In this study, we peformed ahead a field geological investigation, boring investigation for slope stability analysis in large scale slope failure area. But the geological stratum was not clearly grasped, because ground was very disturbed by large scale Granite intrusion. Furthermore, the existing test data was not pertinent to the large scale Granite intrusion site like here. Therefore, various kind of field test were performed to grasp clearly for geological stratum. And the results of back analysis, various kind tests used to slope stability analysis.
In the metapelites around the Ogcheon granite, the metamorphic grade increases from the biotite zone through the andalusite zone to the sillimanite zone towards the intrusion contact. In the metabasites around the Boeun granite, the metamorphic grade increases from transitional zone between the greenchist and amphibolite facies through the amphibolite facies to the upper amphibolite facies towards the intrusion contact. In the Doiri area locating near the intrusion contact of the Boeun granite, sillimanite- and andalusite-bearing metapelites are found with in 500 m away from the contact. The evidence described above indicates that the Ogcheon and Boeun granites caused low-P/T type contact metamorphism to the country rocks. The P-T condition of contact metamorphism due to the intrusion of the Ogcheon granite is $540{\pm}40^{circ}C, 2.8{\pm}0.9$ kb. The temperature condition of contact metamorphism due to the intrusion of the Boeun granite is $698{\pm}28^{\circ}C$. The wide compositional range of amphibole and plagioclase in the metabasites around the Boeun granite is due to the immisibility gab of amphibole and plagioclase and unstable relict composition resulted from an incomplete metamorphic reaction. The compositional range of stable amphibole and plagioclase decreases as a metamorphic grade increases due to a close of immiscibility gab. The thermal effect of contact metamorphism due to the intrusion of the Ogcheon and Boeun granites, are calculated using the CONTACT2 program based on a two dimensional finite difference method. In order to estimate the thermal effect of an introduced pluton, a circle with 10 km diameter and a triangle with 20 km side are used for the intrusion geometries of the Ogcheon granite and the Boeun granite, respectively. The results from the field and modeling studies suggest that the intrusion temperatures of the Ogcheon granite close to $800^{\circ}C$ and the intrusion temperature of the Boeun granite is higher than $1000^{\circ}C$. However, the intrusion temperatures can be lower than the suggested temperature, if the geothermal gradient prior to the intrusion of the Ogcheon and Boeun granites was higher than the normal continental grothermal gradient.
The Bulgugsa acidic igneous rocks of the late Cretaceous age are largely distributed in Busan area, which is located in the southeastern corner of the Korean Peninsula. These igneous rocks comprise in ascending order, felsite, dacitic-rhyolitic welded tuffs, granite porphyry and granitic rocks. The former three members represent the early phase of volcanic activities, so that they are named as Jangsan volcanic rocks. The granitic rocks consist of granodiorite, hornblende biotite granite, Kumjongsan granite, fine grained granite, and Daebyen granite, represent the late phase of igneous activities. The Kumjongsan grainte, the largest pluton of the granitic mass, emplaced between two great vertical faults trending NNE. New chemical analyses of 33 rock samples of these acidic rocks are given. Their chemical compositions are generally similar to those of the late Mesozoic acidic igneous rocks of the northern Ashio mountains, and C-Zone granite group of the Ogcheon geosyncline, with their characteristic variation trends of several oxides. Their chemical compositions also show that $Al_2O_3$ is high value, and differentiation index is high, too. Systematically developing joints in Kumjungsan granite are divisible into two types at least. One is the NS-N $20^{\circ}E$ trendirig, $85^{\circ}{\sim}90^{\circ}$ dipping type of joint system which coincides with the trends of distribution of the granite mass and the dikes intruding this granite. Joints of this type may be cooling joints generated as tension cracks. The other is the $N60^{\circ}{\sim}70^{\circ}W$ or $N40^{\circ}{\sim}60^{\circ}E$ trending type of joint systems. It is considered that. joints belonging to this type may be shear joint occurring under the state of south-north tectonic couple acting at the east and west side of the granite mass. Igneous activities of the the Bulgugsa acidic igneous rocks in Busan area was taken place as. follows, formation of the magma reservoir, eruption and intrusion of felsite, consolidation of vents. and increasing vapor pressure in magma reservoir, eruption of pyroclastic flows, caldera collapse, intrusion of granite porphyry, and intrusion of granitic rocks at the latest stage.
The CSD (crystal size distribution) of diopside crystals in the calc-silicate hornfels of the Hwanggangni Formation intruded by the Cretaceous Daeyasan granite shows the patterns of continuous nucleation and growth. There is correlation between the distance from the intrusion contact and the slopes from the linear part of log(population density) vs. size diagrams. In the log(population density) vs. size diagrams of the samples systematically collected from the intrusion contact, two different groups are recognized; the slopes for the samples near the intrusion contact (horizontal distance from the contact less than 50m) are gentler (1500$cm^{-1}$) than those for the samples away from the intrusion contact (2500$cm^{-1}$, distance from the contact greater than 100 m). These differences may reflect the differences in growth rates and crystallization time, or the differences in diopside-forming reactions. All of the log(population density) vs. size diagrams show depletion of smaller crystals. The observed depletion may be due to Ostwald ripening or the changes in nucleation rates as the reactant phases diminishes. Similar grouping is also possible for the observed degree of depletion of smaller crystals; the depletion decreases with increasing distance from the intrusion contact, suggesting temperature-dependent rates of Ostwald ripening.
This studg is to clarify intrusion sequence and petrogenetic processes of the so-called schistose granites in the northeastheastern part of the Kwangju, Chonnam Province. The study area is composed of the Pre-cambrian and Unknown age metasediments, the Unknown age schistose granites and basic plutons, the Cretaceous sedimentary and volcanic rocks, and the Cretaceous Ogang-ri granite and dykes. The schistose granites of the study area is divided into three rock units based on relative intrusion age, mineralogical constituent and texture;SoonChang schistose granite, two mica granite and Sam-o-ri schistose granite. The schistose granites intruded into metasediments, are intruded by Ogang-ri granite and dikes, and overlain by the Cretaceous sedimentary and volcanic rocks. The schistose granites vary widely in composition (granite-granodiorite-tonalite) and content of porphyroblastic feldspar Caugen and rectangular shaped). The foliation of schistose granites shows similar trend to the Shinian direction. In especially, strong foliation reflects dynamic metamorphism by mortar texture and much content of well oriented biotite. These schistose granites are characterized by its gray feldspar porphyroblasts. This feldspar is considered to be formed by potassic metasomatism and assimilation of pelitic metasediments of unexposed highly metamorphosed rocks deeply buried under the level of the schistose granites emplacement. Variation of silica versus oxides of major elements shows that the schistose granites are similar to the trend of Daly's average basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite which shows the trend of the fractional crystallization of magma. AMF diagram shows that the schistose granite is corresponded to contaminated differentiation products such as Lower California batholith and Cascade lava. These evidence suggest that the schistose granite is a series of differentiation products formed by fractional crystallization that associated with srtongly contamination and potassic metasomatism.
Granitic complex in the Woosanbong area is composed of schistose granite, two-mica granite, biotite granite, porphyritic granite and pink feldspar granite in order of intrusion. In their boundary aspects, the gradational change between porphyritic granite and pink feldspar granite is observed in field relations. All the granites of the complex are classified to quartz monzonite by the modal compositions following Bateman's classification (1961) with the exception of pink feldspar granite which belongs to granite according to the petrographical classification. The first three granites are characterized by highly development of vein and/or lens-like pegmatites in their bodies, and two others contain green hornblende uniquely. These leucocratic two-mica granite shows an unusual character in ratio of muscovite to biotite 1: 0.7 to 1:13, and contains dominantly microcline. The content of muscovite varies in places in the field. Under the polarizing microscope it is revealed that the muscovite flakes occur as the products altered from biotite partly or completely, and it usually associates with chlorite flakes nearby. These features, therefore, suggests that biotite probably has been altered to muscovite and chlorite by hydration during deuteric processes. At the same stage, sericitization of plagioclase by the hydrolytic decomposition, and transformation of orthoclase to microcline may be taken place. Accordingly, it is obviously permissible to consider the two-mica granite as a kind of 'apo-granite' by deuteric alterations during the consolidation of magma.
The Jecheon granite mass has turtle-shape exposure of about $190km^2$ at vicinity of Jecheon-eup, and is elongated in the direction of NEE-SWW. It discordantly intrudes the Bakdalryong metamorphic rocks and the great limestone series(Samtaesan and Hungwolri formation) which belong to the pre-Cambrian and Ordovician, respectively. The mass is composed of five facies of different grain size; texture and charecteristic minerals. The five facies are (1) coarse grained biotite granodiorite, (2) fine grained hornblende biotite granodiorite, (3) coarse grained pink feldspar granodiorite (4) leucogranite, and (5) porphyritic biotite granite. The mutual relationship between each facies is intrusion in (1)-(2) and (2)-(3), but unknown in (3)-(4) and (4)-(5). 22 modal analyses and and 10 chemical analyses on more than a hundred of representative samples taken from the mass are listed as tables. Triangular plot of modal and normative Q-Kf-Pl of this mass show a continuous differentiation products from certain common magma by change of chemical composition and anorthite contents in plagioclase. The metamorphic facies of contact aureole in surrounding rocks adjacent to the granite body are corresponded to hornblende hornfels facies with mineral assemblages of wollastonite-diopside-calcite in calcareous rocks, and of quartz-biotite-muscovite-cordierite in argillaceous rocks. Variation of silica versus oxides of major elements shows that the mass is similar to the trend of Daly's average basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite which shows the trend of the fractional crystallization of magma, and is equivalent to the calc-alkali rock series by Peacock. AMF diagram shows that Jecheon granite mass is equivalent to normal diffentiation products such as skaergaard intrusion. The above evidences suggest that the Jecohon granite mass is normal differentiation products formed by fractional crystallization under relatively slow cooling condition.
This paper is the result of a petrochemical study on the Jongam granite mass which intruded metasediments of Ogcheon zone, locating about 10km northwest from Miweon town, and the mass is $2.5km^2$ in area. In this study, the granite was petrographically analysed in such ways, modal analysis, myrmekite analysis, petrochemical study analysis and tectonic analysis of joint system. The findings are as follows: 1) The area of the granite distributed is a basin surrounded by metasediments. The granite is magma origin. 2) The major mineral composition of the granite are quartz, plagioclase, microcline orthoclase and biotite, and accessaries are muscovite, sericite, magnetite, zircon and sphene. 3) In triangles of $Qu-K{\cdot}fp-PI$, Bi-Or-Hb+Mt and Qu-Ab-Or, the data point areas are similar to those of the NW zone of D.S. Lee (1971) 4) The granite mass can be divided into three granites; quartz monzonite, granodiorite and biotite granite, by petrological aspect in detail. 5) It shows inverse ratio of content between quartz and plagioclase. 6) The myrmekite-texture of the granite are stem type and dominating in northern part. 7) In the tectonic analysis of joint, the strikes are almost constant in direction, N-S direction of dominant joints 8) The geological age of the granites estimated to be Jurassic in age. 9) According to the mineralogical distribution and joint systen, the intrusion direction of the granite magma was infered as from north to south.
The characteristic features of mylonitic granite in the Unbong-Ayoung area is as follow; (1) Mylonitic granite is a shearing product from porphyritic granite of Namweon Granites. (2) This rock megascopically shows foliated texture, and their modal compositions according to classification of dynamically metamorphosed rock are correspond to blastomylonite. (3) This rock generated by dextral strike slip movement at deep level. (4) The geochronological data of hornblendes from this rock undertaken by $^{40}Ar/^{89}Ar$ method are 191Ma to 195Ma. (5) The geochronological data of this rock suggests that Namweon Granites might be a product of intrusion and crystallization at the late Triassic or the Jurassic.
Orbicular granite gneisses occur as a xenolith within two-mica leucogranites, together with early Paleoproterozoic metasedimentary xenoliths, in Wangjeong-ri, Muju area. The whole-rock chemistries and SHRIMP zircon Pb/U ages of the leucogranites indicate that they are S-type granitoids formed in the continental tectonic setting at $1875{\pm}75$ Ma. The SHRIMP age of monazites from the orbicular granite gneiss gives $1867{\pm}4$ Ma as a metamorphic age which is similar to the intrusion age of the two-mica leucogranite within the error range. The similar ages between zircons and monazites represent that the orbicular granite gneisses formed by metamorphism during the intrusion of the two-mica leucogranite; the metasedimetary xenoliths which sank within the parent magma of leucogranites were metamorphosed into orbicular granite gneisses by thermal metamorphism ($650-740^{\circ}C$, 4-6.5 kbar) due to the heat supplied from surrounding magma. During the thermal metamorphism, the core of orbicular granite gneiss mainly consisting of cordierite formed, and in some orbicular granitic gneisses, the leucocratic melt formed by melting of quartz and plagioclase in the core, squeezed out from core and crystallized around the core forming outer rim. The hydrothermal fluid at the late stage of magma differentiation penetrated into the orbicular granite gneisses resulting pinitization of cordierite into chlorite and sericite. As Muju orbicula granite gneiss was formed from sedimentary rocks, it is more appropriate to be called Muju orbicula granitic gneiss.
