Strategical Postures for Relieving EMG Amplitude Discrepancy on Bilateral Low Back Muscles and Total Low Back Muscle Fatigue while Lifting Asymmetric Load Dynamically (비대칭무게중심 물체의 동적 들기 작업시 좌.우 허리 근육의 EMG 진폭차이와 피로를 줄이기 위한 자세 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest the strategical lifting postures able to alleviate imbalanced EMG amplitude leading to an increase in low back muscle fatigue while lifting asymmetric load dynamically. Eleven male subjects are required to lift symmetrically an external load with 15.8kg and load center of gravity (LCG) deviated 10cm to the right from the floor to the waist height at the speed of about 25cm/sec. The EMG amplitudes on bilateral low back muscles (Longissimus, Iliocostalis, and Multifidus) are recorded during 2sec and analyzed. Independent variables are trunk postures (No bending vs. Bending to the LCG) and feet placements (Parallel vs. Right foot in front of the other vs. Right foot behind the other). Dependent variables are EMG amplitude average on six muscles and the EMG amplitude difference between right and left muscle group. Results indicate the phenomenon showing an amplitude increase in the left muscle group is equal to an decrease in the right one is observed in dynamic as well as static lifts, bending the trunk to the LCG increases amplitude discrepancy more than no trunk bending, and the amplitude discrepancy in one foot ipsilateral to LCG in front of the other foot is lowest among other foot postures. As bilateral EMG amplitude discrepancy increases total low back muscle fatigue, the strategical combination of no trunk bending and one foot close to LCG in front of the other is recommended for preventing elevated incidence of low back pain (LBP).

  • In comparison with thermosetting rubber, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) has various advantages such as simple processing, short cycle time and recycling of scrap. These advantages can lead to development of the high value-added rubber products due to reduction of the waste material, manufacturing cost and the defected product. This article involves a dynamic vulcanization method for EPDM/polypropylene blend, and the manufacturing of a fixed glass weather-strip by glass insert molding method using the blend. In order to investigate mechanical properties of the product, tensile strength, elongation, hardness and specific gravity were measured. Also morphological study was carried out using SEM. Developments of an efficient system of production and automatic process by molding of TPE and glass simultaneously are expected.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Pound Cake Added with $\beta-Glucan$ ($\beta-Glucan$ 첨가 Pound Cake의 이화학적$\cdot$관능적 특성)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the physicochemical characteristics of pound cake made of substituted flour with different amount of $\beta-glucan$ i.e. 3, 6 and $9\%$ respectively. $\beta-glucan$ is a functional food material produced from Agrobacterium sup. R259 KCTC 10197BP. The specific gravity and pH of dough were found to be increased according to $\beta-glucan$ content Rheological property such as adhesiveness of dough has no difference between control and $\beta-glucan$ added groups. The pH of baked pound cake was not significantly different between control and $\beta-glucan$ groups. The volume of baked pound cake wag not significantly different between control and the ones with up to $6\%$ $\beta-glucan$, Lightness (L), redness (a) and yellowness (b) value of Hunter color system of cake crumb were not significantly different among teated groups, except a value of crust in $9\%$ $\beta-glucan$ group. the moisture content of cake increased according to $\beta-glucan$ content. Hardness by texture analyser was decreased with increasing $\beta-glucan$ content although cohesiveness wag not changed in β$\beta-glucan$ groups, compared with the control. Sensory evaluation results showed that the mean scores of over·all acceptability in 3 and $6\%$ $\beta-glucan$ were higher than that of control. Based on these results, the addition of $\beta-glucan$ to pound cake up to $6\%$ was considered to be desirable especially in terms of texture.

  • On the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Construction of No. 3, 4 Line, the total length is 57 Km and it is now undergoing almost 55% progress. The working method is classified into Open Cut of 70% and the rest of 30% tunnelling method in the 48 job site. Above tunnelling method is execute by American Steel Support System and the rest of 10 job site carried out by New Austria Tunnelling Method. This paper describes Blasting Standardizations works on the above Tunnelling ' Open Cut Method under big slogan, first safety, second execution. As a superintendent, I strived standardization of works with Better powder, Better Drills ' Better Pattern. Geological structure of Seoul area is composed by Jurassic Granite and also the above rockgroup are over burden by Alluviums as a Unconformity. First of all, I carried out the standard amount of powder and burden through experimental standard blasting by each powder as following Blasting works in the subway construction is surrounding shop Building, under pass the city river and also under pass highest building basement floor. I made allowable Blasting Vibration Value by West-Germany Vornorm DIN 4150, Teil 3 and should measure each blasting works as fellows all of powder is used basically Low-Gravity and Low Velocity such as Slurry, Ammonium Nitrate ' Finex I, II. for Smooth Blasting Instead of Gelatin Dynamite. Electric Detonation Cap is used basically M/S Delay Cup instead of Electric delay ' Simultaneous cap. Low-Power Walking Compensation Method for Biped Robot Based on Consumption Energy Analysis (소비 에너지 분석을 통한 이족로봇의 저전력 보행 보정 기법)

  • In this paper we propose a low-power walking compensation method for biped robot based on consumption energy analysis. Firstly, basic walking motions that can reduce energy consumption of robot movements are implemented based on consumption energy analysis according to robot axes. We define knee bent motion as a basic walking motion. It can improve energy consumption and motion stability by lowering center of gravity of the biped robot. We analyze consumption energy of left and right leg of the robot using motor currents and propose a compensation method of walking motions to reduce unbalance of consumption energy between left leg and right leg. It can also improve energy consumption and walking stability of the robot. The proposed low-power compensation method based on consumption energy analysis is verified by walking experiments of a small biped robot with an embedded system.

  • Defining and measuring non-rigid or flexible parts has been controversial in industry for many years. There are two primary areas of controversy. The first is agreeing on what exactly a non-rigid part is. The second is agreeing on how to define and measure a non-rigid part. The subject of non-rigid parts is further complicated by the brief coverage it receives in the national and international standards. This leaves each company to improvise or create its own rules for non-rigid parts. There are some who believe that Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) should not be used on non-rigid parts. This is not true. The ASME Y14.5M standard applies to rigid parts as a default condition. However, there is no definition given for a rigid part. The term rigid part has been used in industry for so long that it has gained a definition by its general use. When most people in industry say rigid part, they are referring to a part doesn't move (deform or flex) when a force (including gravity) is applied. How much force is relative based on the part characteristics. In reality, all parts will deform (or flex) if enough force is applied. Using this logic, all parts would be considered non-rigid. However, we all know that this is not how parts are treated in industry. Although GD&T defaults to rigid parts, it should also be used on non-rigid parts with a few special techniques. Actually 50~60% of all products designed contain parts or features on parts that are non-rigid. Therefore, we try to suggest the definitions of rigid and non-rigid parts and method to measure non-rigid parts.

  • The centrifugal separator which uses gravity separation method for oil-water separation, rotating at high-speed, is one of the most commonly used device for controlling the amount of the oil in waste water collected in bilge. The IMO (International Maritime Organization) has set regulations, also known as MARPOL 73/78, for the prevention of marine pollution. In addition, DET NORSKE VERITAS (DNV) has set standards regarding the assignment of Environmental Class Notation, CLEAN or CLEAN DESIGN, of ships. One of the requirements for classification is that in addition to conforming to MARPOL 73/78, more stringent measures must be taken as well. One of these measures is to limit the oil concentration in bilge water to less than 5ppm. So in this study, an Oil-Water Separator (OWS) is used together with multiple separating plates as a filtration system to be used as an oil-water separation device. The OWS operates using centrifugal separation in which the mixture is separated by centrifugal forces. The main purpose of this paper is to present the OWS separation efficiency according to the rotation speed, mass-flow rate, the angle and the number of stacked layers of the laminated plate using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Improvements to the device will be investigated from these results.

Relationship between Forward Head Posture and Craniomandibular Disorders (두개하악장애와 두부전방자세와의 관계)

  • This study was performed to investigate the relationship between Forward Head Posture(FHP) and Craniomandlbular Disorders(CMDs). Many studies reported that there was some relationship between them, however, there is still controversy. So It Is necessary to observe and compare many more patients with CMDs wirh normal controls. For the study 85 patients with CMDs and 37 dental students were selected as experimentals and controls, respectively. And the experimentals were classified Into two groups, that is, TMJ internal derangement group and muscle disorders group according to clinical diagnosis. For measuring the FHP, CROM(Cervical-Range-of-Notion)was used. This goniometer is composed of three part. First, gravity goniometer for flexion and extension. Second, magnetic compass and yoke for rotational movement. And last, forward head arm and vertebra locator for forward head posture. Next T-Scan, electronic occlusal analyzer, was used for recording of occlusal contact state. Other items such as maximum opening, lateral excursion, Helkimo's anamnestic index, and muscle palpation point from Friction's craniomandibular index were checked clinically by one examiner. The result of this study were as follows : 1. In male, control group showed much more measurement in resting forward head posture than did experimental group. But there were not significant differences between groups in female subject. From this results, the author contended that CROM is new measuring system and differ from other goniometers in some aspect, so that results should be re-evaluated 2. Mean value of maximum mouth opening in nearly all groups were greater than 40mm. and mouth opening had a significant correlation with occlusal force and with anamnestic index both sex. 3. Mean value of palpation point had not any correlationship with forward head posture in both sex, but there was significant difference between upper and lower group by rounded shouldes. 4. In summary, there was no significant relationship between forward head posture and sign and symptom of Craniomandibular Disorders.

  • Two liquids which are generally used as fuels of rockets are mixed and their mixing process is quantitatively investigated by the use of particle image velocimetry (PIV). As working fluids for the liquid mixing, Dimethylfuran (DMF) and JetA1 oils have been used. Since the specific gravity of DMF is larger than that of JetA1 oil, the DMF oil has been set at the lower part of the JetA1 oil. For better visualization of the mixing process, Rhodamin B powder has been blended into the DMF oil. An agitator having 3 blades has been used for mixing the two liquids. For quantitative visualization, a LCD monitor has been used as a light source. A color camera, camcoder, has been used for recording the mixing process. The images captured by the camcoder have been digitized into three color components, R, G, and B. The color intensities of R, G, and B have been used as the inputs of the neural network of which hidden layer has 20 neurons. Color-to-concentration calibration has been performed before commencing the main experiments. Once this calibration is completed, the temporal changes of the concentration of the DMF has been quantitatively analyzed by using the constructed measurement system.

Triboelectrostatic Separation of Mixed Three Kinds of Plastics by a Two-stage Separation Process (2단계(段階) 분리공정(分離工程)에 의한 3종(種) 혼합(混合)플라스틱의 마찰하전(摩擦荷電) 정전선별(靜電選別))

  • Triboelectrostatic separation of mixed three kinds of plastics, PVC, PET and PMMA, in the range of similar gravity has been performed through a two-stage separation process. Polypropylene (PP) and high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) were found to be the most effective materials for a tribo-charger in the separation of PVC, PET and PMMA. In the 1st stage using the PP cyclone charger, PVC grade and recovery depended considerably on the air velocity (10 m/s), the relative humidity (<30%), the electric field (>200 kV/m) and the splitter position (+2 cm from the center) in the triboelelctrostatic separator unit. At an optimum condition a PVC grade of 99.6% and a recovery of 97.5% was achieved. In the 2nd stage using the HIPS cyclone charger, a PMMA grade of 98.3% and a recovery of 97.0% was obtained under the conditions of 10m/s air velocity, over 250 kV/m electric field, central splitter position and less than 40% relative humidity.
