The active earth pressure on the retaining wall is reduced by 3-Dimensional effects of the ground. Therefore, the test was focused on reducing the earth pressure on the retaining wall by inserting the vertical reinforcement in the backfill ground to develope the 3-Dimensional effects. Model tests in sand were peformed to measure the 3-Dimensional effects of the vertical reinforcement on the active earth pressure and its distribution and results were compared with the theories. The size of the vertical reinforcement, the geometry of the backfill space, and the wall friction of vertical reinforcement were varied. It was observed that the active earth pressure and its distribution on the underground structure were affected by the size of the vertical reforcements and wall friction.
In deep excavations for creation of underground spaces, it would be difficult to predict earth pressure, especially multilayered ground including rock strata. The earth pressures and displacements on the retention walls are measured by load cell, strain gauge and inclinometer which were installed at struts or anchors at 4 deep excavation sites in Seoul area. In this paper, the measured earth pressure from the struts or anchors are compared with Peck's empirical values, and the coefficient of the earth pressures for each strata and horizontal wall displacement are investigated. The coefficient of earth pressure distribution, a(0.65zka), in the flexible and the rigid walls was about 74% and 88% of Peck's value respecitively. The measured earth pressure distributions for the 4 sites showed about 70%∼80% of Peck's empirical values and the average earth pressure coefficients based on the measured data were 0.3 for the felted layer, 0.23 for the weathered rock and 0.19 for the weak rock. The maximum w리1 displacements were found to be less 0.2% of excavation depth.
Recently, the construction method of high pressure jet-grouting is in wide-use, for the purpose of structure foundation ground, reinforcing of ground behind propped retaining walls and cut-off in order to perform safe construction of underground excavation work. This study was performed a serious of tests of field permeability and unconfined compressive strength upon ground improved established on the ground behind propped retaining walls and examined proper jet mechanism by changing the construction parameter value of high pressure jet-grouting. In addition, we got the conclusion like the followings as a result of inspecting the condition of earth pressure distribution and deformation, using elasto-plastic method and FEM. 1. In that characteristics of strength of ground improved, with the same condition of construction parameter, unconfined compressive strength of sand gravel is shown bigger than that of silty sand by about 1.6 times and cut-off effect is shown to have effect of reducing the permeability of original ground by about 10$^{-2}$ ~10$^{-3}$ cm/s. 2. As a result of analysis of figures of horizontal displacing quantity of propped retaining walls materials regarding before and after High pressure jet- grouting through FEM, the reducing quantity of 0.1~0.3mm in maximum horizontal displacement is shown.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of joint mobilization on foot pressure, ankle moment, and vertical ground reaction force in subjects with ankle instability. Method: Twenty male subjects (age, $25.38{\pm}3.62yr$; height, $170.92{\pm}5.41cm$; weight, $60.74{\pm}9.63kg$; body mass index (BMI), $19.20{\pm}1.67kg/m^2$) participated and underwent ankle joint mobilization. Weight-bearing distribution, ankle dorsi/plantar flexion moment, and vertical ground reaction force were measured using a GPS 400 and a VICON Motion System (Oxford, UK), and subsequently analyzed. SPSS 20.0 for Windows was used for data processing and paired t-tests were used to compare pre- and post-mobilization measurements. The significance level was set at ${\alpha}$ = .05. Results: The results indicated changes in weight-bearing, ankle dorsi/plantar flexion moment, and vertical ground reaction force. The findings showed changes in weight-bearing distribution on the left (pre $29.51{\pm}6.31kg$, post $29.57{\pm}5.02kg$) and right foot (pre $32.40{\pm}6.30kg$, post $31.18{\pm}5.47kg$). There were significant differences in dorsi/plantar flexion moment (p < .01), and there were significant increases in vertical ground reaction forces at initial stance (Fz1) and terminal stance (Fz2, p < .05). Additionally, there was a significant reduction in vertical ground reaction force at midstance (Fz2, p < .001). Conclusion: Joint mobilization appears to alter weight-bearing distribution in subjects with ankle instability, with resultant improvements in stability.
This paper investigated the magnitude and distribution of earth pressure on the support system in jointed rock mass by considering different earth pressure coefficients, rock types and joint inclination angles. The study mainly focused on the effect of the earth pressure coefficients on the earth pressure. Based on a physical model test (Son & Park, 2014), extended studies were conducted considering rock-structure interactions based on the discrete element method, which can consider the joints characteristics of rock mass. The results showed that the earth pressure was highly influenced by the earth pressure coefficients as well as the rock type and joint inclination angles. The effects of the earth pressure coefficients increased when the rock suffered more weathering and has no joint slide. The test results were also compared with Peck's earth pressure for soil ground, and clearly showed that the earth pressure in jointed rock mass can be greatly different from that in soil ground. This study indicated the earth pressure coefficients considering the rock types and joint inclination angles are important parameters influencing the magnitude and distribution of earth pressure, which should be considered when designing the support systems in jointed rock mass.
Measurements of plantar pressure provide an indication of foot and ankle function during gait and other functional activities because the foot and ankle provide necessary support and flexibility for weight bearing and weight shifting while people are performing these activities. Plantar pressure is being increasingly used in both research and clinical practice to measure the effects of various footwear and physical therapy intervention. The influence of walking speed and ground inclination on plantar pressure parameters However has not been evaluated in detail. So, in this study to determine the effect of changes in walking speed and ground inclination on plantar pressure treadmills with different walking speeds and inclination were used. Plantar pressure parameters were measured with the Parotec system using the walking and running in 20 healthy participants(10 male, 10 female) aged $20{\sim}28$(mean 22.22, S.D.2.26 years) when slow walking and running. The result of this study with increased die walking speed, the peak pressure of 1st, 5th metatarsal head and total contact time and impulse total at the forefoot was affected by walking speed; however, die peak pressure, contact time and impulse total at the forefoot was not affected by ground inclination.

To investigate the influence of different burial conditions on the seepage characteristics of loose sandstone in the leaching mining of sandstone uranium ore, this study applied different ground pressures and water pressures to rock samples at different burial depths to alter the rock's seepage characteristics. The permeability, pore distribution, and particle distribution characteristic parameters were determined, and the results showed that at the same burial depth, ground pressure had a greater effect on the reduction in permeability than water pressure. The patterns and mechanisms are as follows: under the influence of ground pressure, increasing the burial depth compresses the pores in the rock samples, decreases the proportion of effective permeable pores, and causes particle fragmentation, which blocks pore channels, resulting in a decrease in permeability. Under the influence of water pressure, increasing the burial depth expands the pores but also causes hard clay particles to decompose and block pore channels. As the burial depth increases, the particles eventually decompose completely, and the permeability initially decreases and then increases. In this experiment, the relationships between permeability and the proportion of pores larger than 0.15 ㎛ and the proportion of particles smaller than 59 ㎛ were found to be the most significant.
In evaluating the stability of underground structures and designing prevention methods against the lateral flow, it is necessary to predict the amount and the distribution of the lateral earth pressure acting on these retaining structures. However, because the lateral deformation of real ground is a very complex phenomenon influenced by interaction between volumetric deformation bringing an increase of stability of ground and shear deformation causing failure of ground, any appropriate methods for estimating the lateral earth pressure in consideration of the geotechnical properties of ground and the construction conditions in embankment have not been developed as yet. Therefore, a prediction method, which considers effects of a construction speed of embankment, using the Boussinesq's solution based on the elasticity theory without using complex numerical analyses such as finite element analyses is proposed in this research.
This study examined the magnitude and distribution of earth pressure on the support system in a jointed rock mass due to the different joint spacing as well as varying the rock type and joint condition (joint shear strength and joint inclination angle). Based on a physical model test and its numerical simulation, a series of numerical parametric analyses were conducted using a discrete element method. The results showed that the magnitude and distribution of earth pressure were strongly affected by the different joint spacing as well as the rock type and joint condition. In addition, the study results were compared with Peck's earth pressure for soil ground, which indicated that the earth pressure in a jointed rock mass could be considerably different from that in soil ground. The study suggests that the joint spacing as well as the rock type and joint condition are important factors affecting the earth pressure in a jointed rock mass and they should be considered when designing a support system in a jointed rock mass.
This study was conducted to develop the mathematical model and computer simulation program(TPPMTV98) for predicting the tractive performance of tracked vehicles. It takes into account major design parameters of the vehicle as well as the pressure-sinkage and shearing characteristics of the soil, and the response of the soil to repetitive loading. Structural analysis and numerical iterative method were used for the derivation of mathematical model. The simulatiom model TPPMTV98 can predict the ground pressure distribution and the shear stress under a track, the motion resistance, the tractive effort and the drawbar pull of the vehicles as functions of slip. Predicted tractive performance results obtained by the simulation model were validated by comparing the results firm the Wong's model, the offectiveness of Wong's model validated by many of the experiment. It was found that there is fairy close agreement between the prediction by TPPMTV98 and the results from Wong's model. The computer simulation model TPPMTV98 can be used for the optimization of tracked vehicle design or for the evaluation of vehicle candidates for a given mission and environment.
