Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an aging management program on the resilience and successful aging of middle-aged women. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control and pre-post test design was used. The participants were 39 middle-aged women living in urban areas in Korea. The experimental group (n=22) received the aging management program for a total of 10 weeks, 90 minutes to 120 minutes per week. The aging management program consisted of strategies to enhance the behavior, promotion conditions, and habits of the program, including various activities for middle-aged women. The data were analyzed using χ2 tests, independent t-tests, and repeated measures analysis of variance with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The resilience score of the experimental group was significantly higher level than the score of the control group in the time-to-group interactions (F=3.70, p=0.029). The successful aging score of the experimental group was significantly higher than the score of the control group in the time-to-group interactions (F=5.86, p=0.004). However, the sub-hypotheses of resilience (self-regulation and interpersonal relationships) and successful aging (physical aging adaptation and psychological age adaptation) were partially accepted. Conclusions: The aging management program for middle-aged women was identified as an effective intervention for promoting resilience and successful aging in middle-aged women. Therefore, this suggests that the aging care program could be a useful intervention program to improve the mental health of middle-aged women living in communities.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a self-management program on self-efficacy and quality of life for Korean women with rheumatoid arthritis. Methods: A quasi-experimental study using a nonequivalent control group pretest posttest design was used. The data were collected from July 1 to Sep. 15, 2007. Thirty one arthritis patients (15 in the experimental group and 16 in the control group) were participated in this study. A self-management program developed by Korean Society of Muscle and Joint Health in 1994 was used. The program was consisted of 6 sessions, 2 hours each and held every Friday for 6 weeks. General Self-Efficacy Scale and Quality of Life were used to test the effect of the program. Results: Hypothesis 1; "Self-efficacy in the experimental group after program would be higher than the control group" was supported. Hypothesis 2; "Quality of Life in the experimental group after program would be higher than the control group " was not supported. Conclusion: The self-management program was effective for Korean women with rheumatoid arthritis in terms of increasing self-efficacy. Therefore, to increase self-management skills and self-efficacy for female rheumatoid arthritis patients, the program can be useful.
Since many adolescents start and continue Smoking to cope with stress from school and home environments, peer pressure, and to compensate for lowered self-esteem The smoking prevention program should consist of the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding smoking and how to cope with these stresses. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a smoking prevention program on smoking related knowledge, attitudes, and self-esteem and stress in first year middle school students. The study was performed on a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest. 151 subjects(76 experimental group, 75 control group) were selected by a convenience sampling method. The study was carried out in two middle schools in Kwang-ju city, Korea, from the 1st of May to the 23rd of June, 2000. The experimental group attended the smoking prevention program which was held for 45 minutes a week for 4 weeks. The questionnaire was administered to measure the degree of knowledge, attitudes, self-esteem and stress of the subjects. The SAS-PC program was used to analyze the data along with peroentages, $x^2$-test. t-test, and paired t-test. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The first hypothesis, 'The experimental group who receives a smoking prevention program would have higher scores of smoking related knowledge than the control group', was supported(t=3.68, p=0.0003). 2. The second hypothesis, 'The experimental group who receives a Smoking prevention program would have more positive attitudes regarding smoking than the control group', was supported(t=3.42, p=0.0008). 3. The third hypothesis, 'The experimental group who receives a smoking prevention program would have higher scores of self-esteem than the control group', was supported(t=2.24, p=0.0270). 4. The forth hypothesis, "The experimental group who receives a smoking prevention program would have lower scores of stress than the control group', was supported(t=-2.07, p=0.0407). The smoking prevention program in this study was effective in increasing the knowledge regarding smoking, enhancing more positive attitudes regarding smoking, and also increasing the scores of self-esteem and lowering the scores of stress. The results of this study will be applicable in smoking prevention education for early adolescents in middle schools.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to apply the Basic CPR(Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training education program and identify its effects on knowledge of Basic CPR and skills of Basic CPR in second grade high school students. Methods: The training program was conducted for 16 weeks between March 26 and July 9, 2005 using a non-equivalent control group pretest-post test design by dividing 60 students in a half for both the experimental group and the control group. General characteristics, the effect of the education were evaluated with $x^2-test$, t-test, ANCOVA, Repeated Measure ANOVA and Bonferonni with SPSS 11.0/pc. Result: After the CPR education program application, knowledge score in the experimental group increased to 20.57 right after the education from 9.32, the score measured before the training, 19.11 after 8 weeks and 18.29 after 12 weeks. On the contrary, the control group's score showed no significant before the training. According to the result of knowledge score comparison between the experimental and control group at each point in time, the experimental group had a significantly high score in knowledge at every point(p<0.001). In the effect durability for knowledge of the training education program in process time after the training program in the experimental group, the durability of effect was identified despite the elapsing time. Scores of skills for Basic CPR increased from 1.21, the score measured before the training program, to 30.07 right after the education, 23.50 after 8 weeks and 17.57 after 12 weeks in experimental group. On the contrary, the control group showed an immaterial increase. According to the result of skill score comparison between the experimental and control group at each point in time, the experimental group had a significantly high score in skill at every point(p<0.001). The score for skill increased significantly right after the education compared to the score prior to the education. Conclusions: These findings suggest that Basic CPR training education program facilitate knowledge of CPR and skill of CPR in high school students. Therefore, it would be necessary to include the Basic CPR training program in high school education curriculum. However, the effect of Basic CPR knowledge maintains for a few period, and the effect of maintaining the skill is shorter than the maintenance of knowledge so regular reeducation is considered to be needed.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of low back pain relieving program on back muscle strength, intensity of pain, low back disability level in elementary school teachers who have low back pain. subjects were elementary school women teachers who worked at eight elementary school located in Seoul. Intended subjects size were seventy consist of thirty-four experimental group(three schools) and thirty-six control group(five schools), but actual subjects size was forty-four. Among the forty-four patients subjects, twenty-three were experimental group receiving health education about right postures, etiologies of low back pain, diagnosis of low back pain and exercise program composed of muscle strengthening exercise, stretching exercises and twenty-one were control group. During the 8 weeks program, the subjects were received two times education and six times group exercise practices in 1st week and three times per week group exercise practices, two times education in other 7 weeks. This study as carried out from April 1, 1999 to June 30, 1999. Back muscle strength was measured by back muscle strength measuring machine and the intensity of pain were measured by the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), and level of disability was measured by Oswestry low back pain disability scale. Study measurements were taken before and after 8 week exercise program. Data were analyzed using paired t-test, and ANCOVA. The results were summarized as follows. 1. After low back relieving program, back muscle strength was increased significantly(p=0.000) and there was significant difference in back muscle strength change between experimental group and control group(p=0.002). 2. After low back pain relieving program, pain on anterior bending, pain on posterior bending were decreased significantly than measurements before the program(p=0.000 p=0.000) and there was significant difference in pain on anterior bending and posterior bending change between experimental group and control group(p=0.000, p=0.000). 3. After low back pain relieving program, Oswestry disability scale scores were decreased significantly(p=0.000, p=0.000) but there was no significant difference in Oswestry disability score change between experimental group and control group.

The goal of this study was to assess the effect of a group exercise program on cognitive function of elderly people. Subjects were chosen to be elders with dementia having minor to moderate degrees of cognitive function. Study was started out by randomly dividing the 16 subjects into two groups, each with 8 people; the group exercise group and the control group. The group exercise group performed 8 weeks of group exercise program and general physiotherapy while the control group only performed general physiotherapy. Cognitive function was measured by Korean version mini-mental state examination. The study group's attention and calculation statistically significantly improved but the control group saw no statistically significant change. The group exercise program affected improvement in cognitive function of elderly people with dementia and in particular, was effective for enhancing their attention and calculation.
The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of the 8-week, 16-session group art therapy program on body image and self-esteem in college women. Method: Data collected by self-reported questionnaires from 58 college women in Inchon who were selected by criteria of this study, from the 6 of March to 10 of May, 2002. The 11 experimental group participated in a 8-week group art therapy program. Descriptive statistics, homogeneity test, hypothesis, and reliability test were performed statistically by utilizing SPSS PC+ 8.0 program. Result: 1. 'The experimental group showed significantly higher scores in body image than the comparison group. 2. No significant differences were found between two groups in self-esteem. Conclusion: The findings showed the possibility of applying group art therapy as an effective intervention for clients with negative body image to improve their body image.
The purposes of this study are to experiment a modified domestic conflict containment program (DCCP) which was initially development for developed by Dr, Neidig on 10 Korean offenders, and to provide practical basement for development of Korean offenders' group. This modified group program is based on cognitive-behavioral and communication theories. The group was leaded by 2 therapists, one female and one male, and continued 12 consecutive weeks, each week for 2 1/2 hours. The evaluation on the program is based on 4 different data: 1) intake form for spouse abuse, 2) group leader's summary on each session based on video taping and an analysis after each session with two probation officers in charge for the offenders, 3) clinical measurement for self esteem (ISE), 4) daily self report on each session and the final evaluation form by the group members. The result was shown consisently that this program achieved the purpose of this study across the all 4 data. Therefore, we suggest our experimental study will be able to provide a practical basement for future development of group treatment model for Korean offenders.
This study was carried out to identify the effects of an art therapy program based on reality therapy on the weight control, body image, and self-esteem of college students. The program was developed by the authors. The design was a pretest-post test control group design. The subjects were college students attending M college : 8 in experimental group A, 6 in experimental group 2, who wanted to control their body weight and 16 in the control group who didn't attend the program those in the experimental group attended the program once (group A) or twice (group B) per week meeting a total of six times. The data were analyzed by quantity method (SPSS 10.0 program) and quality method(process analysis). The results were as follows : 1. The average obesity index of pre-test, post-test, and a follow-up test decreased from 8.9% to 6.1%, 3.7%. And the rate of decrease both pre-post and post-follow up were statistically significant 2. The average obesity index of group A decreased from 9.6% to 6.3%, 4.1% and the rate of decrease between pre and post were statistically significant. But the rate of decrease between post and follow-up were statistically not significant 3. The average obesity index of group B decreased from 7.8% to 5.8%, 3.1% and the rate of decrease between pre and post were not significant statistically. But the rate of decrease between post and follow-up were statistically significant 4. The average scores of pre and post body image increased and were statistically significant : group A from 129.0 to 153.5, group B from 127.7 to 155.2. 5. The average scores of pre and post semantic differential method increased and were statistically significant: group A from 38.1 to 44.1, group B from 38.0 to 45.0. 6. The average scores of pre and post self-esteem increased: group A increased from 37.3 to 40.3 and were statistically significant, group B increased from 36.5 to 39.5 but was statistically insignificant 7. The average scores of pre and post obesity rate, body image, semantic differential method and self-esteem in the control group were not statistically significant 8. The pre and post scores of body image(p=.001), semantic differential method(p=.001) and self-esteem(p=.039) between experimental and control group were statistically significant. 9. In Duncan multiple comparison, it was not statistically significant between group A and B, but statistically significant between group A and the control group, group B and the control group in obesity index, body image, semantic differential method. There was no statistically significance among the three groups in self esteem 10. In Duncan multiple comparison, group A gained higher scores than group B in obesity index(-1.2%), and self esteem(0. 3). Group B gained higher scores than group A in body image(3. 0), and semantic differential method(1. 0). So it is difficult to conclude whether group A or B is more effective. In conclusion, the art therapy program based on reality therapy was effective in weight the control program of college students: obesity was decreased, the scores of body image and semantic differential method and self-esteem were increased. The scores of group A were increased more than group Band were statistically significant, The time interval was a very important factor in this program. The recommendation is : the validity of this program has to be tested through various subjects and in various areas. And also this program has to be tested in other topics.
