Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the effects of subliminal music with balance imagery training on balance and concentration. Methods: The participants were 45 seniors in an undergraduate school in Korea. The subliminal music with balance imagery training intervention was carried out for 20 minutes. Other interventions were also carried out for 20 minutes. 12 seniors(Group A) listened to subliminal music with balance imagery training, 12 seniors(Group B) listened to subliminal music, 11 seniors(Group C) received balance imagery training, and 10 seniors(Group D) had no intervention(Control group). The grid test is related to measured levels of concentration intensity. Romberg one legged standing test was carried out for 30 seconds. The collected data was analyzed by one-paired t test and one way ANOVA using the SPSS Windows 12 ver. program. Results: The major findings of this study were as follows: Concentration levels of Group A and C improved, and balance levels of Group C and D improved. There was a statistically significant decrease in concentration between Group A and B, Group A and C after intervention. Conclusion: These findings suggest that listening to subliminal music with balance imagery training may be useful in managing concentration in seniors. So it provides basic information for further concentration on improving education on music with balance imagery training.
Purpose : The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of circuit weight training and aerobic exercise on the bodily formation and abdominal fat area of obese female college students. Methods : The female college students whose BMI is over $25kg/m^2$ were divided into the circuit weight training group and the aerobic exercise group and circuit weight training and aerobic exercise were conducted on the respective group five times a week. Resultlts : 1. The tendency of statistically significant reduction in weight, body fat percentage, and BMI was shown in both the circuit weight training group and the aerobic exercise group but there were no significant differences between these groups. 2. The tendency of statistically significant reduction in total abdominal fat area, and subcutaneous fat area was shown in both the circuit weight training group and the aerobic exercise group but there were no significant differences between these groups. 3. Visceral fat area was reduced more in the aerobic exercise group than in the circuit weight training group Conclusion : It was confirmed that exercise alone in the state of no dietary treatment being given could cause obese people bodily formation.
The purpose of this study was to develope the Complete Airway Obstruction Maneuver Training Program and identify its effects on learning motivation, knowledge and skill of choking management in the primary school students. The subjects for the experimental group of 38 students and the control group of 39 students, all of whom are primary school students in Gwangju, the Republic of Korea. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used and data were collected from November to December, 2003. During about 2 weeks, 2 times for a week with 80 minutes at a time, the complete airway obstruction maneuver training program was conducted in the experimental group. Experimental data were analyzed through SPSS/win 11.0 PC+, and the tests examining general characteristics between the experimental group and the control group were conducted through $x^2$-test. Purpose: This study is to investigate if the effectiveness training program, suggested by Gordon(1970), could help these nursing students with the problems of interpersonal relationship and self-identification. Method: This study was designed using nonequivalent control group protest-posttest design. The subject for this study were thirty nursing students. Fifteen nursing students of the experimental group experienced the Effectiveness Training for 8 weeks (3 hours/week). The effect of Effectiveness Training was measured using Relationship Change Scale devised by Lee, H.D. & Moon, S.M.(1979) and Ego Identity Scale devised by Dignan(1965) which was translated by Seo, B.Y.(1975) Pretest data were collected by the researcher from both experimental and control group before training. After the end of eight weeks training, posttest data collected from both experimental and control group. Samples were analyzed using SPSS PC+. Result: 1. The first hypothesis, "level of interpersonal relationship of the experiment group after 8 weeks will be significantly higher than that of the control group"(z=-1.965, p=.049)was supported. 2. The second hypothesis, "level of ego-identity of the experimental group after 8 weeks will be significantly higher than that of the control group"(z=-2.191, p=.028)was supported. 3. The third hypothesis, "level of interpersonal relationship of the experiment group will be significantly higher than that of the control group after 4 months of training"(z=-.634, p=.238)was not supported. 4. The fourth hypothesis, "level of ego-identity of the experimental group will be significantly higher than that of the control group after 4 months of training"(z=-.292, p=.642)was not supported. Conclusion: The Effectiveness Training can be considered as an effective method of nursing students's interpersonal relationship & ego-identity, because it was proved to help nursing students increase level of their interpersonal relationship & ego-identity but it was needed to reinforce for continuing of the effect of the interpersonal relationship & ego-identity.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of treadmill gradient training on lower limb muscle activity in chronic stroke patients. The subject were 32 stroke patients.. Subjects were randomly divided into three group which were control group($0^{\circ}$treadmill training(n=10)) and experimental group($5^{\circ}$treadmill training (n=10) and $10^{\circ}$treadmill training(n=12)). Three groups received treadmill gradient training for 30 minutes while 3 times per week for 6 weeks in addition to conventional physical therapy. Muscle strength was measured by EMG on rectus femoris, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior and gastrocnenius for muscle activities. In comparison of activity of rectus femoris and gastrocnemius between pre and post value, the activity of rectus femoris was significant in the experimental and control group(p<.05) and the activity of biceps femoris was significant in the $5^{\circ}$treadmill gait training group and $10^{\circ}$treadmill gait training group(p<.05). The activity of tibialis anterior was significant in the $5^{\circ}$treadmill gait training group and $10^{\circ}$treadmill gait training group(p<.05). In comparison of the difference of activity of rectus femoris among 3 groups, there was a significant difference between the $5^{\circ}$treadmill gait training group and control group(p<.05). and difference of activity of tibialis anterior was significant difference between the $10^{\circ}$treadmill gait training group and control group(p<.05). These findings suggest that $5^{\circ}$treadmill gait training group and $10^{\circ}$treadmill gait training group can be used to improve lower limb muscle activity in chronic stroke patient. In conclusion, these treadmill gradient training helped improving function of gait ability in chronic stroke patient.
This study was a quasi-experimental study to confirm the effects of a memory training program. The purpose was to develop an effective memory training program for elderly people and to identify the effects of the memory training program. This study was carried out between February 25 and July 20, 1999 and the subjects of the study were 102 elderly people who were participants at a welfare institute in Seoul. The experimental group (51) and the control group (51) were assigned by means of participation order. The control group was matched to the experimental group and was selected considering age, sex, and religion. The experimental group participated in the memory training program. The memory training program was based on the literature of Fogler & Stern (1994), Wang & Lee (1990), Lee (1991) and Lee (1993). The memory training program was given twice a week for two weeks with each program lasting two hours. Depression was measured using the Geriatric Depession Scale developed by Sheikh & Yesavage(1986) and memory self-Efficacy was measured using the Memory Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Berry & Dennehey (1989). Data were analyzed by SPSS PC and the results are described below. 1. The experimental group which participated in the Memory Training Program showed lower depression scores as compared to the control group(t=-4.310, P=.000). 2. The experimental group which participated in the Memory Training Program showed higher higher memory self-efficacy scores as compared to the control group(t=4.354, P=.000). 3. In the experimental group, there was significant negative correlation between the depression scores and memory self-efficacy scores. The results showed that the Memory Training Program is an effective nursing intervention for the elderly with depression and memory problems.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify whether inclined treadmill gait training with rhythmic auditory simulation (RAS) could improve on balance and gait in stroke patients. Method: Fifteen stroke patients who had agreed with the study were allocated to the group 1(n=5), group 2(n=5), or group 3(n=5). The group 1, group 2 and group 3 performed RAS with inclined treadmill gait training, inclined treadmill gait training and treadmill without incline gait training respectively for 3 weeks (30 minutes per session, 5 times in a week). The balance was assessed using Timed Up & Go (TUG) and Berg Balance Sale (BBS), and the gait was evaluated using 6 Minutes Walking Test (6MWT) and spatio-temporal walking variables as walking speed, cadence, Single Limb Support of affected side(SLS) and Symmetric Index(SI) before and after training. Result: Both the group 1 and group 2 showed significant improvement after training in all variables of balance and gait. The group 3 showed significant improvement in TUG values, 6MWT values, walking speed, cadence and SI. The changes in the group 1 were significantly greater in all dependent variables of balance and gait than those of the group 2 and group 3. The changes in the group 2 were significantly greater in TUG values, BBS scores, 6MWT values, walking speed, and cadence than those of the group 3. Conclusion: The result of this study show inclined treadmill gait training with RAS is more effective to improve balance and gait in stoke patients than inclined treadmill or general treadmill gait training without RAS.

Background and Objectives: There is a scant evidence on the use of simulations in audiology (especially in Malaysia) for case-history taking, although this technique is widely used for training medical and nursing students. Feedback is one of the important components in simulations training; however, it is unknown if feedback by instructors could influence the simulated patient (SP) training outcome for case-history taking among audiology students. Aim of the present study is to determine whether the SP training with feedback in addition to the standard role-play and seminar training is an effective learning tool for audiology case-history taking. Subjects and Methods: Twenty-six second-year undergraduate audiology students participated. A cross-over study design was used. All students initially attended two hours of seminar and role-play sessions. They were then divided into three types of training, 1) SP training (Group A), 2) SP with feedback (Group B), and 3) a non-additional training group (Group C). After two training sessions, the students changed their types of training to, 1) Group A and C: SP training with feedback, and 2) Group B: non-additional training. All the groups were assessed at three points: 1) pre-test, 2) intermediate, and 3) post-test. The normalized median score differences between and within the respective groups were analysed using non-parametric tests at 95% confidence intervals. Results: Groups with additional SP trainings (with and without feedback) showed a significantly higher normalized gain score than no training group (p<0.05). Conclusions: The SP training (with/without feedback) is a beneficial learning tool for history taking to students in audiology major.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of balance using ankle strategy during adjusted balance training and muscle training in normal young female adults. Methods: There were eighteen participants. All subjects were randomly assigned to three groups, the control group (n=6), the adjusted balance training group (n=6) and the muscle training group (n=6). Subjects were assessed for each subject by a pretest and a posttest at 1 week, 2 weeks, and 3 weeks, measuring the anterior-posterior limit of stability, trace length and EMG data for the tibialis anterior and lateral gastrocnemius. Results: The anterior-posterior limit of stability significantly increased in the training group (p<0.05). The trace length significantly decreased in the training group (p<0.05). The muscle activity of the tibialis anterior and lateral gastrocnemius also significantly decreased in the training group (p<0.05). Conclusion: We confirmed that both the balance training group and the muscle training group significantly increased the anterior-posterior limit of stability and decreased trace length and muscle activity. Further studies are needed to analyze the long-term effects on subjects resulting from these changes.
