  • Power grid techniques are distributed over general power systems ranging from power stations to power transmission, power distribution, and users. To monitor and control the elements and performance of a power system in real time in the extensive area of power generation, power transmission, wide-area monitoring (WAM) and control techniques are required (Sattinger et al. 2007). Also, to efficiently operate a power grid, integrated techniques of information and communication technology are required for the application of communication network and relevant equipment, computing, and system control software. WAM should make a precise power grid measurement of more than once per cycle by time synchronization using GPS. By collecting the measurement values of a power grid from substations located at faraway regions through remote communication, the current status of the entire power grid system can be examined. However, for GPS that is used in general national industries, unexpected dangerous situations have occurred due to its deterioration and jamming. Currently, the power grid is based on a synchronization system using GPS. Thus, interruption of the time synchronization system of the power system due to the failure or abnormal condition of GPS would have enormous effects on each field such as economy, security, and the lives of the public due to the destruction of the synchronization system of the national power grid. Developed countries have an emergency substitute system in preparation for this abnormal situation of GPS. Therefore, in Korea, a system that is used to prepare for the interruption of GPS reception should also be established on a long-term basis; but prior to this, it is required that an evaluation technique for the time synchronization performance of a GPS receiver using an atomic clock within the power grid. In this study, a monitoring system of time synchronization based on GPS at a power grid was implemented, and the results were presented.

  • In this paper, we tried to enable a mobile device as a resource to access to mobile grid networks. By advanced Internet techniques, the use of mobile devices has been rapidly increased. Some researches in mobile grid computing tried to combine grid computing with mobile devices. However, according to intrinsic properties of mobile environments, mobile devices have many considerations, such as mobility management, disconnected operation, device heterogeneity, service discovery, resource sharing, security, and so on. To solve these problems, there are two trends for mobile grid computing: a proxy-based mobile grid architecture and an agent-based mobile grid architecture. We focus on a proxy-based mobile grid architecture with IP-paging, which can easily manage idle mobile devices and grid resource status information. Also, we use SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)to support mobility management, mobile grid services. We manage variation of mobile device state and power by paging cache. Finally, using the candidate set and the reservation set of resources, we perform task migration. The performance evaluation by simulation, shows improvement of efficiency and stability during execution.

  • Because sensitive and private information should be exchanged between electric vehicles and a V2G service provider, reliable communication channel is essential to operate Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) system which considers battery of electric vehicles as a factor of smart grid. The block chain is a platform for cryptocurrency transaction and fully distributed database system running by only equivalent node in the network without help of any central management or 3rd party. In this paper, the structure and operation method of the blockchain are investigated, and the application of the blockchain for the V2G system was also explained and analyzed.

  • ZigBee is a wireless sensor network protocol recognized as a next-generation standard infrastructure for WBAN and Smart Grid. Security plays an important role in several ZigBee applications. Especially, strict membership control should be enforced when the membership is changed during the join and leave operations in ZigBee. In this paper, we investigate the security weakness of the current leave operation in ZigBee and propose a new security scheme to address it as well as its security and performance analysis.

  • In recent years, for the viewpoint of environment and electric power demand for stable secure, new energy such as photovoltaic system (PV) become increasingly popular. In case of interconnecting PV to the commercial electric company, two problems will occur when operating in isclation with the other general consumers. One is doing harm to the power quality. And the other is the security problem caused by charching a part of commercial system line that has to be no voltage. In this paper, a simple modelling of distribution system and grid-connected PV system and simulation result were proposed.

  • In this paper, we suggested how the Internet of Things (IoT) technology could be applied to an internet platform that is used for managing the customer's power grid efficiently. For an internet platform with efficient management, analysis is done by several sections; communication method, and its protocol, and also security element. From this analysis, with currently used sensors, we have presented a development method for the sensor to server data reliable communication solution and data management server with a security solution. Moreover, this paper suggests a communication module that could be used for a power grid management platform, protocol and security algorithm and also a way to build a server for managing those systems and modules.

  • Efficient operation of ships can transport cargo to ports safer and faster, and reduce fuel costs. Therefore, in this study, the pattern was analyzed using AIS data of ships passing near Busan Port, a representative port in Korea. The analysis of vessel traffic patterns was approached with a grid-based node generation method, which can be used for research such as optimal route and route prediction.

  • Currently, the X.509 proxy certificate is widely used to delegate an entity's right to another entity in the computational grid environment. However it has two drawbacks: the potential security threat caused by intraceability of a delegation chain and the inefficiency caused by an interactive communication between the right grantor and the right grantee on the delegation protocol. To address these problems for computational grids, we propose a new delegation protocol without additional cost. We use an ID-based key generation technique to generate a proxy private key which is a means to exercise the delegated signing right. By applying the ID-based key generation technique, the proposed protocol has the delegation traceability and the non-interactive delegation property. Since the right delegation occurs massively in the computational grid environment, our protocol can contribute the security enhancement by providing the delegation traceability and the efficiency enhancement by reducing the inter-domain communication cost.

  • As more users use mobile devices, shoulder surfing attacks have emerged as an important issue in security. According to research report, in fact, the result showed that about 30% of smartphone users are hit by shoulder surfing attacks. To this end, in this paper, we consider a shoulder surfing attack and propose a partially hidden password system to resistant to its attack. In order to help readers understand, we describe the proposed password system in more detail using one simple example. The core idea behind the proposed system is to place the user's password randomly in the specified grid instead of entering a password directly. As a result, even if an attacker makes a shoulder surfing attack to observe the password, the user can hide the preset password and defend against the attack. We also show how the security of the password system proposed in this paper is improved. In addition, even if there are consecutive shoulder surfing attacks, the security of the proposed password system is robust.
