HDD용 Glass Disk의 ELID 연삭 성능 평가 (Reserarch for Possibility of ELID Grinding of Hard Disk Glass)

  • In this paper, machining characteristics of glass for HDD media are researched. Nowadays HDD media are used globally as a data storage device. In generally, it is machined by the lapping. But the lapping process time is long and the productivity is low. In this reason, 1 examined the possibility of ELID grinding of glass fur HDD media. If the machining process of HDD media can be changed to ELID grinding, a product cost will be largely saved. The machines used in this experiment were a special rotary type grinder and a normal rotary grinder. The one has an air bearing spindle, the other has not. Experimental results show the possibility of highly efficient grinding and mirror surface can be achieved by the ELID grinding.

주축모터전류신호를 이용한 원통 연삭시 가공 상태 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Evaluation of Machining States in the Cylindrical Plunge Grinding using the Current Signals of a Spindle Motor)

  • This paper describes the machining characteristics of cylindrical plunge grinding. The study investigates the process using the current signals of a spindle motor through a hall sensor. Grinding experiments were conducted under various conditions such as wheel speeds, workpiece speeds and infeed rates with a conventional vitrified bonded wheel. Analyzing the current signal of the spindle motor, a relationship between current signals and the metal removal rate in terms of the in(red rate is induced. It was also shown that a hall sensor has similar capabilities in evaluation of grinding behavior compared to the AE signals, which are useful far monitoring the grinding process.

  • In this study, experiments were carried out to investigate the characteristics of grinding and wear process of diamond wheel grinding ceramic materials. Normal component of grinding resistance of $AI_2O_3$ was less then that of $Si_3N_4$ and $ZrO_2$. It is because the resistance for grain shedding is less then that for layer formation. For the case of $Si_3N_4$ and $ZrO_2$, as the grain mesh number of wheel increases, the surface roughness decreases. For the case of $AI_2O_3$, the surface roughness does not decreases. For the case of $Si_3N_4$ and $ZrO_2$, grinding is carried out by abrasive wear processes. For the case of $AI_2O_3$, grinding is carried out by grain shedding process.

  • Super-abrasives such as diamond and CBN have used to maintain accuracy and form deviation for superalloy etc. This study contains the dry cylindrical grinding of metals with resinoid-bond CBN wheel. For various conditions of grinding speed, workpiece speed, grinding depth and feed speed of table, the grinding resistance and the surface roughness are measured and discussed. The results are as follows.

  • In this study, the grinding characteristics of CBN wheels, such as grinding force and surface roughness, have been compared and analyzed from various working conditions of spindle speed and depth of cut. To actualize high efficient grinding at ceramic and silicon nitride material, electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) method has been applied at metal bonded diamond and CBN wheels. Super precision grinding using ductile mode at difficult-ta-cut materials could be performed.

  • To manufacture alumina products, sintering and grinding process are needed. In Al2O3 grinding, macro/micro surface fracture and cracks are easily occurred on the ground surface because of its high brittleness. In view point of fatigue fracture, surface profile produced by grinding is considered as notches. Therefore, it was reasonable that magnitudes and shapes of surface profiles effects on fatigue strength and life. Particularly, surface finish of Al2O3 which have high hardness and brittleness have an effect on fatigue strength. In this paper, some experiments are carried out to examine influence of grinding conditions to magnitude and shape of surface profile as well as the relationships of Ra, Rmax, Rmax/Ra, and Ku. Through the experimental results, It is found that Ra and Rmax was affected by grinding conditions, but Rmax/Ra and Ku was not. There are linear relations between Ra and Rmax, and between Rmax/Ra and Ku.

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of diamond wheel grinding of ceramic materials, grinding resistance, surface roughness of ground surface and image of grinding wheel were acquired using experimental method. Through the experiments, this makes it possible to observe grinding wheel behavior by grinding resistance, surface roughness and cutting edge ratio. In case of $Al_2O_3$, cutting edge ratio is bigger than that of $ZrO_2$ and $Si_3N_4$. That's because $Al_2O_3$ has a characteristic of low fracture toughness and bending stress.

  • In recent years, grinding techniques for precision machining of stainless steel used in shaft, screw parts and clear value have been improved by using the superabrasive wheel and precision grinding machine. The completion of optimum dressing of superabrasive wheel makes possible the effective precision grinding of stainless steel. However, the present dressing system cannot have control of optimum dressing of the superabrasive wheel. In this study, a new system and the grinding mechanism of optimum in-process dressing of superabrasive wheel. Therefore, the optimum in-process electrolytic dressing is a good method to obtain the efficiency and mirror-like grinding of stainless steel (STS304)

  • Owing to the introduction of various IT devices with emphasis on portability and design, the TFT (thin film transistor liquid crystal display) panel applied to IT devices has the same shape as the product, and the portability requirement of IT devices has resulted in a need for panels with higher rigidity. In this study, the effect of grinding conditions such as the feed rate and edge speed of edge grinding on the surface roughness and chipping of the machined surface is investigated using a metal bond wheel. During edge grinding of alkari-free glass, weak mechanical property of glass results in big chipping owing to generation of tensile stress at the end of grining operation. The results of this study show that the grinding characteristics of alkali-free glass are obtained and meet industry requirements.

실험적 방법에 의한 파인세라믹스의 연삭성에 관한 연구 (A study on the Grindability of Fine Ceramics by Experimental Method)

  • This paper describes the characteristics of high speed grinding and the influence of wheel surface speed V and a grindability of the grinding materials. The various fine ceramics pieces was ground by metal and vitrified bonded diamond wheel. The surface roughness of fine ceramics(Zirconia($ZrO_2$), Silicon Carbide(SiC), Silicon Nitride($Si_3N_4$), Alumina($Al_2O_3$)) decreases from $0.05{\mu}m(R_{max})$ to $0.025{\mu}m(R_{max})$ when the wheel speed at grinding point increases the wheel speed. Relation between the temperature at grinding point and surface roughness was linear. Abrasive jet machining(AJM), a specialized from of shot blasting, is considered one of the most helpful micro machining methods for hard and brittle materials such as glasses and ceramics by constant pressure grinding.
