  • Epilayer growing process has been recognized as a key technology for successful GaAs based devices and integrations. These may include HEMT, multiple quantum well structures, band gap engineering, and quantum confinement heterostructures. The fabrication of epilayers in these devices must meet very stringent requirements in terms of crystallinity, composition, film thickness and interface quality. In particular, the quality of interfaces is getting more important because the film thickness, and flatness, roughness and stability at interface of ultrathin films cause critical effects on the device performance. This article reviews the current status of modern epitaxial techniques which have been developed in the last few years. First, the new techniques PLE, GI, MEE, TSL based on MBE technique will be reviewed and their technical importance will be stressed. Secondly, MOMBE, GSMBE, CBE which combine the advantages of MBE and MOCVD will also be discussed. Thirdly, the new sophisticated epitaxial technique, ALE, of which mechanism is totally different from others, will also be reviewed. Finally, areas which should be exploited more extensively to accomplish these techniques will be addressed.

  • In the construction industry, construction process includes a variety of design stages with cooperation and regulation by many related disciplines. In addition, the construction market is growing and becoming more complex. With this characteristic, design information has become more and more complicated and difficult to manage by the simple and traditional data management methodology. In the practical field, although CAD has been widely available for the last ten years, related disciplines have not shared digital information efficiently. This paper suggests a construction CAD data exchange model that has been developed through investigation and analysis of Korean construction CAD practices and foreign CAD standards. Moreover, this paper investigates a CAD data exchange model using STEP to improve information availability and overcome the limit of CAD systems.

  • Ever-growing recreation, tourism and ecotourism worldwide have become a significant factor of resource degradation in many protected areas. Managers of these areas are increasingly challenged to implement policies, strategies and actions that would protect the resource base while providing quality visitor experience. One major issue in managing protected area visitations is that of carrying capacity, or the question of "how much use is too much\ulcorner". Scientific studies of visitor impacts, often known as recreation ecology, has generated a knowledge base that provides valuable input to the visitor carrying capacity management process adopted by the U.S. National Park Service. This paper aims at (a) providing an overview of recreation ecology research and its application in managing visitor carrying capacity, and (b) examining the relevance of recreation ecology to East Asian protected areas with special reference to the visitor capacity issue.ity issue.

  • The authors observed, in the routine roentgenographic examination, a rare case of Giant cell Reparative Granuloma found in the mandible of woman 23 years of age who had visited Infirmary of Dental College, Seoul National University' because of the traffic accident. In the serial roentgenograms, Authors had obtained the result as follows; 1. Giant cell Reparative Granuloma occurred below the 20 years of age, and occurred in mandible of female. 2. In roentgenograms, it figures the radiolucent lesion with multilocular apperance. 3. The growing process of Giant cell Reparative Granuloma is not by the neoplastic reaction, but by the local reparative reaction.

  • With the growing popularity of digital video applications, those areas of the efficient transmit, storage management, and search technology for video data are emerging as an important core technology. To be an effective video indexing system, users need to be able to find the video segments that they want. Unfortunately, video data is difficult to manage because of its unstructured data type and large volume with linear forms. This paper proposes a shot verification using visual rhythm and video retrieval system. The shot verification is designed to detect a segment from video easily and quickly, known as shot boundaries, just by changing the visual rhythm without playing the image. Therefore, this can decrease the false detected shots and generate the unidentified shots and key frames. The retrieval system is constructed in terms of visual descriptor from the list of MPEG-7. The effectiveness of the proposed shot verification process and video retrieval system is demonstrated.

  • Well-dying is as important as Well-Being because dying is also a natural part of life. Recently, due to the change of lifestyles, cancer, AIDS and other chronic diseases cause drastic increase of mortality rate. Needs for hospice services are growing as many terminal patients interested in quality of life during their end of life period. They want calm and dignity in case process as well as pain-relieving. However, there is not many researches on the architectural planning of hospice facilities and their service system as well as government regulations. This study focuses on the German hospice facilities which have developed advanced models through researches on service contents and architectural planning. The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data for designing hospice facilities through analyzing 7 cases of German hospice facilities with different characteristics.

  • Phenolin resin, prepared form phenol and formaldehyde, is one of the oldest thermosetting resins available. Phenolic resins are cured via condensation polymerization with evolution of water, which in molding process is a big problem. The use of phenolic resins in glass fiber composites is growing, primarily due to their low flame spread, low smoke generation and low smoke toxicity properties. SMC of phenolics has been rearched since the 1986. The technology challenge was to match resin viscosity, handling and cure with those for the polyester SMC to avoid any special processing for fabricators and end users. Phenolic SMC was chosen because of the ease of molding to the required shape with light- weight, thin wall structure and with excellent fire protection.

  • Data mining, which is also referred to as knowledge discovery in database, means a process of nontrivial extraction of implicit, previously unknown and potentially useful information (such as knowledge rules, constraints, regularities) from data in databases. The discovered knowledge can be applied to information management, decision making, and many other applications. In this paper, a new data mining problem, discovering sequential patterns, is proposed which is to find all sequential patterns using sampling method. Recognizing that the quantity of database is growing exponentially and transaction database is frequently updated, sampling method is a fast algorithm reducing time and cost while extracting the trend of customer behavior. This method analyzes the fraction of database but can in general lead to results of a very high degree of accuracy. The relaxation factor, as well as the sample size, can be properly adjusted so as to improve the result accuracy while minimizing the corresponding execution time. The superiority of the proposed algorithm will be shown through analyzing accuracy and efficiency by comparing with Apriori All algorithm.

  • The computational modeling and simulation of complex biological systems are indispensable for new knowledge extraction from huge experimental data and ever growing vast amount of information in systems biology. Moreover, gathering and sharing of the existing information and newly-generated knowledge can speed up this research process. In this regard, several modeling projects have been undertaken for quantitatively analyzing the biological systems via the internet. They include Virtual Cell, JWS and OBIYagns. We also develop an integrated web-based environment, which facilitate investigation of dynamic behavior of cellular systems.

  • Along with the development of imaging sensors, hyperspectral imaging technology is growing rapidly and contributing to many fields of science nowadays. However, the bulky size and complex structure make it difficult to be processed. Focused on in this paper is the clustering utility, implemented in HYVEW, a program involving tools and functions to manipulate with hyperspectral images. The clustering process aims to partition the surface of the imaged area into subregions by grouping the spectra subject to the similarity of spectra.
