  • One of the most significant feature of diagnostic ultrasonic instrument is to display information on the soft tissues in the body in real time. In this paper we carried out basic study on the digital moving image processing for tracing the movement of heart valves in echocardiograms. Digital moving image file was made from analog echocardiograms and it was remade as 256 gray-level images on each frame. The ROI(Region of interest) was placed on a heart valve region to process images efficiently. Images were processed by the use of image enhancement filters and morphology filters. The result shows that the processed images were more enhanced than original images. When a moving image is reconstructed by using these enhanced images, we can trace the movement of heart valves more easily. In this study we proposed the availability of the moving image reconstruction using enhancement images.

  • In anatomical aspects, magnetic resonance image offers more accurate information than other medical images such as X ray, ultrasonic and CT images. This paper introduces a method that segments and detects lesion for 2 dimensional axial MR brain images automatically. Image segmentation process consists of 2 stages. First stage extracts cerebrum region using thresholding and morphology. In the second stage, white matter, gray matter and cerebrospinal fluid in the cerebrum are extracted using FCM, We could improve processing time as removing uninterested region. Finally symmetry measure and anatomical Knowledge are used to detect lesion.

  • Sequential object analysis are playing vital role in real time application in computer vision and object detections.Measuring the similarity in two images are very important issue any authentication activities with how best to compare two independent images. Identification of similarities of two or more sequential images is also the important in respect to moving of neighborhoods pixels. In our study we introduce the morphological and shared near neighborhoods concept which produces a sufficient results of comparing the two images with objects. Considering the each pixel compare with 8-connectivity pixels of second image. For consider the pixels we expect the noise removed images are to be considered, so we apply the morphological transformations such as opening, closing with erosion and dilations. RGB of pixel values are compared for the two sequential images if it is similar we include the pixels in the resultant image otherwise ignore the pixels. All un-similar pixels are identified and ignored which produces the similarity of two independent images. The results are produced from the images with objects and gray levels. It produces the expected results from our process.

  • Attempts were made to determine the characteristics of the morphology of Codonopsis lanceolata $T_{RAUT's}$ root. Its saponin and crude powder were examined by foaming and hemolytic tests and by observing transverse sections: 1) The cork-layer was consisted of multiple cells, and some of the cork cells contained monoclinic prism crystals of calcium oxalates. 2) The vascular bundle was formed of radial arrangement by the preminentic bursting pith and the irregular cambium ring with the abnormal growth. 3) The latex vessel and latex of the cortex were brown-gray or yellowish-brown. The latex vessel and sieve tube were consisted of the independent aggregates which had a number of layers. It had much more independent aggregates than Platycodi Radix. 4) The xylem was less than the phloem portion. The thick-walled vessels which had one to five lines ware more distributed than in Platycodi Radix. 5) The inulin distribution on a piece of section which is dipped in alcohol was observed through out the tissues, but starch grain was not found in it. 6) The duration time of foaming reaction of the crude powder in test tubes was shorter than that of Platycodi Radix. Foaming index of the foaming test of five percent decoctions was 3.33, 7) In the hemolytic test which used 10 percent decoction and one percent saponin solution, hemolytic action was very weak.

  • Leptochiton Gray, 1847 is one of the most ancient chiton groups which includes more than 130 species that occur in cold and deep waters worldwide. Due to their small-sized body, they are often confused as juveniles of other chiton species. Moreover, lack of morphological information makes species identification of this group very challenging. To date, only two Leptochiton species(L. fuliginatus and L. rugatus) have been reported from Korean waters. In this study, we found L. hakodatensis(Thiele, 1909) for the first time in Korea and described microscopic morphological characters of valves (tegmentum sculpture), girdle scale, and radula using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Leptochiton hakodatensis is morphologically similar to L. fuliginatus and L. rugatus, but differently characterized by having dorso-ventrally rounded (not carinated) intermediate valves, girdle (perinotum) scales sculptured with 4-7 longitudinal ribs, and bicuspid major lateral teeth of radula. In addition to morphological examination, we determined the partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(cox1) as a DNA barcode sequence information. This is the first report that describes microscopic characters (tegmentum of valves, girdle structure, and radula) of L. hakodatensis using a SEM. This study provides a morphological basis for describing Leptochiton species and discovery of a "hidden" species of this genus.

  • For the research of the natural antioxidant from marine sources, an antioxidant-producing marine actinomycetes was isolated from sea water in Jeju coastal area. The strain was identified based on 16S rDNA sequencing, the morphology by a method of scanning electron microscopy, physiological and biochemical characteristics and cellular fatty acid analysis. The isolated strain ACT-1 cell size was $0.5\sim1.0{\mu}m$ and gram positive, aerobic, nonmotile, substrate mycelium are red and gray aerial mycelium. 16S rRNA sequence analysis showed that were Gram-positive bacteria grouped on Streptomyces genus. Results of cellular fatty acid analysis showed that major cellular fatty acids were $C_{15:0}$ anteiso (39.33%), $C_{16:1}$ cis 9 (11.96%), $C_{16:0}$ (13.08%) and $C_{17:0}$ anteiso (10.99%). Finally, strain was identified Streptomyces sp. ACT-1. The antioxidant activity of methanol extract from Streptomyces sp. ACT-1 was evaluated by measuring DPPH, hydroxyl, and alkyl radical scavenging activity using an electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometer. DPPH radical scavenging activity of SBME-1 (Streptomyces broth methanol extract) was 67% at $1,000{\mu}g$/ml. Hydroxyl radical scavenging activity of SBME-1 was 84% at $500{\mu}g$/ml. Alkyl radical scavenging activity of SBME-1 was 71% at $1,000{\mu}g$/ml.

  • One of the most significant features of diagnostic ultrasonic instruments is to provide real time information of the soft tissues movements. Echocardiogram has been widely used for diagnosis of heart diseases since it is able to show real time images of heart valves and walls. However, the currently used ultrasonic images are deteriorated due to presence of speckle noises and image dropout. Therefore, it is very important to develop a new technique which can enhance ultrasonic images. In this study, a technique which extracts enhanced binary images in echocardiograms was proposed. For this purpose, a digital moving image file was made from analog echocardiogram, then it was stored as 8-bit gray-level for each frame. For an efficient image processing, the region containing the heat septum and tricuspid valve was selected as the region of interest(ROI). Image enhancement filters and morphology filters were used to reduce speckle noises in the images. The proposed procedure in this paper resulted in binary images with enhanced contour compared to those form the conventional threshold technique and original image processing technique which can be further implemented for the quantitative analysis of the left ventricular wall motion in echocardiogram by easy detection of the heart wall contours.

  • In this paper, a scheme of classification of scaled textured images using normalized pattern spectrum incorporating arbitrary scale changes based on mathematical morphology is proposed in more general environments considering camera's zoom-in and zoom-out function. The normalized pattern spectrum means that firstly pattern spectrum is calculated and secondly interpolation is performed to incorporate scale changes according to scale change ratio in the same textured image class. Pattern spectrum is efficiently obtained by using both opening and closing, that is, we calculate pattern spectrum by opening method for pixels which have value more than threshold and calculate pattern spectrum by closing method for pixels which have value less than threshold. Also we compare classification accuracy between gray scale method and binary method. The proposed approach has the advantage of efficient information extraction, high accuracy, less computation, and parallel implementation. An important advantage of the proposed method is that it is possible to obtain high classification accuracy with only (1:1) scale images for training phase.
