Optimal Design Method of 1-Port Surge Protective Device Based on Zinc Oxide Varistor (선화아연바리스터 기반의 1-포트 서지보호장치의 최적 설계 기법)

  • This paper reports a Surge Protective Device (SPD) that is used to protect an automatic metering interface (AMI) power supplies of communication equipment on a low-voltage distribution system from a lightning current. The surge protective device (SPD) can be classified as one-port SPDs and two-port SPDs with decoupling elements depending on the connection type. The protection of internal systems against the lightning current may require a systematic approach consisting of coordinated SPDs. To deal with this, the definition of a lightning protection zone (LPZ) was studied and interpreted through a theoretical review. Because the lightning current resulting from a lightning surge is considerably high, there is limited protection from one SPD; therefore, coordinated cascaded MOV-based SPDs are installed to solve this problem. Regarding the power grid mentioned in this paper, a class II SPD for the low-voltage distribution system installed on the border of LPZ1 and LPZ2, which establish a protection coordination with the Arrester (LA, SA) that corresponds to the LPZO installed on the MOF stage connected to one system were designed to protect various communication (control) equipment, including the automatic meter reading system inside the branch-type electric supply panel of a building, not the incoming side of one system. In addition, performance-related tests were done by a comparison with the existing method through testing, and the optimal design was achieved for the 1-port SPD that uses a series connection and can bleed load current without any decoupling element.

Object-Based Integral Imaging Depth Extraction Using Segmentation (영상 분할을 이용한 객체 기반 집적영상 깊이 추출)

  • A novel method for the reconstruction of 3D shape and texture from elemental images has been proposed. Using this method, we can estimate a full 3D polygonal model of objects with seamless triangulation. But in the triangulation process, all the objects are stitched. This generates phantom surfaces that bridge depth discontinuities between different objects. To solve this problem we need to connect points only within a single object. We adopt a segmentation process to this end. The entire process of the proposed method is as follows. First, the central pixel of each elemental image is computed to extract spatial position of objects by correspondence analysis. Second, the object points of central pixels from neighboring elemental images are projected onto a specific elemental image. Then, the center sub-image is segmented and each object is labeled. We used the normalized cut algorithm for segmentation of the center sub-image. To enhance the speed of segmentation we applied the watershed algorithm before the normalized cut. Using the segmentation results, the subdivision process is applied to pixels only within the same objects. The refined grid is filtered with median and Gaussian filters to improve reconstruction quality. Finally, each vertex is connected and an object-based triangular mesh is formed. We conducted experiments using real objects and verified our proposed method.

  • With the rapid industrialization and economical development, the electricity demands of the industrial facilities and densely populated large cities are continuing to increase in Korea. The increase in the power consumption requires the extension of power facilities, but it is difficult to secure spaces for equipment installation in the limited space of urban areas. In addition, the 154 kV or 345 kV transmission systems in Korea has a short transmission distance, and are connected to one another in network structures that ensure the high reliability and stability of power supply. This structure reduces the impedance during the fault in power system, and increases the magnitude of in the short circuit fault current. The superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) was devised to effectively address these existing problems. The SFCL is a new-concept eco-friendly protective device that ensures fast operation and recovery time for the fault current and does not need additional fault detection devices. Therefore, many studies are being conducted around the world. In this paper, based on the wiring method the initial fault current characteristics, current limiting characteristics, according to the incident angle and the change in inductance current limiting characteristics were analyzed in a multifaceted methods.

  • This paper describes power generation from sea waves by using linear permanent magnet generator. A buoy is placed on the ocean surface and connected to the generator. The wave energy is carried out from the movement of a buoy. An electrical conversion system is needed between the generator and the grid. For an analysis of the power system, the modeling of the linear generator and converter system was proceeded. This paper proposes vector control method for wave power generation system using linear generator. In order to verify the proposed method, simulation and experiment performed and the results support the validity of the control scheme.

  • This research proposed a new method to evaluate the objective validity to launch smart transportation services that various stakeholders are complicatedly inter-connected. First of all, we have designed the fundamental business model to form the smart transportation services and defined the stakeholders taking part in the services. Also, the criteria to evaluate the economical validity has been proposed based on the relationship among stakeholders. Especially, in the case EV drivers and charging service providers, the economical validity depends on the scale of spreading. Therefore, we have compared the two extreme scenarios, the poor and stable level of EV spreading. According to the result, it may be said that EV drivers and charging service providers cannot be guaranteed the economical validity due to the burden of initial investment. On the contrary to this, suppliers of EV and charging gears may secure more than a certain level of profit. In addition, the government may have great profit due to reducing the CO2 emission and cost for importing energy sources. Therefore, it is needed to enhance the level of supporting EV drivers and charging service providers at the first stage. Also, the impact of the ratio of EV and charging service stations on the economical validity of smart transportation should be further investigated.

  • This paper proposes the structure of a smart transformer to improve the performance of the 60Hz main power transformer for rolling stock. The proposed smart transformer is a kind of solid state transformer that consists of semiconductor switching devices and high frequency transformers. This smart transformer would have smaller size than the conventional 60Hz main transformer for rolling stock, making it possible to operate AC electrified track efficiently by power factor control. The proposed structure employs a cascade H-Bridge converter to interface with the high voltage AC single phase grid as the rectifier part. Each H-Bridge converter in the rectifier part is connected by a Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converter to generate an isolated low voltage DC output source of the system. Because the AC voltage in the train system is a kind of medium voltage, the number of the modules would be several tens. To control the entire smart transformer, the inner DC voltage of the modules, the AC input current, and the output DC voltage must be controlled instantaneously. In this paper, a control algorithm to operate the proposed structure is suggested and confirmed through computer simulation.

A Fuel Cell Generation Modeling and Interconnected Signal Analysis using PSCAD/EMTDC (연료전지 발전시스템의 PSCAD/EMTDC 모델링 및 계통연계에 따른 전력신호 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The fuel cell generation convert fuel source, and gas directly to electricity in an electro-chemical process. Unlike traditional and conventional turbine engines, the process of fuel cell generation do not burn the fuel and run pistons or shafts, and it has not revolutionary machine, so have fewer efficiency losses, low emissions and no noisy moving parts. A high power density allows fuel cells to be relatively compact source of electric power, beneficial in application with space constraints. In this system, the fuel cell itself is nearly small-sized by other components of the system such as the fuel reformer and power inverter. So, the fuel cell energy's stationary fuel cells produce reliable electrical power for commercial and industrial companies as well as utilities. In this paper, a fuel cell system has been modeled using PSCAD/EMTDC to analyze its electric signals and characteristics. Also the power quality of the fuel cell system has been evaluated and the problems which can be occurred during its operation have been studied by modeling it more detailed. Particularly, we have placed great importance on its power quality and signal characteristics when it is connected with a power grid.

A Priority Based Multipath Routing Mechanism in the Tactical Backbone Network (전술 백본망에서 우선순위를 고려한 다중 경로 라우팅 방안)

  • The tactical network is system based on wireless networking technologies that ties together surveillance reconnaissance systems, precision strike systems and command and control systems. Several alternative paths exist in the network because it is connected as a grid to improve its survivability. In addition, the network topology changes frequently as forces and combatants change their network access points while conducting operations. However, most Internet routing standards have been designed for use in stable backbone networks. Therefore, tactical networks may exhibit a deterioration in performance when these standards are implemented. In this paper, we propose Priority based Multi-Path routing with Local Optimization(PMPLO) for a tactical backbone network. The PMPLO separately manages the global and local metrics. The global metric propagates to other routers through the use of a routing protocol, and it is used for a multi-path configuration that is guaranteed to be loop free. The local metric reflects the link utilization that is used to find an alternate path when congestion occurs, and it is managed internally only within each router. It also produces traffic that has a high priority privilege when choosing the optimal path. Finally, we conducted a simulation to verify that the PMPLO can effectively distribute the user traffic among available routers.

  • Hybrid power storage system with emergency power function for demand management and power outage minimizes the investment cost in the building of buildings and factories requiring emergency power generation facilities, We propose a new business model by developing technology that can secure economical efficiency by reducing power cost at all times. Normally, system power is supplied to load through STS (Static Transfer Switch), and PCS is connected to system in parallel to perform demand management. In order to efficiently operate the electric power through demand forecasting, the EMS issues a charge / discharge command to the ESS as a PMS (Power Management System), and the PMS transmits the command to the PCS controller to operate the system. During the power outage, the STS is rapidly disengaged from the system, and the PCS becomes an independent power supply and can supply constant voltage / constant frequency power to the load side. Therefore, it is possible to secure reliability through verification of actual system linkage and independent operation performance of hybrid ESS, By enabling low-carbon green growth technology to operate in conjunction with an efficient grid, it is possible to improve irregular power quality and contribute to peak load by generating renewable energy through ESS linkage. In addition, the ESS is replacing the frequency follow-up reserve, which is currently under the charge of coal-fired power generation, and thus it is anticipated that the operation cost of the LNG generator with high fuel cost can be reduced.

Construction of a Sub-catchment Connected Nakdong-gang Flood Analysis System Using Distributed Model (분포형 모형을 이용한 소유역 연계 낙동강 홍수해석시스템 구축)

  • 본 논문에서는 분포형 강우-유출 모형인 GRM(Grid based Rainfall-runoff Model)(최윤석, 김경탁, 2017)을 이용해서 낙동강 유역을 대상으로 대유역 홍수해석시스템을 구축하고, 유출해석을 위한 실행시간을 평가하였다. 유출모형은 낙동강의 주요 지류와 본류를 소유역으로 구분하여 모형을 구축하고, 각 소유역의 유출해석 결과를 실시간으로 연계할 수 있도록 하여 낙동강 전체 유역의 유출모형을 구축하였다. 이와 같이 하나의 대유역을 다수의 소유역시스템으로 분할하여 모형을 구축할 경우, 유출해석시스템 구성이 복잡해지는 단점이 있으나, 소유역별로 각기 다른 자료를 이용하여 다양한 해상도로 유출해석을 할 수 있으므로, 소유역별 특성에 맞는 유출모형 구축이 가능한 장점이 있다. 또한 각 소유역시스템은 별도의 프로세스로 계산이 진행되므로, 대유역을 고해상도로 해석하는 경우에도 계산시간을 단축할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 낙동강 유역을 20개(본류 구간 3개, 1차 지류 13개, 댐상류 4개)의 소유역으로 분할하여 계산 시간을 검토하였으며, 최종적으로 21개(본류 구간 3개, 1차 지류 13개, 댐상류 5개)의 소유역으로 분할하여 유출해석시스템을 구축하였다. 댐 상류 유역은 댐하류와 유량전달이 없이 독립적으로 모의되고, 댐과 연결된 하류 유역은 관측 방류량을 상류단 하천의 경계조건으로 적용한다. 지류 유역은 본류 구간과 연결되고, 지류의 계산 유량은 본류와의 연결지점에 유량조건으로 실시간으로 입력된다. 이때 본류와 지류의 유량 연계는 데이터베이스를 매개로 하였다. 유출해석시스템의 성능을 평가하기 위해서 Microsoft 클라우드 서비스인 Azure를 이용하였다. 낙동강 유역을 20개 소유역으로 구성한 경우에서의 유출해석시스템의 속도 평가 결과 Azure virtual machine instance DS15 v2(OS : Windows Server 2012 R2, CPU : 2.4 GHz Intel $Xeon^{(R)}$ E5-2673 v3 20 cores)에서 1.5분이 소요 되었다. 계산시간 평가시 GRM은 'IsParallel=false' 옵션을 적용하였으며, 모의 기간은 24시간을 기준으로 하였다. 연구결과 분포형 모형을 이용한 대유역 유출해석시스템 구축이 가능했으며, 계산시간도 충분히 단축할 수 있었다. 또한 추가적인 CPU와 병렬계산을 적용할 경우, 계산시간은 더 단축될 수 있으며, 이러한 기법들은 분포형 모형을 이용한 대유역 유출해석시스템 구축시 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.
