An artificial reef is a human-made underwater structure to improve marine environment and to provide a habitat for fish and other ocean wildlife. An artificial reef is placed on the ocean ground. In soft ground like most of the seabed soil, the ground has been settled due to weight of artificial reef. This study investigated the bearing capacity and settlement reduction effect of geosynthetics which were reinforced on the ground in a large size tank. Penetration tests and large soil tank laboratory tests were performed to investigate settlement reduction effect and bearing capacity on artificial reef with different spreading area of geogrid. Laboratory test results indicate that the spreaded geogrid under artificial reef reduce the settlement of ground and increase bearing capacity of ground.
Tunnel construction activity, conducted mainly in mountains and within urban centres, causes soil settlement, thus requiring the relevant management of slopes and structures as well as evaluations of risk and stability. Accordingly, in this study we performed a three-dimensional finite element analysis to examine the behaviour of piles and pile cap stability when a tunnel passes near the bottom of the foundation of a pile group connected by a pile cap. We examined the results via numerical analysis considering different conditions for reinforcement of the ground between the tunnel and the pile foundation. The numerical analysis assessed the angular distortion of the pile cap, pile settlement, axial force, shear stress, relative displacement, and volume loss due to tunnel excavation, and pile cap stability was evaluated based on Son and Cording's evaluation criterion for damage to adjacent structures. The pile located closest to the tunnel under the condition of no ground reinforcement exhibited pile head settlement approximately 70% greater than that of the pile located farthest from the tunnel under the condition of greatest ground reinforcement. Additionally, pile head settlement was greatest when the largest volume loss occurred, being approximately 18% greater than pile head settlement under the condition having the smallest volume loss. This paper closely examines the main factors influencing the behaviour of a pile group connected by a pile cap for three ground reinforcement conditions and presents an evaluation of pile cap stability.
Shield TBM tunneling method has been getting the spotlight for urban tunneling. It can be minimized the civil complaint during construction and possible safe tunneling. But the settlement has occurred inevitably due to characteristics of shield TBM equipment. For this reason, the civil complaint can occur in urban areas when tunnel with shallow depth passes through neighboring building or residential area. In this study, the occurrence factors of settlement according to shield TBM tunneling and the tendency of ground settlement by strata condition had analyzed. It is suggested that the practical settlement estimation method and minimizing method of ground settlement under simultaneous backfill grouting condition through measurement results and back analysis data using gap parameter.
In this thesis, from the results of settlement measurement performed at the site where embankment earthwork was carried out on the ground consisting of highly plastic and silty soft soils interlayered with organic deposits, various methods of predicting the embankment settlement such as Hoshino's method, Asaoka's method, hyperbolic method, ${\sqrt{s}}$ method and Monden's method were used to investigate their applicability and the inverse method of finding the soil parameter related to consolidation was used to predict the consolidation behavior in the future. It was confirmed that reliable prediction of consolidation behavior under various conditions could be done to estimate soil parameter related to consolidation such as the consolidation index and consolidation coefficient by the inverse method of comparing the measured settlement with the predicted value by the settlement prediction methods.
This study is conducted to minimize the problems caused by the difference between the settlement and settlement time of the one-dimensional consolidation analysis by the Terzaghi's consolidation theory, which is generally used in domestic soft soil design, from the settlement and settlement time measured at the field site. Consolidation-time factor considering the field site characteristics can be determined using the relationship among the degree of consolidation, settlement time, and time factor, the time-settlement curve measured at the field is reverse- analysis using a numerical-analysis technique to reproduce the same consolidation behavior as in the field. Time-settlement and time-excessive pore water pressure data when the same consolidation behavior as the site is reproduced Consolidation-time factor of the soil of Songsan Green City by settlement and excess pore water pressure was calculated using the settlement and excess pore water pressure for each settlement time. If the results of this study use the Terzaghi consolidation-time factor, which does not consider the consolidation characteristics of the soft ground target area, it is difficult to determine the end time of the soft ground during construction. It is necessary to use the established settlement-time factor.
In stability and settlement management of soft ground, the settlement prediction technology has been continuously developed and used to reduce construction cost and confirm the exact land use time. However, the preexistence prediction methods such as hyperbolic method, Asaoka method and Hoshino method are difficult to predict the settlement accurately at the beginning of consolidation because the accurate settlement prediction is possible only after many measurement periods have passed. It is judged as the reason for estimating the future settlement through the proportionality assumption of the slope which the preexistence prediction method computes from the settlement curve. In this study, ARIMA technique is introduced among time series analysis techniques and compared with preexistence prediction methods. ARIMA method was predictable without any distinction of ground conditions, and the results similar to the existing method are predicted early (final settlement).
As urbanization and industrialization increase development in downtown areas, damage due to ground settlement continues to occur. Building collapse in urban has a high risk of leading to large-scale damage to life and property. However, there has rarely been studied on measurement data analysis methods when uneven loads are applied to the excavated ground and no prior knowledge of the ground. Accordingly, it was attempted to analyze the relative settlement behavior and correlation by processing the time-series surface settlement of construction sites in the urban. In this paper, the average index of difference in settlement and average of relative difference in settlement are defined and calculated, then plotted in the coordinate system to analyze the relative settlement behavior over time. In addition, since there was no prior knowledge of the ground, a standard to classify the clusters was needed, and the observation points were classified into using k-means clustering and Dunn Index. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that all the clusters moved to the stable region as the settlement amount converges. The clusters were segmented. Based on the analysis results, it was possible to distinguish between the independent displacement area and same behavior area by analyzing the correlation between measurement points. If possible to analyze the relative settlement behavior between the stations and classify the behavior areas, it can be helpful in settlement and stability management, such as uplift of the surrounding area, prediction of ground failure area, and prevention of activity failure.

The demand for tunnel construction is increasing as part of underground space development due to urban saturation. The shield TBM method minimizes vibration and noise and minimizes ground deformation that occurs simultaneously with excavation, and shield TBM is generally applied to tunnel construction in urban areas. The importance of urban ground settlement prediction is increasing day by day, and in the case of shield TBM construction, ground deformation is minimized, but ground settlement due to tunnel excavation inevitably occurs. Therefore, in this study, the correlation between shield TBM, which is highly applicable to urban areas, and ground settlement is analyzed to suggest the shield TBM construction factors that have a major effect on ground settlement. Correlation analysis was performed between the shield TBM construction data and ground settlement measurement data collected at the actual site, and the degree of correlation was expressed as a correlation coefficient "r". As a result, the main construction factors of shield TBM affecting ground settlement were thrust force, torque, chamber pressure, backfill pressure and muck discharge. Based on the results of this study, it is expected to contribute to the presentation of judgment criteria for major construction data so that the ground settlement can be predicted and controlled in advance when operating the shield TBM in the future.
This paper presents a ground surface settlement prediction method for shield tunneling in cohesive soils. In order to develop the method, a parametric study on shield tunneling was performed by using a threetimensional elasto-plastic finite element analysis, which can simulate the construction procedure. By using the results of the finite element analysis, the ground movement mechanism was investigated and a base which relates the ground surface settlement and iuluencing factors was formed. The data base was then used to formulate semi -empirical equations for both surface settlement ratio above tunnel face and imflection point by means of a regression analysis. Furthermore, a prediction method for transverse and longitudinal surface settlement profiles was suggested by using the leveloped equations in conjunction with the normal probability curve. Effectiveness of the developed method was illustrated by comparing settlement profiles obtained by using the developed method with the results of finite element analysis and measured data. Based on the comparison, it was concluded that the developed method can be effectively rosed for practical applications at least within the conditions investigated.

When the structure is constructed on the soft ground, the embankment is settleed into the soft ground. At this time, the settlement of the structure is needed to predict. We are using bamboo mats construction only as a way of test construction. Under this circumstance, using the equation of Janbu and Perloff, we calculated the settlement, and analyzed the problem, suggesting proper theoretical equations showing the settlement of soft ground using bamboo mat. Using this equations the settlement was calculated and compared with the result of FEM. The result of the application was very close to the numerical value and the trend of theoretical equations. Using the existing equations, the settlement in Janbu's and Perloff's methods were calculated to be 40% of the actual settlement.
