  • The first zoeal characters of plagusiine crab Plagusia dentipes De Haan, 1835, belonging to the family Grapsidae, is described and illustrated in detail based on laboratory-hatched material from an ovigerous female collected from Bomok, Seogwipo in the Jejudo Island. Morphological comparison is made with previous description of Plagusia dentipes from Japan. The first zoea of Plagusia dentipes can be readily distinguished from those of two species of Plagusia chabrus and Plagusia depressa by having 2 aesthetascs and 3 simple setae on the antennule, and 8 setae on the coxal endite of the maxilla.

  • One ovigerous crab of Hemigrapsus longitarsis (Miers, 1879) was collected in Jeju Island, Korea and their larvae were reared in the laboratory. Five zoeal and one megalopal stages are described and illustrated in detail. Morphology of the zoeas slightly differs from that in the previous record. Within the genus Hemigrapsus, H. longitarsis shows similarity closer to H. sanguineus and H. penicillatus than to H. sinensis based on the zoeal morphology. The zoeas of H. longitarsis can be distinguished from those of the two other species in having a dorsal carapace spine with minute spinules which is naked in H. sanguineus and H. penicillatus. A provisional key is provided to aid the identification of the grapsid zoeas in Korea.

  • The complete larval development of Chiromantes haematocheir was obtained by laboratory rearing. Five zoeal and one megalopal stages are described and illustrated in detail. Morphological characteristics of the larvae slightly differ from those of Lee (1988), especially in the setal presence of mouthpart appendages. Seven sesarminid zoeas (Parasesarma acis, Parasesarma pictum, Perisesarma bidens, Sesarmops intermedius, Chiromantes dehaani, Chiromantes haematocheir, and Nanosesarma gordoni) can be distinguished from each other in characters of the carapace spines, the antennal exopod and the fork of telson. A provisional key is first provided to aid the identification of seven sesarminid zoeas in Korea.

  • The complete larval development of Enocheir japonicus De Haan reared in the laboratory is described and illustrated. E. japonicus passes through 5 zoeal stages before metamorphosis to the megalopal stage. The megalopa and crab I inStar are attained in 17 and 27 days after hatching, respectively. The culture was carried out under a photoperiod of 14 h light and 10 h dark and a constant temperature of $25^{\circ}C$. Morphological charaderistics of each larval stage of this species are compared with those of E. japonicus from Japan. Morphological features between zoea I of the Varuninae are briefly discussed.

  • The complete larval development of Hemigrapsus penicillatus(De Haan, 1835) from hatching to first crab stage was obtained by culture in the laboratory. Under culture conditions with salinity 33.3% , temperature $25^{\circ}C$, and photophase 14/10 h light/dark, the megalopa and the first crab instar were attained in minimum of 18 and 29 days after hatching respectively. Five zoeal stages and a megalopal stage are described and illustrated in detail. Morphological characters of H. penicillatus larvae were compared with those of other members within the subfamily Varuninae. Morphological differences among H. penicillatus, H. sanguineus and H. sinensis in megalopal stage are tabulated.

  • The larval stages of Hemigrapsus sanguineus were reared in the laboratory and described with illustrative figures. Five zoeal and one megalopal stages were found in the complete larval development. At 25^{\circ}C.$, the megalopa and the first crab instar were attained in 18 and 31 days after hatching, respectively. The first zoeal larva of H. sanguineus showed the characteristics ~ h i c h coincide with those of the same genus by bearing lateral spines on carapace, B-types of telson and antenna, 1 +5 setae on the endopod of maxillule, and 2 + 2 setae on the endopod of maxilla. Morphological features of H. sanguineus larvae were compared to the previous descriptions of larvae of the same genus and morphological differences among them were discussed.

  • The complete larval development of the Korean grapsid crab, Acmaeopleura parvula Stimpson, from hatching to first crab was described and illustrated. Larvae were reared in 12 different combinations of temperature and salinity, and passed through five (uncommonly six) zoeal and a megalopal stage. Best survival to first crab stage occurred in $ 20^{\circ}C-31.4\%_{\circ}$. Development to first crab was 22-23 days $(at\;25^{\circ}C)$, 34-37 days $(at\;20^{\circ}C)$ and 50-51 days $(at\;15^{\circ}C)$. Additional sixth zoeae were obtained only at $15^{\circ}C$. Larvae of A. parvula were distinguished from the larvae of other Varuninae in the absence of lateral carapace spines and were morphologically similar to Caetice depressus (De Haan). Other characters of appendages were compared with those of the known larvae of the subfamily Varuninae.
