  • There are many difficulties in automatic polishing for die & mold surfaces. Even though the process has been studied in the past 15 years, it has not been achieved yet, but by the process of actual hand work of well-skilled workers. A new magentic assisted polishing process, which is one of the potential method for automation of surface finishing has been studied in the past 10 years by colleagues. The process has many merits, but on the other hand also has demerits, one being low efficiency of gridability by comparision with grinding wheel polish. Therefore, some attempts were tried to improve the grindability by adopting electropolishing, ultra-high speed milling, 5-axis controlled machine etc... most recently by collegues. This study also aims to improve the efficiency of polishing by introducing the easily-polished shape surface milling method equalizing the tool feed per tooth to the pick feed. This milling method was experimentally confirmed to have sufficient grindability to polish milled surface (with 10 .mu. mRmax surface roughness) into mirror surface (with 0.4 .mu. mRmax surface roughness).

  • The distribution of magnetic flux density of electro-magnetic chucks may clarify the clamping characteristics, which is strongly related to the machining efficiency and machining accuracy in surface grinding machine. Therefore the distribution of the normal and the tangential components of magnetic flux density have been analyzed theoretically. It appears that the normal component of magnetic flux density increases and the tangential component of magnetic flux density increases as the ratio of the separator width to the pitch, e/p decreases. The results seem to increase the stability and uniformity of normal component of magnetic flux density for the decreased e/p.

  • This study was investigated the effect of the morphology change of copper (Cu) powders under the different rotational speed and milling time by using three kinds of grinding media with different size and materials, and performed DEM simulations of ball behavior. In order to clarify the mechanism of grinding by three - dimensional simulations of the ball behavior in a traditional ball mill, the force, kinetic energy, and medium velocity of the grinding media were calculated. In the simulation, the amount of change of the input energy was also calculated by adjusting the rotational speed, ball material, kinetic velocity, and friction coefficient in the same as the actual experimental conditions. The scanning electron microscope results show that the particle morphology changes from irregular to spherical when the ball size is small.

  • In swine production, efficiency of utilization of nutrients is imperative. By embracing advances in processing techniques(i.e., fine grinding, pelleting, steam flaking, roasting, extrusion and expanding) nutrient utilization of feeds turfs have greatly improved. Grinding is by far the most commonly used process with reduction of particle size, Expander, like extruders, are high-temperature and pressure-short-term processor. The purpose of using an expander is to improve pellet quality. Also, expanding of dietary ingredients indicates improvements in growth performance and nutrient digestibility. Because feed cost are easily the greatest economic input into swine production, maximizing nutrient utilization is an area that will continue to receive much attention. Therefore, much attention will continue to be placed on feed processing techniques that will give consistent improvements in animal performance and nutrient digestibility.

  • As gas turbines for power generation become increasingly more important for high capacity and high efficiency, the technological development and investment of companies are increasing globally. Gas turbine manufacturing technology is only owned by a few companies such as GE, Siemens, and MHI, and our country currently depends on imports of processing technology and component parts. The core part of the gas turbine is curvic coupling tooth processing technology that improves turbine efficiency by smoothly transmitting power to the turbine rotor. Curvic coupling tooth machining and evaluation research is restricted overseas, and it is not underway in Korea. Therefore, in this study, roughing and finishing process technology for curvic coupling tooth machining is developed and a quantitative evaluation method is proposed. For the development of machining technology, the analysis of critical parameters was performed through C & E analysis. In the roughing process, the conditions considering the minimum machining time and tool load ratio were determined. Finishing process conditions were determined based on the contact ratio between the tooth surfaces. The image-processing method is presented for evaluation of the contact ratio and a verification test was performed.

  • The guidance core is a principal part installed between the ink and the pen nib for the function of supplying ink to paper with reqularity. The current measurement of this product, Guidance core, in service is done by on operator with a micrometer, which could result in the decrease of productivity and working efficiency as well as causing errors. In this study, the existing measurement of the dialmeter of the Guidance core in the centerless grinding process is changed to the inprocessor measurement which enables consecutive measurement during the production of the Guidance core, and this system is also developed to work properly under bad circumstances and to have superior reliance and operational efficiency.

  • Liquid microparticulated seaweed calcium was manufactured via a wet grinding process. Thereafter, different forming agents such as cyclodextrin, gum arabic, and Na-caseinate were added to the liquid calcium, which was then spray-dried to investigate the quality of the powdered calcium treatments. The moisture contents of samples were approximately 2%. It was also determined that the different kinds of forming agents did not affect the spray drying efficiency. In addition, calcium solubility was the highest in a solution of pH 2. In buffer solution and vinegar, the powdered calcium made with gum arabic showed the highest solubility among the treatments. The calcium contents of all the powdered microparticulate seaweed calcium samples were about 28%, and calcium content was not affected by the forming agents. The spray-dried calcium powder made by spray drying with gum arabic had the highest water vapor uptake, whereas the seaweed calcium was stable in terms of water adsorption. The results of SEM observations indicated that a portion of the spray-dried calcium powders were in nano-scale after wet-grinding. Among the treatments, the use of saccharides as a forming agent resulted in the most uniform particle distribution after spray-drying.

  • The maintenance / repair of concrete pavements has become an issue as a result of increasing of concrete pavements' service year. Asphalt overlay is applied to the concrete pavements after partial repairs on all occasions. This thesis discusses the application standard, evenness, skid resistance, noise, economical efficiency, extension of life span, etc. of diamond grinding, a method of maintenance about concrete pavements. Based on this, it was applied to the field and measured the performance. It was measured the longitudinal evenness of before and after the construction through measurement equipment. and surveyed the skid resistance the each lane classified using the SN standard value. In case of noise, it is selected the kind of vehicle, velocity, then measured the noise between control and constructed site. In addition, it is evaluated the average texture depth. As a result of the analysis, longitudinal evenness is improved about $6{\sim}40%$, skid resistance is improved 66% at first section,37% at second section. Noise is reduced 3.4dB average, and average texture depth is 79% deeper than control section. Therefore, it can be concluded that diamond grinding is suitable as maintenance / repair method of concrete pavements.
