General components of comfrey collected during the period of July-September 1978 in Pusan area were investigated with a view to determine its possible value as a foodstuff by means of titrimetry, chromometric analysis and fluorometric analysis. As a result, the following data were obtained. 1) The contents of moisture, crude lipid, crude protein and carbohydrates of the comfrey were similar to those of other green vegetables such as spinach, crowndaisy, lettuce, leek and mallow. 2) The inorganic Ca, P and Fe of the comfrey were fairly greater in contents than those of other green vegetables. Compared with spinach, for instance, there were 4 times as much Ca and about 2 times as much Fe in it, respectively. 3) The contents of vitamins of the comfrey were also found in an amount much greater than those of other green vegetables. V-A of the comfrey, for instance, were 6 times greater in content than that of lettuce, and about 2 times greater than that of crowndaisy, leek and mallow, respectively. It also showed a greater content of V-A than even that of spinach, known as a vegetable most rich in V-A. V-B of the comfrey showed a little lower level of content than that of spinach but showed about the same level of content as that of leek and lettuce. V-B of the comfrey was 6 to 8 times greater in content than that of lettuce and leek. The content of niacin of the comfrey was also found much greater than those of other foodttuffs. V-C of the comfrey compared 3.5 times greater with that of lettuce, 2 times greater with that of mallow, and generally a higher level with those of other green vegetables. The above findings seem to firmly establish the food scientific value of the comfrey. Furthermore, the vegetable is very prolific and grows easily. If the general public is made aware of these facts, the vegetable is thought to contribute not a little to their dietary life as a nutritious foodstuff.
To evaluate the possibility of charcoal as Green Infrastructure (GI) materials, data such as moisture content, amount of adsorbed water, and amount of evaporation were collected. Some data from previous study were referenced to find out if correlations exist between results in this study and previous study. Only porosity was directly related to moisture content. Two mechanical charcoal had better abilities than traditional charcoal in all three categories. Mechanical black charcoal chips produced by National Forestry Cooperative Federation (NFCFC) adsorbed 333.3% of water in thirty minutes, 297.5% in five minutes, and evaporated around 75% water in four days. This ability is much higher than other five charcoal. Even though results of test showed various degrees and NFCFC was the best as GI materials, data of charcoal were also within acceptable range based on generally accepted characteristics of GI materials.
Two experiments were carried out on a laboratory scale. The first involved a study of the effect of green tea on characteristics of fermented juice of epiphytic lactic acid bacteria (FJLB). FJLB was treated with 50 g/L of green tea products as follows: new shoot powder (FJLB+N), leaf powder (FJLB+L), commercial powder (FJLB+P), sterilized new shoot powder (FJLB+SN), sterilized leaf powder (FJLB+SL) or sterilized commercial powder (FJLB+SP). FJLB without any additive was also prepared (Untreated FJLB). After incubation, the number of microorganisms in FJLB were studied. Subsequently, these FJLB were applied at 10 ml/kg to chopped rhodesgrass to study their effects on fermentation. Compared with untreated FJLB, the addition of green tea increased (p<0.05) lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and also aerobic bacteria counts in FJLB. At 60 d of ensiling, all the FJLB treated silages were well preserved, pH and butyric acid content were lower (p<0.001) and lactic acid was higher (p<0.001) than that of the control. Lactic acid content was significantly higher (p<0.001) with treated FJLB than with untreated FJLB. FJLB treated with sterilized green tea decreased (p<0.001) the pH and the lactic acid content was higher (p<0.001) than that in the unsterilized green tea silages.
The factors affecting chemical composition of green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) during extraction process were temperatures and times. The optimum extraction conditions were measured in relation to the changes of chemical compositions from water extracts of green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) under different extraction temperatures (50, 70, 9$0^{\circ}C$) and extraction times (1, 3, 5 minute). The change of color intensity during browning reaction, flavonoid components, contents of total phenols and hydrogen donating activity (reducing activity for $\alpha$, $\alpha$'-diphenyl-$\beta$ -picryhydrazyl) of water extracts form green tea increased as extraction temperatures increased from 50 to 9$0^{\circ}C$ and extraction times prolonged from 1 to 5 min. The contents of important free sugars such as sucrose and glucose slightly increased as the extraction time was prolonged, while little difference in the content of fructose with the prolonged extraction time. Catechins contents extracted from the commercial steamed green tea were increased at higher temperature and longer extraction time. Epigallocatechin (EGC) extracted from 9$0^{\circ}C$ (extraction time 5 min). presented 99.9 mg/g in highest composition of catechin followed by epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), epicatechin (EC), epicatechin gallate (ECg). The content of vitamin C extracted from green tea was increased about 2 times as the extraction temperature increased from 50 to 9$0^{\circ}C$ and as the extraction time increased from 1 to 5 min. with exception at 9$0^{\circ}C$(extraction time:5 min) which showed less vitamin C content than 7$0^{\circ}C$(extraction time : 3 min) probably due to possible destruction of vitamin C by high temperature.
This study was carried out to clarify the effect of addition of green tea powder on Dasik quality. The green tea powder was added as the ratio of 0%, 2%, 4%, 6% and 8%, respectively. The physio-chemical analysis and sensory test on the Dasik were performed. The flour and starch Dasik added to green tea powder showed lower moisture content compared to the non-added treatment, but the ash content was higher in the added Dasik. At the color test, Dasik of green tea powder showed lower L, a, and b value than the non-added treatment, respectively. These values were greatly decreased as the amount of green tea powder was increased. Addition of green tea powder had a tendency to show high hardness, cohesiveness, springiness, and gumminess but brittleness was low in the non-added treatment. Therefore, addition of green tea powder made Dasik texture more dense, and this tendency of texture was distinct at the flour Dasik compared to the starch Dasik. At the sensory test, surface color and green tea flavor were strong as the adding amount of green tea was increased, but sweetness was weak. There were not significant differences in the overall preference among 0%, 2% and 4% treatments, but the preference was greatly decreased from the above 6%. In conclusion, 4% addition of green tea powder would be the useful method to enhance quality of Dasik, and the flour Dasik showed better result than the starch Dasik.

Decision progress, plan content and planning division title of the master plan of the green in Kamakura City Japan were described. Conservation of the green and various effectiveness of the measure for realizing the green creation plan and the future development were discussed. It was indicated that the cooperation between citizens land owners and administration of the country, prefecture and city was important.
Quality characteristics of sausage added with green tea powder was studied to investigate the substitutive effect of green tea for nitrite. Residual nitrite, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS) and volatile basic nitrogen(VBN) contents of 9 different sausages prepared with 3 levels of nitrite(50, 100 or 150 ppm) and 3 levels of green tea(0, 0.5 or 1%) were measured during storage at l0$^{\circ}C$ for 6 weeks or 20$^{\circ}C$ for 14 days. Proximate compositions of the sausage were not affected by the addition level of green tea or nitrite. The lightness(L value) and redness(a value) of sausage decreased, while yellowness(b value) increased, with the addition of green tea powder. Residual nitrite content was lower in sausages containing green tea when prepared with same amount of nitrite, showing the addition of green tea powder has a beneficial effect on reducing the residual nitrite content in sausage. TBARS and VBN contents were lower in sausages with nitrite and green tea than those with nitrite alone. The TBARS and VBN lowering effects of green tea were higher in sausages prepared with low level of nitrite than those prepared with high amount of nitrite. The results suggest that the addition of green tea powder may reduce the residual nitrite content of sausage, and the use of green tea may also cut down the use of nitrite in the production of pork sausage with little deterioration in preservation.

Objective: This study was to evaluate the interaction of three different light-emitting diode (LED) light colors (white, green, and blue) and three intensities (5, 10, and 15 lx) on slaughter performance, meat quality and serum antioxidant capacity of broilers raised in three-layer cages. Methods: A total of 648 (8-days-old) male broiler chicks (Cobb-500) were randomly assigned in 3×3 factorially arranged treatments: three light colors (specifically, white, blue, and green) and three light intensities (namely, 5, 10, and 15 lx) for 35 days. Each treatment consisted of 6 replicates of 12 chicks. The test lasted for 35 days. Results: The semi-eviscerated weight percentage (SEWP) in 5 lx white was higher than that in 15 lx (p<0.01). The eviscerated weight percentage (EWP) (p<0.05) and water-loss percentage (WLP) (p<0.01) decreased in 10 lx white light than those in green light. Under blue light, the content of hypoxanthine (Hx) in muscle was lower than that under white and green light (p<0.01). The content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in 15 lx blue light was higher than that in 10 lx green light (p<0.05). Light color had an extremely significant effect on thigh muscle percentage, WLP, Hx, and crude protein content (p<0.01). Light intensity had a significant effect on SEWP (p<0.05), EWP (p<0.05), lightness (L*) value (p<0.05), WLP (p<0.01), and the contents of superoxide dismutase (p<0.05), MDA (p<0.01), glutathione peroxidase (p<0.01). Conclusion: Using white LED light with 10 lx light intensity can significantly improve the chicken quality of caged Cobb broilers, improve the content of inosine acid in chicken breast and enhance the antioxidant capacity of the body. We suggest that the broiler farm can use 10 lx white LED light source for lighting in 8 to 42 days.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of mulching materials in extensive green roof system by comparing and analyzing the soil moisture content and growth response of Lychnis cognata according to the types of organic mulching materials. The experimental group consisted of a control group that did not use mulching material (Cont.) and a total of five treatment groups, including cocochip (C.O), woodchip (W.O), straw (S.T), and sawdust (S.A), depending on the mulching material. The soil moisture content according to the type of organic mulching material was high in the order of W.O > S.T > Cont. > C.O > S.A, and there was a significant difference especially in S.A. The plant height showed good growth in the order of S.T > Cont. > C.O > W.O > S.A, and there was no significant difference by mulching materials in other growth items except for plant height. Both the chlorophyll and plant water contents were superior to those of untreated group, so the treatment of organic mulching materials is considered to be effective in maintaining the chlorophyll and plant water contents of Lychnis cognata. In particular, the soil moisture content was affected by the characteristics of the mulching material itself. Based on these results, it is required to use a mulching material suitable for the characteristics of each plant in extensive green roof system and it is considered that this can be overcome through organic mulching when selecting a plant species that is weak to water stress.
Extracts from bay leaves, Chongbaek (Allium fistulosum L.), Hutgae (Hovenia dulcis Thunb.) fruit, and green tea, using Soju (Korean alcohol, $30^{\circ}$) as a solvent were analyzed for their antioxidative properties. The eels were evenly coated with the extract concentration equivalent to 2% of their total weight and dried for 15 hours at $35^{\circ}C$ using an air blower. The DPPH radical scavenging effect, acid value and peroxide value of semi-dried eel, and linoleic acid peroxidation of eel oil were investigated. The highest level of DPPH radical scavenging was found in green tea extracts, followed by Hutgae fruit extract and bay leaves extract (p<0.05). The acid value and peroxide value of Hutgae fruit extracts coated eels refrigerated for 21 days were the lowest followed by the green tea extract coated eels. During the 20 days reaction period, all four kinds of extracts analyzed were found to effectively decrease linoleic acid peroxidation. Among them, Hutgae fruit and green tea extracts decreased the peroxide content of eel oil steadily and for a longer period when compared to other extracts. In conclusion, pre-application of Hutgae fruit and green tea extracts on eels before drying was found to be effective in delaying peroxidation in eels during the drying process and refrigeration.
