Grinding Wheel Life in Surface Grinding (평면연삭에서의 연삭수명 평가)

  • In the grinding process, the degree of the sharpness in wheel gram affects the surface roughness and the dimensional accuracy. If a wheel with dull grains is used, the grinding force will be increased and the surface roughness deteriorated. To produce a precision component, the magnitude of parameters related to the wear amount of a grinding wheel has to be limited. In this study, a variation of the grinding force and the surface roughness were measured to seek the machining characteristics of the W A and CBN wheels. From the wear amount of the grinding wheel and the removal rate of workpiece, the grinding ratio was calculated. And also the wheel life was determined at a rapid decreasing point of the grinding ratio. The difference between the surface of wheel-workpiece before grinding and after wheel life was clearly verified with a microscopic photo.

If a wheel with dull grains is used, the grinding force is increased and the surface roughness is deteriorated. In ovder to produce a precision component economically, the magnitude of the wear amount in the grinding wheel has to be limited. In this study, experimental evaluation of a wheel life varying with the grinding ratio and static grinding force was conducted. The grinding ratio and grinding force were measured to seek the grinding performance of the WA wheel. The relationship between the grinding ratio and static grinding force was presented.

  • The grinding operation is an important machining process for machining of final surface. However. grinding process has inevitable troubles such as loading and glazing for grinding wheel. It is, therefore, an essential research theme to determine the wheel life and the dressing timefor efficient grinding. In this study, AE signals (AEavg) generated in thc grinding operation were measured and the dressing time was determined from the analysis of the AEavg value. To verify the propriety of the obtained result. the AE signals measured on the grinding and the dressing operation were compared with the grinding force signals and the dressing force which were measured at same time. From the obtained result, it was confirmed that the determination of the wheel life and the dressing time by the AE measurement technique proposed in this study can be practically used.

Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to determine the wheel life by monitoring behavior of grinding power for Wa, 19A and GC. For this purpose, we investigated indirectly the attritious wear of grain edge, the loading of grinding wheel and the breakage of grain through the grinding power and the surface roughness under various grinding conditions. From obtained the results, the relationship between the wheel life and the average sectional chip area is examined to guide for the determination of dressing time.

  • In the grinding process, the edge of shape is very important to evaluate the surface roughness and the precision of dimension. To keep precision of product, parameters with respect to the amount of wheel wear have to limit by grinding condition. In this paper, we measured variation of grinding force to seek the grinding characteristics by the amount of wheel wear in surface grinding. Also, we find out that how these condition give influence to wheel life.

  • The control of rail surface irregularity is very important for the high speed train service in the high speed rail. In order to manage it, initial, preventative, and maintainable rail grinding have been performed and among them, preventative rail grinding conducts in every each year. This study carried out the field test for dynamic track response according to rail surface irregularity comparing before and after rail grinding. In addition, the change of dynamic track responses according to rail grinding was analyzed and the fatigue life was estimated though Rainflow Counting Method and RMC Equivalence Stress. Therefore, it suggested that rail fatigue life should be increased by rail grinding, because amount of impact occurred on track is decreased by getting rid of rail surface irregularity.

  • The importance of maintenance of rail surface defects is increasing according to the KTX operation. That is because during high speed operation of rolling stocks, rail surface defects shorten fatigue life of rail, accelerate track degradation and deteriorate ride comfort. Rail grinding has been applied for effective rail maintenance in Kyeong-Bu HS line. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of rail grinding in term of rail fatigue life. To this end, the stresses of the ground rail are measured under KTX running and the equivalent stress range is calculated by RMC after the frequency analysis done with Rainflow counting method. Also, Pamglen-Miner rule is applied to predict the fatigue life of ground rail. The result of the analysis shows that the fatigue life of ground rail is increased by 15%.
