$NaCaGd(MoO_4)_3:Ho^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ ternary molybdates were successfully synthesized by microwave sol-gel method for the first time. Well-crystallized particles formed after heat-treatment at $900^{\circ}C$ for 16 h showed a fine and homogeneous morphology with particle sizes of $3-5{\mu}m$. Under excitation at 980 nm, the UC intensities of the doped samples exhibited strong yellow emissions based on the combination of strong emission bands at the 520-nm and 630-nm emission bands in the green and red spectral regions, respectively. The strong 520-nm emission band in the green region corresponds to the $^5S_2/^5F_4{\rightarrow}^5I_8$ transition of $Ho^{3+}$ ions, while the strong 630-nm emission band in the red region appears to be due to the $^5F_5{\rightarrow}^5I_8$ transition of the $Ho^{3+}$ ions. The optimal $Yb^{3+}:Ho^{3+}$ ratio was found at 9:1, as indicated by the composition-dependent quenching effect of $Ho^{3+}$ ions. The pump power dependence of the upconversion emission intensity and the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage chromaticity coordinates of the phosphors were evaluated in detail.
This study has aimed to compare an emission trading system (ETS) in the EU and Japan that introduced the scheme prior to Korea and provided the latter with a benchmarking model. Especially, the EU has a reputation for its well-organized and evolving system, and Japan has also successfully established the system despite its similar condition with Korea, such as an industrial structure and the degree of energy dependence. However, there are noticeable differences between the EU and Japan in their ETS. Whereas Japan has focused on securing certifications in CDM as the implementation of Kyoto protocol, EU has shown a tendency to transform the trading market from a parallel structure of EUA and CER transaction to only the EUA transaction after ending of 1st commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol. Since the differences were mainly caused by not only in a design of the system but also in internal governance and their national circumstance, it is meaningful to analyse the Korean case with a similar framework. This study may contribute to designing an appropriate system for emission trading in Korea through the comparison of the EU and Japanese case.
Climate change is one of the major issues in both the developed and developing world. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission is one of the implications for climate change. It is increasing rapidly. Although the emission is much less when compared to the rest of the world, Ethiopia has also faced this global issue. The major source for GHG emission in Ethiopia is agriculture. Therefore, the agriculture sector has to be given more attention in Ethiopia. To overcome the problem, Climate-Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy has been initiated. One way of executing this target is to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly pathway to use agricultural byproducts. Sugarcane is one of the major plants in Ethiopia. Its byproducts are bagasse, molasses, and press mud. Since it is a waste product, it is economical and creates a sustainable and green environment by reducing GHG emissions. Sugarcane byproducts have versatile applications like as fuel, as cement replacing material, as a mitigation for expansive soils, as biosorbent for the treatment of water and wastewater and also as a wood material. However, Ethiopia has not used this byproduct massively as it is readily available. This paper reviews the possible applications of sugarcane byproducts to mitigate climate change.

PHOLED devices which have the structure of ITO/HAT-CN(5nm)/NPB(50nm)/EML(47nm)/TPBi(10nm)/Alq3(20nm)/LiF(0.8nm)/Al(100nm) are fabricated to investigate the diffusion length of the triplet exciton by using double-quantum-well(DQE) EML structure. To fabricate DQW structures, Ir(ppy)3(2% wt) and Ir(btp)2(8% wt) are used as green and red emission zones, respectively. In DQW structured EML, as shown in Fig. 1, 1nm thick layers of green and red emission zones are located middle of the EML, and the distance between these wells(x) is changed from 0nm to 10nm. As shown in Fig. 2, the emission spectra from DQW PHOLED devices are changed with different x. The intensity of the green emission(520nm) is decreased when x is decreased, and it goes to near zero when x=0nm. This behavior can be identified as the diffusion of the triplet excitons from Ir(ppy)3 to Ir(btp)2 by the Dexter energy transfer(DET). From the external quantum efficiency(EQE) of the red emission, as shown in Fig. 3, the diffusion length of the triplet excitons can be determined by the equation of DET rate, R=A Exp(-2RDA/L), where RDA is donor-acceptor distance and L is the sum of the van der Wals radii. As a result, the measured data of the red EQEs with different x are identified to theoretical result from the equation of DET rate(Fig. 4). From this results, we could confirm that the diffusion length of the triplet excitons can be determined by using DQW structure and this method is very useful to investigate the behavior of the excitons in PHOLEDs.

White-light-emitting ZnS:Mn, Cu, Cl phosphors with spherical shape and the size of $20\;{\mu}m$ are successfully synthesized. They have the double phases of cubic and hexagonal structures. They are applied to electroluminescent (EL) devices by silk screen method with the following structure: $electrode/BaTiO_3$ insulator layer ($50{\sim}60\;{\mu}m$)/ ZnS:Mn, Cu, Cl phosphor layer ($30{\sim}50\;{\mu}m$)/ITO glass. The EL devices are driven with the voltage of 100 V and the frequency of 400 Hz. The EL devices show the three emission peaks. The blue and green emission bands are originated from $CICu^{2+}$ transition and $ClCu^+$ transition, respectively. The yellow emission band results from $^4T^6A$ transition of $Mn^{2+}$ ion. As an increase of Cu concentrations, the blue and green emission intensities decrease whereas the yellow emission intensity increases; the quality becomes warm white. It is due to the energy transfer from the blue and green bands to the yellow band.
Laser emission, a part of electromagnetic wave, has short propagation length in water, and the underwater applications of laser are limited. The acquisition of underwater imaging is possible only by using a blue-green laser since the blue-green range has relatively small absorption coefficient in water. We introduce the conditions of the laser required for underwater imaging and the attenuation characteristics of a blue-green laser used in water.
The light-emitting properties of poly(2-triethylgermyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene) (TEG-PPV) are compared with those of the silyl-substituted PPV homologue, poly(2-trimethylsilyl-1,4phenylenevinylene) (TMS-PPV). The precursor polymer is solution-processable. After carrying out thermal elimination on the precursor polymer film, the resulting fully conjugated polymer film was found to exhibit high thermal stability in air, and absorption that is shifted to the longer wavelength region owing to the extension of the n-conjugated system. TEG-PPV exhibits efficient green light emission; the maximum PL emission of a TEG-PPV thin film was found to be at 515 nm. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels were also determined using photo-emission spectroscopy. The performance of the TEG-PPV EL device was found to be comparable to that of the TMS-PPV device.
We proposed a simplified fabrication structure and method which can provide separate Red (R), Green (G), Blue (B), and White (W) OLED pixels with 2 metal-mask changes in emitting layer fabrication inspired from the structure of multi-layer white OLED and carrier blocking mechanism. A red emission layer for the R and W pixel with 1st mask, and then a blue emission layer with hole blocking layer for the B and W pixel with 2nd mask, and finally a common green emission layer were deposited sequentially. We expect that this concept would be very useful to the actual fabrication of multi-color OLED display although additional optimization is needed.

Due to a low efficiency of phosphor with large Stoke shift in Vacuum Ultra Violet (VUV) excitation environment, new PDP phosphors which can be excited in UV excitation environment need to be developed. In this study, $Zn_2SiO_4:Tb$ phosphor was synthesized by solid-state reaction method at $1300^{\circ}C$ with varying Tb concentration, and its cross relaxation effect was observed by Photoluminescence (PL) measurement. In order to decrease $^5D_3{\to}7F_j$ transition with blue emission in $Zn_2SiO_4:Tb$ phosphor, Dy, co-activator element, was added to $Zn_2SiO_4:Tb$ phosphor. In 254nm excitation environment, broad-emission peak was observed around 524nm, green emission.
