Effects of Microbial Additive Supplementation on Meat Quality and Fatty Acid Profiles of Growing-Finishing Pigs

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of microbial additive on the meat quality and fatty acid (FA) profiles of growing-finishing pigs. A total of 180 growing-finishing pigs (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc; mixed sex; 14 weeks of age; 58.0 ± 1.00 kg) were randomly distributed into three treatments with three pens consisting of 20 growing-finishing pigs per pen for 60 days. The experimental treatments were as follows: 0, 0.5, and 1.0% microbial additive. The crude protein, cooking loss, drip loss, water holding capacity, and shear force in loin muscle were no significant differences among treatments (p>0.05), except for the moisture and crude fat contents. The pH and TBARS of loin muscle shown no significant differences among treatments (p>0.05). However, the L* and a* values of loin muscle were the highest in the 1.0% supplementation group compared with the other treatments (p<0.05). The b* value of loin muscle was the highest in the control group compared with the other treatments (p<0.05). Linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, and n-3 FAs contents of loin muscle were the highest in 1.0% supplementation group compared with the other treatments (p<0.05). In conclusion, using 1.0% microbial additive supplementation can improve meat quality by increasing polyunsaturated FA concentration and meat color in pig loins.

논토양에서 돈분톱밥퇴비 시용량 결정에 관한 연구 (Determination of Application Rate of Composted Pig Manure for Wetland Rice)

  • 가축분퇴비와 화학비료 혼용시 시비량 결정의 기초자료를 얻기 위하여 토양검정에 의한 NPK구를 대조구로 하였고, 돈분톱밥퇴비중 인산함량을 감안하여 시용한 돈분톱밥퇴비+NK 2수준 돈분톰밥퇴비와 토양검정에 의한 화학비료 시비량을 시용한 돈분톱밥퇴비10톤 및 20톤+NPK와 무비구를 포함한 6처리로 하여 사양토에서 포장시험을 수행한 결과는 다음과 같다. 벼 생육시기별 경수는 NPK구가 분얼기와 유수형성기에서 많았으나, 출수기에는 돈분10톤 및 20톤+NPK구에서 많았으며, 돈분2.1톤 및 4.2톤+NK구에서는 전 생육기간 동안 적은 경향이었으며, 식물체의질소, 인산 및 칼리흡수량은 돈분20톤+NPK구에서 많았고, 질소이용율은 NPK구, 인산 및 칼리이용율은 각각 돈분2.1톤+NK구, 돈분4.2톤+NK구에서 높았고, 정조수량은 돈분20톤+NPK>돈분10톤+NPK>돈분4.2톤+NK>NPK>돈분2.1톤+NK구 순이었으나, 돈분4.2톤+NK구와 돈분10톤 및 20톤+NPK구의 수량은 유의차가 없었다. 생육시기별 토양중 암모니아태질소, 유효인산 및 치환성칼륨 함량은 각 처리 모두 분얼초기에 가장 높았고, 유수형성기에서 수확기까지는 낮은 상태로 유지되었으며, 분얼초기 토양의 각 성분합량은 돈분20톤 +NPK구에서 가장 많았으며, 토심별 유효인산함량의 분포는 돈분톰밥퇴비 시용량이 증가할수록0~20cm에서 많았으나 치환성양이온함량은 40~60cm에서 돈분10톤 및20톤+NPK구가 맡았다. 질소, 인산, 칼리의 손실량은 NPK구, 돈분2.1톤 및 돈분4.2톤+NK구에서 적었으나, 돈분10톤 및 20톤+NPK구에서 매우 많았으며, 투입량이 탈취량보다 적은 처리는 인산의 경우 돈분2.1톤+NK, 칼리는 NPK, 돈분4.2톤+NK구이었다. 돈분10톤 및 20톤+NPK처리시 투입량 과다로 인한 양분의 손실량이 매우 많았으며, 돈분20톤+NPK처리시 정조수량은 다소 높았지만도복과 도열병이 발생하였고. 돈분4.2톤+NK폭리시양분의 손실량이 적으면서 수량은 대조구와 비슷한 결과를 볼 때, 돈분톱밥퇴비를 $4.2Mg\;ha^{-1}$ 시용하고 퇴비중 양분함량을 고려하여 화학비료로서 조절시용 할 경우 수량 환경 경제성면에서 적절할 것으로 판단된다.

국내 가축분뇨 혐기소화시설 현황 및 운영실태 분석 (Status of Anaerobic Digestion Facility for Pig-slurry in Korea)

  • This study was conducted to survey and inspect the currently operating anaerobic digestion facilities for animal manure. Recently, the number of anaerobic digestion facility for livestock manure is on the rise thanks to growing interest in developing alternative energy. A anaerobic digestion system has been constructed in large scale farms or animal manure public resource center. Currently, most animal manure anaerobic digestion facilities in operation are producing biogas from the pig slurry which contains 97% water. Methane gas can be used to operate a engine generator which then produces electricity. Anaerobic digestate, a by-product of digestion, is mostly utilized as a liquid fertilizer after curing processing. Only in a few cases, it can be discharged after wastewater treatment process. The problem of anaerobic digestate treatment is the imbalance of C/N ratio. The content of N was too high to keep it into normal process.

  • 미성숙난자 성장과 핵성숙을 성공적으로 유도할 수 있는 체외 배양체계의 개발은 난자발생과정 등 기초 생리학 연구에 도움을 줄 뿐만 아니라, 산업적으로 필요한 난자를 공급해 줄 수 있다는 데 그 의의가 있다. 최근 보고에 따르면 성장 중에 있는 생쥐 난포란은 체외배양과 체외수정과정을 거쳐 산자 생산가지 가능하지만 돼지 난포란 성숙을 위해서는 좀더 고려해야 할 사항들이 있다. 즉, 난성숙 배양액에 낮은 농도의 FSH 첨가는 난자와 과립세포의 생존성을 유지시키고, Hypoxanthine의 첨가는 난성숙율의 향상에 도움을 준다고 한다. 따라서 금후 생쥐난자에서 얻어진 결과들을 기초로 하여 돼지 난포란의 성장과 성숙에 적합한 배양체계의 개발연구에서 괄목할만한 진전이 있다면 대가축들의 난포란 성숙기술을 개발하는데 큰 도움을 줄 것이라고 본다.

Research trends in outdoor pig production - A review

  • Since the industrialization of swine production in the late 1900s, swine farms in the United States, as well as in Europe, have largely become consolidated. Pig farms became larger in size but fewer in number, with 91% of market pigs being produced by large operations with 5,000 or more pigs on-site in the US, and only 3% of the total utilized agricultural land representing organic farming. Such change in the market made it difficult for small farmers to stay competitive, forcing them to find alternative ways to reduce the cost of production and increase profit using the outdoor production system. In contrast to the indoor confinement system, outdoor production system uses pasture-based units and/or deep-bedded hoop structures that promote animal welfare and environmental sustainability with a lower capital investment. In accord with the growing concern for animal and environmental welfare and food safety by the consumers, small farmers practicing an outdoor production system are seeing increased opportunities for marketing their products in the pork niche market. Unlike the general belief that the reproductive and growth performance measures of the outdoor sows and piglets are poorer in comparison with the animals reared indoors, studies showed that there was no significant difference in the performance measures, and some traits were even better in outdoor animals. Improved reproductive and production traits can increase the sustainability of outdoor farming. Present study reviewed the recent studies comparing the performance measures, meat quality and health of indoor and outdoor animals, as well as the efforts to improve the outdoor production system through changes in management such as hut types and breed of animals.

혈청역학적 분석을 통한 한국의 돼지 유행성 설사병 바이러스 장염양상 (Infection Patterns of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) by Sera-epidemiological Analysis in Korean Pig Farms)

  • To investigate the infection patterns of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) in Korean pig farms, a total of 4,768 swine sera samples from 159 pig farms were taken twice, in June (n=82) and October (n=77) in 2007. In each farm selected for the survey, 10 samples from breeding pigs and 4 from each of the 5 age groups (30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 days) were taken, and all serum samples were tested for PEDV by the serum neutralization test. The overall seroprevalence was 62.6% (2,983/4,768), with the highest prevalence in breeding pigs (93.5%, 1,485/1,589). The prevalence showed an increasing trend with increasing age (30.8, 27.2, 44.7, 61.6, and 71.2% respectively in the 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 days age groups) (p<0.0001 for $x^2$ trend test). The association between age and PEDV prevalence was similar in both surveys, indicating that the infection of PEDV seemed to be occurring repeatedly in the farms surveyed. This inference could also be explained by the fact that prevalence in sows was very high despite low vaccination coverage, as they are continuously exposed to PEDV in potentially infected farms for a longer period. Based on the neutralizing antibody levels in sows and growing pigs, the majority of farms (91.8%, n=146 farms) were endemically infected with PEDV, and most of pigs seemed to be intensively infected with PEDV at around early growth (41.8%) and weaning (31.5%). On the other hand, serum neutralizing antibodies were not detected in pigs older than 30 days of age in farms classified as having no PEDV infection (n=13 farms), indicating the level of maternal antibody against PEDV is decreased on a non-detectable level before the piglet is 60 days old in the field situation. The results indicated that most farms surveyed in 2007 were affected with endemic PEDV infection. Therefore, a national monitoring and control program for the endemic type PEDV infection needs further attention.

경남지역 내 돼지에서의 swine influenza virus (H1N1, H3N2) 감염률 조사 (Seroprevalence survey of swine influenza virus (H1N1, H3N2) in pigs in Gyeongnam area)

  • Swine influenza is an acute respiratory disease prevalent in pig-growing areas all around the world and plays the roles of an intermediate host to be transmitted to mammals including human beings through a genetic recombination with the avian influenza virus. Recognizing that people could be contracted with swine influenza, this study set out to investigate the seroprevalence of individual and multiple infections with two subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) of the swine influenza virus in pig farms in the Gyeongnam region according to age, area, and season, as well as to provide basic data for the prevention and control of swine influenza. Used in the study were total 904 swine sera that were not vaccinated against the influenza gathered from the pig farms in the Gyeongnam region from November, 2009 to October, 2010. HerdChek SIV (H1N1, H3N2) ELISA kit (IDEXX Laboratories, USA) was used for antibody testing against swine influenza. The test results show that 370 sera (40.9%) were infected with either H1N1 or H3N2 with 37.3% (337 sera) being contracted with H1N1, 13.1% (118 sera) with H3N2, and 9.4% (85) with both H1N1 and H3N2.

양돈 사료에 있어 대두의 이용 (Utilization of Soybean for Swine Diets)

  • 대두박은 가축사료에 사용되는 식물성 단백질원이다. 대두박은 대두에서 기름을 추출한 부산물로서 높은 단백질 함량과 낮은 섬유질 함량을 가지고 있어 양돈 사료에서 널리 이용되고 있다. 그러나 이러한 대두는 여러 종류의 항영양인자를 가지고 있어 소화율과 성장능력을 감소시키는 단점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 열처리하는 방법, HP 100, HP 200 및 HP 300과 같이 미생물을 이용한 방법, 수용성 비단백질 구성성분을 제거하는 방법, 정제대두단백과 비단백태화합물 제거 등의 방법을 이용하고 있다. 대두를 적당히 열처리를 하면 대부분의 항영양인자가 파괴되어 성돈에서 피해가 없지만 어린돼지에서는 영양소 소화율을 감소시킨다. 그래서 자돈에서는 유제품과 유사한 사양능력을 가지는 농축대두단백이나 정제대두단백 같은 가공대두제품을 이용하여 급여해야 한다.

Seroprevalence of selected porcine respiratory pathogens in the pig herds in Chungcheong and Gyeongsang provinces in Korea

  • We studied the seroprevalence of four respiratory pathogens in Korean swine farms located in Chungnam, Chungbuk, Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk provinces during the period of spring of 2007 to winter of 2008. Serological tests were performed using commercial ELISA kits. A total of 530 serum samples were tested for the antibodies against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M. hyo) and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (APP). Seroprevalence for four respiratory pathogens were estimated by ELISA-positive rates of the submitted samples. The overall seropositive rates of PRRSV, APP, M. hyo and PCV2 were 32.6%, 10.6%, 38.4% and 88.5%, respectively. By production stage, the seropositive rate for PRRSV was highest in nursery pig populations (46.2%). In contrast, the highest seropositive rates of APP and M. hyo were observed in sow and growing pigs. However, the seroprevalence of PCV2 was ranged from 85.7% to 89.6%, showing no significant difference among the production stages. In the seroprevalence by season, PRRSV, APP and M. hyo infections revealed typical seasonal patterns that the peaks of the seropositive rates were observed between early winter and late spring. In case of PCV2, no particular seasonal patterns were noticed. The pig herds in Gyeongbuk province where PMWS was endemic during the period of survey showed the highest seropositive rates for PRRSV (44.6%), M. hyo (47.5%), and PCV2 (92.7%). Seropositive rates for APP of four provinces were approximately 10%. These results might be valuable for control and prevention of the respiratory diseases and helpful to define strategies related to vaccine applications.

  • 최근, 축산 농가에서 돈사 내 개별 돼지들의 자동 영상 모니터링 기법이 중요한 이슈로 떠오르고 있다. 현재까지 이를 위한 다양한 연구들이 소개되어 왔지만, 아직도 추가적인 연구 노력이 요구된다. 특히, 혼잡한 돈방에서 움직이는 근접한 돼지들의 객체 식별을 위한 연구가 영상처리 분야 입장에서 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 감시카메라 환경에서 움직이는 근접한 돼지들의 객체 식별을 위한 해법으로써 시공간 정보와 영역 확장 기법을 이용한 효율적인 영상 분할 방법론을 새롭게 제안한다. 실제로 세종에 위치한 한 돈사에서 취득한 영상 정보를 이용하여 본 논문에서 제안한 시스템의 성능을 실험적으로 검증하였다.
