  • Foundation of tower structures such as wind turbine, pylon, and chimney have to resist considerably large overturning moment due to long distance from foundations to load point and large horizontal load. Pile foundations subjected to uplift force are needed to economically support such structure even in the case of rock layer. Therefore, this research performed the laboratory model tests with the variables, W/C ratio and sand proportion, to evaluate the effect of the mix proportion of grouting material on shaft resistance. In the case of cement paste, maximum and residual shaft resistance were distributed in uniform range irrespective of the changes of W/C ratio. However in the case of mortar, they were decreased with increasing W/C ratio, while they were increased and then decreased with increasing sand proportion. In the case of no sand, the maximum shaft resistance was about 540~560kPa regardless of the W/C ratio. When the sand proportion was 40%, it was about 770~870kPa depending on W/C ratio, which was about 40~50% higher than that without sand. The optimum proportion found in this research was around 40% of sand proportion and 80~100% of W/C ratio.

  • This research has focused on comparing the capacity predicted by the theoretical formula with the one measured by field load tests to examine characteristics of the bearing capacity of a helical pile. The helical pile is featured by a central shaft with one or more helical-shaped bearing plates. Being established by a small rotary attached to an excavator that applies toque, the helical piles can be readily constructed at narrow sites, especially in an urban area with relatively less noise than the others requiring driving and excavation. Although many cases of the helical pile constructions can be recently found, the bearing capacity of the pile has been limitedly studied. To this end, this contribution analyzes and presents comprehensive results of the ten field loading tests with an application of different parameters depending on joint condition and specification of the helical piles, and types of tests and grouting.

  • In order to reduce negative skin friction uses bitumen most plentifully. But, Bitumen is expensive very of 1.5 or more times of pile material expense. The bitumen will be able to substitute it is nescessary. It was researched that it would be able to bitumen substitutions from in products which is produced from domestic in this study. This was composed with most bentonite, added some cement. When it is used this product in the model test, the reduction ratio appear of 85% or more. In this result, this product as the reduction material is confirmed that has enough ability. Additional research leads, the product according to pile construction method must verify the reduction effect of negativ skin friction in field test.

  • As environmental problem in course of construction has been a matter of interest, noise and vibration in the process of piling are considered as a serious problem. For this reason, the use of SIP method inserting pile as soon as boring and cement grouting is rapidly increasing for preventing vibration and noise. But a resonable bearing capacity formula for SIP method does not exit and even the standard specification for domestic condition isn't formed, though the lateral friction between cement paste and the ground does an important role and boring depth largely influences to the design bearing capacity, applying the SIP method . Therefore, the lateral friction was analyzed after the direct shear test worked with the lateral face of SIP and the soil.

  • To find the soil plug of steel piles shaped by jet grouting, 4 blocks of cement milk with cube of 1.2m were made. 4 open-ended steel piles on the blocks were rested. The inner end part of 2 the piles was not reinforced. Cement milk 65%(SIG-1) and 100%(RJP-1) were filled into the block and height of 4.2 times of inner the pile diameter respectively. And the other the piles were welded 2 steel ring. The filling of the cement milk was an equal method as before(SIG-2 and RJP-2). Also the strain gauges were installed and the static pile load tests were done at the piles all. As a result, list in great order for effect of soil plug was (1)SIG-1, (2)SIG-2, (3)RJP-1, (4)RJP-2. This is because of strength and filling height of cement milk. And the higher the strength is, the greater the confining coefficient is.

  • 2-D and 3-D resistivity surveys were carried out at the Deok-In2 levee during the period of arid and rainy seasons to assess the waterproof effectiveness of sheet pile and grouting sections and detect the location of pipings. Inverted resistivity sections clearly indicated the boundaries of sheet pile and grouting sections and the locations of pipings observed at the ground surface. Besides, GPR survey was carried out to verify the rear cavity of culvert in levee which is thought to be the major cause of levee breakdown, But the quality of GPR data was very poor due to the steel reinforcements buried in the culvert. Because it is not easy to apply various geophysical surveys upon concrete structures, newly designed hydraulic response test was proposed to assess the continuity of rear cavity of culvert in this study.

  • In this study to improve stability, workability and economics of the H-Pile+Earth plate or H-Pile+Earth plate+Cutoff grouting currently in use, we had developed HCS method belonging to the retaining wall which is consisting of a combination H-Pile, Plastic Sheet Pile and Steel Square Pipe for gap maintenance and reinforcement of flexible plastic Sheet Pile, and the behavior of each member composing HCS method is investigated by three-dimensional finite element analysis. To numerically analyze the behavior of the HCS method, we have performed extensive three-dimentional finite element analysis for three kinds of plastic Sheet Pile size, two kinds of H-Pile size and three kinds of H-Pile installation interval, one kinds of Steel Square Pipe and three kinds of Steel Square Pipe installation interval. After analyzing the numerical results, we found that the combinations of $P.S.P-460{\times}131.5{\times}7t$ (PS7) and H-Pile $250{\times}250{\times}9{\times}14$ (H250), $P.S.P473{\times}133.5{\times}9t$ (PS9) and H-Pile $300{\times}200{\times}9{\times}14$ (H300) is the most economical because these combinations are considered to have a stress ratio (=applied stress/allowable stress) close to that as the stiffness of H-Pile, plastic Sheet Pile and Steel Square Pipe composite increased, the horizontal displacement of the retaining wall and the vertical displacement of the upper ground decreased. Especially, due to the arching effects caused by the difference in stiffness between H-Pile and plastic Sheet Pile, a large part of the earth pressure acting on plastic Sheet Pile caused a stress transfer to H-Pile, and the stress and displacement of plastic Sheet Pile were small. Through this study, we can confirm the behavior of each member constituting the HCS method, and based on the confirmed results of this study, it can be used to apply HCS method in reasonable, stable and economical way in the future.

  • Recenlty, there are many cases that structures are constructed on soft ground in domestic. Generally in those cases, appropriate geotechnical techniques for the ground are needed. In this study, an example for ground improvement of OO railroad station construction site is introduced and analyzed. The ground conditions of this site which is soft ground are that N value is under 6, average depth and ground water table is 24.4m, GL-1.7. So, as a countermeasure technique for bearing reinforcement, Compaction Grouting System (CGS) method was applied on construction site. To estimate the application of CGS method, piezo cone penetration test and static pile loading test were carried out during the construction. Results of analysis show that CGS method for improving the bearing capacity of soft ground is applicable for the ground well.

  • Grounds of the western coast of the Korean Peninsular are mostly composed of soft and cohesive soils, and it is necessary to carry out soil improvement before construction. The CGS (Compaction Grouting System) method has been commonly applied for the purpose of not only improving soft ground but also serving as the pile foundation of a bridge. In this paper, the CGS method was applied to the Incheon International Airport facility site, which consists of reclaimed landfill and soft clay soil, so as to evaluate the applicability of this soil improvement method to soft clay ground formations. Futhermore, results of construction were intensively studied along with a series of field experiments and theoretical consideration. The cone penetration tests were performed to assess the ground improvement effect of the CGS method. Consequently, the application of CGS method led to an increase in soil strength enough to be used as the pile foundation to support the bridge at the site. In addition, the size of the upper grout-bulb was estimated by adopting the cavity expansion theory and compared with that of actual grout bulb exhumed in the field. Therefore, it is proved that the cavity expansion theory can be utilized to predict and evaluate the improvement of soft ground.
