  • With the diversification of research using UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)s, the possibility of remote sensing research for urban green spaces is increasing. UAVs can be used as an investigation method to monitor the successful construction of the park and the planting of vegetation since its creation. This study was carried out to investigate UAVs utilization of urban green space monitoring in Dosol Square. It was photographed three times on May 21, July 13, and September 16, 2018 using DJI Phantom3 pro, Inspire2, and Parrot Sequoia multispectral camera. Orthographic images were overlaid on the planting plan of the site and the construction results were checked, the change of vitality of the plantation area was analyzed by NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and SAVI(Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index). As a result, it was confirmed that the UAVs are very effective for surveying the view of the urban green space after the construction and recording the results, which can be grasped quantitatively by overlaying the planting plan map. UAVs are more likely to be used in terms of monitoring vegetation vitality. It is interpreted that SAVI is better than NDVI in the green space just after composition. Chionanthus retusus and Pinus strobus were analyzed for their low level of vitality, and partially damaged and their vitality was lowered. In addition, there was difficulty in grass planting area and flower garden due to drainage and summer drought problems. In the future, it is expected that orthoimage and multispectral data using UAVs will be useful in the early vegetation monitoring and management field of urban green spaces.

  • This study was initiated to evaluate the Phosphorus(P) leaching potential in the putting green soils and P uptake by the turfgrass in the golf course using the P fertilizers. The turfgrass, Floradwarf bermudagrass(Cynodon dactylon L. PERS,) was planted and grown in the mixture of sand and peat moss in this lysimeter study. Five representative P fertilizers, such as, ammonium polyphosphate (APP), monopotassium phosphate (MKP), MAP(monoammonium phosphate), 0-20-20(liquid), and concentrated superphosphate(CSP, solid) were used in this study. Based on the total P quantity of leachate collected during the whole 12 weeks, MKP and APP are the first group of P fertilizers contributing to the leaching of P, then MAP and 0-20-20 are the second group of P fertilizers causing the P leaching. Finally, CSP is the third group of P fertilizer resulting in the P leaching. However, most of P applied and collected in the lysimeter were leached during the first period of two and four weeks, compared to that of P leached during the second period of six, eight, ten, and twelve weeks. Applications of MAP, APP and CSP, MKP and 0-20-20 in order produced the largest amount of total dry matter. However, APP, MKP and MAP, CSP and 0-20-20 in order showed the largest amount of P uptake. Therefore, based on the data of P leaching, dry matter production, and plant P uptake, it appears that CSP, 0-20-20, and MAP are the environmentally sound fertilizers recommended in the turfgrass putting green soil of golf course.

  • Two multichannel analysis of surface wave (MASW) surveys were conducted over a soil site in Tacoma Water's Green River Facility, Washington, where construction of a chemical treatment facility had been planned. The purpose of the surveys was to compare soil stiffness characterized by shear-velocity (Vs) distribution before and after Deep Dynamic Compaction (DDC) operation that was designed to improve the soil stiffness. Site soil consisted of very heterogeneous gravel and cobbles in a sand-and-silt matrix. Results from each survey are represented by two 2-D Vs maps delineating Vs variation of soil below the surveyed lines. One map was constructed from those dispersion curves that were analyzed with a significant amount of subjective judgment involved, whereas the other map was constructed from those dispersion curves analyzed with as much objective information as possible. Comparison of 2-D Vs maps indicates that Vs actually decreased after the DDC operations, possibly due to the loss (or reduction) of cohesive bonding between soil particles caused by the compaction operations.

  • This study predicted urban green spaces for 2020 based on two scenarios keeping or freeing the green-belt in the Daegu metropolitan city using a hybrid Cellular Automata(CA)-Markov model and analyzed the spatial dynamics of urban green spaces between 2009 and 2020 using a land cover change detection technique and spatial metrics. Markov chain analysis was employed to derive the transition probability for projecting land cover change into the future for 2020 based on two land cover maps in 1998 and 2009 provided by the Ministry of Environment. Multi-criteria evaluation(MCE) was adopted to develop seven suitability maps which were empirically derived in relation to the six restriction factors underlying the land cover change between the years 1998 and 2009. A hybrid CA-Markov model was then implemented to predict the land cover change over an 11 year period to 2020 based on two scenarios keeping or freeing the green-belt. The projected land cover for 2009 was cross-validated with the actual land cover in 2009 using Kappa statistics. Results show that urban green spaces will be remarkably fragmented in the suburban areas such as Dalseong-gun, Seongseo, Ansim and Chilgok in the year 2020 if the Daegu metropolitan city keeps its urbanization at current pace and in case of keeping the green-belt. In case of freeing the green-belt, urban green spaces will be fragmented on the fringes of the green-belt. It is thus required to monitor urban green spaces systematically considering the spatial change patterns identified by this study for sustainably managing them in the Daegu metropolitan city in the near future.

  • Tone mapping for High Dynamic Range(HDR) image provides matching human visual perception between real world scene and displayable devices. Recently, a tone mapping algorithm based on localized gamma correction is proposed. This algorithm is using human visual properties of contrast and colorfulness with background intensity, generating a weight map for gamma correction. However, this method have limitations of controlling enhancement region as well as generating halo artifacts caused by the weight map construction. To overcome aforementioned limitations, proposed algorithm in this paper modifies previous weight map, considering base layer intensity of input luminance channel. By determining enhancement region locally and globally based on base layer intensity, gamma values are corrected accordingly. Therefore, proposed algorithm selectively enhances local brightness and controls strength of edges. Subjective evaluation using z-score shows that our proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional methods.

  • Recently, the Green IT is noticed because of the effects of greenhouse gas emissions, a drain on natural resources and pollution. In this paper, Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems with Turbo Coded scheme using LED is proposed and simulated in an optical wireless channel. As a forward error correction scheme to reduce information losses, turbo coding was employed. To decode the codewords, The Map (Maximum a Posteriori) algorism and SOVA (Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm) is used. The above mentioned schemes are described and simulation results are analyzed. As using turbo codes scheme, BER performance of proposed VLC systems is improved about 5 [dB].

  • Conventional GrabCut algorithm is semi-automatic algorithm that user must be set rectangle window surrounds the object. This paper studied automatic object detection to solve these problem by detecting salient region based on Human Visual System. Saliency map is computed using Lab color space which is based on color opposing theory of 'red-green' and 'blue-yellow'. Then Saliency Points are computed from the boundaries of Low-Frequency region that are extracted from Saliency Map. Finally, Rectangle windows are obtained from coordinate value of Saliency Points and these windows are used in GrabCut algorithm to extract objects. Through various experiments, the proposed algorithm computing rectangle windows of salient region and extracting objects has been proved.

  • This study aims to develop a 3D map which allows users to better understand the overall topography and to memorize the general concepts of the current location for tourists. The Map also utilizes different forms and color codes of the block units in the panoramic view. First, in preparation for making the road block unit, 28 types of roads presented in common map were defined. Based on the definitions, 12 dominant groups were formed. In designing each form, visual correlation was considered. Second, 42 types of terrain features presented in normal maps were defined for making the panoramic block unit. Then, 2 dominant groups, each contains 5 subgroups, were made according to the assemble pattern and the size of area. On the basis of the grouped units, the panoramic block units were produced with 3D pole line graphics maintaining integration. Lastly, each panoramic block units were categorized by color classes such as blue, green, gray and brown class. The overall color combination of the work was evaluated as well harmonized since the Moon&Spencer's Aesthetic measure value exceeds 0.5.

  • The single image dehazing algorithm in existence can satisfy the demand only for improving either the effectiveness or efficiency. In order to solve the problem, a novel variational framework for single image dehazing based on restoration is proposed. Firstly, the initial atmospheric scattering model is transformed to meet the kimmel's Retinex variational model. Then, the green light component of image is considered as an input of the variational framework, which is generated by the sensitivity of green wavelength. Finally, the atmospheric transmission map is achieved by multi-resolution pyramid reduction to improve the visual effect of the results. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can remove haze effectively with less memory consumption.
