition was obtained to minimize the loss of other optical properties while suppressing glare of the glass.
In order to investigate the effect of sowing dates on some agronomical characters and yield of corn in southern part of Korea. a field experiment was carried out at Gyeongnam Provincial Livestock Breeding Station in chinju. Single cross hybrid corn (cv. Suwon #19) was sown from April 13 to June 2 with five-day interval in 1984 and 1984. The relationship between herbage and grain yield and various meterological measurements was evaluated. As the sowing dates were delayed. the days from sowing to seedling emergence were shortened, as more closely affected by the soil temperature at seedling emergence. growth period and was dependent on precipitation and temperature during the growth period. Based on the relationship between herbege dry matter yield of corn and soil temperature at seedling emergence, the estimated critical sowing date for corn in the southern Korea was March 23${\pm}$3.6 days.
This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of nitrogen application on the cold tolerance of rice plant, with treatment of three levels of nitrogen and three times of application under the low temperature at tillering and panicle initiation stages. The higher cold tolerance variety was increased in plant height and number of tillers on high nitrogen level during the low temperature treatment. Nitrogen content of leaf blade was increased, but carbohydrate content was decreased during the low temperature treatment at tillering stage. Ethylene evolution from leaf was remark-ably increased just after low temperature treatment. Highly significant negative correlation was observed bet-ween the nitrogen content of leaf blade and percentage of filled grain under low temperature condition at reproductive growth stage.
