  • In order to produce an optimal traffic cycle. We must first check how many waiting cars are at the lower intersection, because waiting queue is bigger than the length of upper traffic intersection. Start up delay time and vehicle waiting time occurs. To reduce vehicle waiting time, in this paper, we present an optimal green time algorithm using fuzzy neural network. Through computer simulation has been proven to be improved average vehicle speed than fixed traffic signal light which do not consider different intersection conditions.

  • The purpose of this study was to test the effects of the pedestrian green signal adjustment on clearance of the turning vehicles impeding the through traffic flow at the signalized intersections, and thereby, suggest some operational criteria for adjustment of the pedestrian green signal. In order to test such effects, the pedestrian green time was adjusted so that it could started a few seconds later than the vehicle green time during peak hours, and thereby, the turning vehicle volume not cleared at the intersection was measured by extending the time gap by 2 seconds. (In general, the pedestrian green signal turns on at the same time as the vehicle green signal.) The results of this test can be summed up as follows; first, the longer the time gap was, the turning vehicle volume not cleared from the intersection decreased more. Second, in case there existed a storage space between intersection and crosswalk the effect of the turning vehicles on the through traffic flows was minimal. Third, at the pelican, the effect of the turning vehicles on the through traffic flow was minimal due to the structure of the intersection and the phase sequence. In conclusion, it was found that the adjustment of pedestrian green signal had the effect of enhancing the intersection operation. When adjusting the pedestrian green signal, it was deemed necessary to thoroughly survey the geometric structure of the intersection and collect the data on the turning traffic volume and thereby, apply the results of analysis flexibly to each intersection.

  • This study develops a passive traffic signal priority control algorithm for emergency vehicles. The passive priority control estimates and applies signal times for each signalized intersection on the emergency vehicle's route when an emergency call is received. As signals are controlled before the emergency vehicle leaves for its destination, it is possible to clear the queues at each intersection more effectively. Most of the previous studies applied preemption, which ends green time of cross streets when the emergency vehicle arrives at each intersection. This study applies green extension and early green in order not to shift the order of phases, and guarantees minimum green time for each phase. Simulation results show that the delay of emergency vehicles decreases when the signals are controlled. It is expected that delays can be decreased further by integrating the active priority control with the passive priority control algorithm presented in this study.

  • In this paper, we propose an effective method that recognizes the vehicle license plate using RGB color information and back-propagation neural network algorithm. First, the image of the vehicle license plate is adjusted by the Mean of Blue values in the vehicle plate and two candidate areas of Red and Green region are classified by calculating the differences of pixel values and the final Green area is searched by back-propagation algorithm. Second, our method detects the area of the vehicle plate using the frequence of the horizontal and the vertical histogram. Finally, each of codes are detected by an edge detection algorithm and are recognized by error back-propagation algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed extraction and recognition method, we have run experiments on a new car plates. Experimental results showed that the proposed license plate extraction is better than that of existing HSI information model and the overall recognition was effective.

  • This study investigated the impact of vehicle grade operation restrictions in green transportation areas on the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) year by year. The results indicate that these restrictions positively affected the reduction of PM2.5 levels. The green transportation area policy reduced vehicle emissions and encouraged the use of public and eco-friendly transportation, thereby improving air quality. A notable outcome was the decrease in PM2.5 concentrations, which is expected to positively impact the health of residents in urban areas. The study considered various factors and variables related to the effectiveness of the vehicle grade operation restrictions policy. It was determined that there is a need to discuss the implementation methods of the policy, regional characteristics, and other environmental factors. These findings provide important implications for managing fine particulate matter and urban planning, suggesting that reference materials and ongoing research will be necessary considering future urban sustainability.

  • The conventional traffic light loses the function of optimal traffic signal cycle. And so, 30-45% of conventional traffic signal cycle is not matched to the present traffic signal cycle. In this paper proposes electro sensitive traffic light using fuzzy rules which will reduce the average vehicle waiting time and improve average vehicle speed. This paper is researching the storing method of 40 different kinds of sensor input conditions. Such as, car speed, delay· in starting time and the volume of cars in the real traffic situation. It will estimate the optimal green time in the 10 different intersections using Intelligent fuzzy method. Computer simulation results prove that reducing the average vehicle waiting time and offset better than fixed signal method which doesn't consider vehicle length.

  • A fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) could be an alternative solution to gasoline powered vehicles. The Korean and Japanese governments have played the midwifery role in the development of the FCEV industry. This study explores the difference in policy goals for FCEV between the two countries. Koreans recognized that FCEV was innovative technology and put forward the notion of technology pre-occupancy. Whereas, the Japanese government discovered that FCEV was one way to apply hydrogen mechanisms, so they identified the supply of hydrogen as one of the industries of interest, and have played the demiurge role. This study suggests that the role of government is to introduce eco-friendly vehicles, using the cases of Korean and Japanese governments, who introduced FCEV to the world first.

  • In this paper, we propose an image processing based method to measure red-time and green-time backward moving shockwave speed automatically at signalized intersections. Shockwave means the discontinuous boundary line between different vehicle traffic flows, and its moving speed is called shockwave speed which is obtain from the slope of boundary line. In this paper, we compose distance-time diagram for measuring shockwave speed automatically. By global vehicle tracking, we draw all of the vehicle moving path on distance-time diagram. We analyze the slope change pattern of curved moving path line, and compute red-time and green-time backward moving shockwave speed. We obtain the measurement result of shockwave speed, when applying above mentioned proposed method to experiment at signalized intersections, Once we can measure the shockwave speed, we could apply the result to highway ramp metering and automatic signal control at intersections effectively since we know the situation of frontal congestion easily.
