  • This study was conducted to obtain the basic informations on the selection for the early and high-yielding lines in $F_2$ populations of wheat. Two combinations such as Olmil-Saemil cross and Naphal-Cheonggemil cross and their eight populations were used and genetic parameters of genetic variances and path-coefficients for agronomic traits mainly in $F_2$ populations were analyzed. Genetic coefficient of variability in Olmil-Saemil cross was higher in harvest index, grain number, grain yield and plant height in decreasing order, but in Naphal-Cheonggemil cross harvest index, plant height, and 1,000-grain weight were higher in order. Heading and maturing dates, plant height, and harvest index showed high hertability (0.525-0.808) in both crosses, but very low heritabilities were observed in grain numbers per panicle and yield. In both crosses, genetic advances(%) was higher in heading and maturing stage, but lowest in yield. High genetic advance was obtained in 1,000-grain weight of Naphal-Cheonggemil cross. The highly significant correlations between yield and panicle number, yield and grain number per panicle were obtained, and the highest direct effect on yield was obtained in panicle number followed by grain number per panicle number.

  • This study was conducted to find out the effects of nitrogen, potassium application on the plant growth, grain yield and nodule formation of Winged bean. Plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, leaf area, NAR, RGR and CGR increased with basal and top dressing of nitrogen and potassium application. Especially CGR was increased significantly with the added amount of potassium. Number of nodules and nodule dry weight decreased with application of basal and top dressing nitrogen, but increased with the added amount of potassium. Green pod, tuber and grain yield increased with application of basal and top dressing nitrogen, and the added amount of potassium. There appeared positive correlation coefficient between grain yield and growth charateristics, and between grain yield and components. But there showed negative correlation coefficient among yield, number of nodules, dry weight and P$_2$O$\_$5/ contents in leaf.

  • Grain Sorghum varieties grown in Korea have low productivity and are constrained by the fact that farmers' choice of improved varieties is limited. Hybrid cultivars have been demonstrated to be more productive and food security than pure line varieties. However, There's no available hybrid cultivars and never planted before in Korea. This study was, therefore, conducted to determine combining ability of Korean landrace varieties and cultivar, the level of heterosis of experimental hybrids depending on environments. Two cytoplasmic male-sterile lines were crossed with six male-fertile lines in accordance with North Carolina II mating scheme to generate 12 experimental hybrids. The hybrids were evaluated in replicated row-column alpha designs at two sites in Texas and South Korea under on-season production conditions. For each trait, general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) effects were estimated using the line-tester method of analysis. Results indicated significant differences among genotypes for both grain yield potential and secondary traits. Hybrids were predominant for grain yield, and displayed up to 127% heterosis of A03017 ${\times}$ Sodamchal in Korea. Positive GCA for yield was observed for Donganme, Hwanggeumchal and Jungmo4002 in Korea. Among them Jungmo4002 and Donganme had highly positive for yield (227.90 and 84.90 kg ha-1), while it showed negative GCA for yield in College station (-40.90, -189.60 kg ha-1). ATx630 ${\times}$ Sodamchal had the greatest SCA for yield (468.10 kg/ha) in College station but at South Korea its SCA effect was -302.40 kg/ha. A similar trend was observed, followed by A03017 ${\times}$ Donganme (SCA effect = 215 kg ha-1 at College station vs. -44.20 kg ha-1 at South Korea). At South Korea the greatest positive SCA effect for grain was observed in ATx630 ${\times}$ Jungmo4002 as 322.20 kg/ha. Both GCA and SCA effects significantly interacted with site effects demonstrating the need for region adaptation of potential cultivars and test for developing Korea suitable cultivar.

  • The growth and yield of Job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi L.) under the flooded paddy and upland (dry paddy) field conditions were compared at three sowing dates and two planting densities. Job's tears grown under flooded paddy field was much shorter in plant height, but greater in number of tillers than those grown under upland. Photosynthesis rate of Job's tears grown under flooded paddy field was higher and the weight of dry roots heavier but the damages of pest and leaf blight disease smaller than those grown under upland. For the above mentioned reasons, the grain yield of Job's tears grown under flooded paddy field was higher by up to 85% than that grown under upland. There was no significant difference in grain yield between the planting densities. The earlier sowing brought about the less grain yield in upland field condition, while sowing plot on the 15th of May showed the highest grain yield in the flooded paddy field condition.

  • Twenty-one lowland rice genotypes were evaluated for their stability parameters with respect to grain yield in a multi locational trial at five different sites of Eastern India viz. CRRI, Cuttack (Orissa); OUAT, Bhubaneswar (Orissa); CRS, Masodha (UP); RAU, Pusa (Bihar) and RARS, North Lakhimpur (Assam). Pooled analysis of variance reflects existence of genotype x environment interactions and contribution of both linear and nonlinear components to genotype (G) x environment (E) interactions. Through stability parameter analysis it was found that Rayda $\textrm{B}_3$, CR 778-95 and CR 661-236 were suitable for over all environments where as Sabita, OR 1334-16 and OR 1358-RGA-4 were suitable for rich environments. PSR 1209-2-3-2, CR 780-1937, Ambika, OR 877-ST-4-2 and CR 662-2211 were identified for poor environments.

  • The effect of binder kicking forces on the shattering losses of paddy rice, which has been widely understood as an outstanding loss factor in harvesting with a binder, were experimentally assessed in this thesis.Through the field tests the optimum time of harvest, in terms of grain moisture contents, was found by considering harvesting losses for two rice varieties, harvested by two different binders, at four or five grain moisture levels.A device was designed and manufactured to apply various kicking forces to the bundles and was used in the bundle kicking tests. It was intended to find out the optimum range of kicking force to minimize the kicking losses. Based on the study, modification of the existing binder kicking mechanism was suggested. The following is a summary of the results of this thesis. 1. In Suweon 258 variety, as the grain moisture content is reduced, so the cutting loss and the kicking loss increase. The grain losses range from 0.77 to 0.82 percent of total field yield for the cutting loss, from 1.83 to 2.01 percent for the kicking loss, and from 2.60 to 2.83 percent for the field loss, when the moisture content is about 22 percent. 2. In Jinheung variety , the field losses increased as the grain moisture content decreased . When the moisture content was 20 percent, the field loss, cutting loss and kicking loss was 0.42-0.49 % , 0.30-0.35, and 0.12 -0.14% of the total field yield, respectively. 3. The difference in the field loss , cutting loss, and kicking loss for the two binders was 0.23% , 0.05% and 0.18% respectively in Suweon 258 variety, and 0.07% , 0.02% and 0.05% respectively ini Jinheung variety. The grain losses for binder B were slightly higher than those for binder A. 4. In the statistical analysis of each variety , the kicking force and the moisture content of the grain, and its interaction were all highly significant at 1% level by T test .The optimum kicking force was found to be in the 3.0-0.4kg range. This does not interrupt the binder operation, while ioses are kept to an acceptale level. 5. To reduce the kicking force of the eXlstmg binder mechanism, the speed of rotation of the kicking arm needs to be redued by increasing the number of driving sprocket teeth, and the position and gear ratio of the knotter-bill and driving bevelgear have to be change to give a !motter-bill speed of 1110 rpm. It is also desirable to attach a belt conveyor which smoothly carries the bundle to the ground. 6. The optimum harvesting time cased on maximum field yield was found to be at a grain moisture content of around 22 percent for Suweon 258 variety, and 20 percent for Jinheung variety. Tota] field yield and field yield at the time amounted to 9, 812.5 kg/ha, 9, 302. 5kg/ha respectively for the Suweon 258, and 7, 819.5 kg/ ha, 7, 158.7 kg/ha respectively for the Jinheung variety.

  • This experiment was carried out to obtain the basic informations on yield performance and physicochemical quality properties of North Korean rices at southern high altitude area, Unbong and southeren plain area, Iksan. North Korean cultivars showed significant difference in number of spikelets per panicle, percentage of ripened grain and yield between two locations, but not significant in number of panicle per hill and l000-grain weight. The highest contribution to grain yield was the percentage of ripened grain and l000-grain weight at Iksan and Unbong, respectively, The protein, amylose content, alkali digestion value and Mg/K ratio showed larger variation in varieties than that in the locations cultivated. Mg and K revealed highly significant variations in locations, varieties and variety $\times$ location (V$\times$L) interaction. The amylogram characteristics such as initial pasting temperature, peak, breakdown, setback and consistency viscosities showed highly significant variation in locations, varieties and V$\times$L interaction. The physical characteristics of cooked rice such as adhesiveness, gumniness and chewiness also showed highly significant variations in locations, varieties and V$\times$L interaction.

  • Yield monitoring systems have become integral to precision agriculture, providing insights into the spatial variability of crop yield and playing an important role in modern harvesting technology. This paper aims to review current research trends in yield monitoring systems, specifically designed for non-grain crops, including cabbages, radishes, potatoes, and tomatoes. A systematic literature survey was conducted to evaluate the performance of various monitoring methods for non-grain crop yields. This study also assesses both mass- and volume-based yield monitoring systems to provide precise evaluations of agricultural productivity. Integrating load cell technology enables precise mass flow rate measurements and cumulative weighing, offering an accurate representation of crop yields, and the incorporation of image-based analysis enhances the overall system accuracy by facilitating volumetric flow rate calculations and refined volume estimations. Mass flow methods, including weighing, force impact, and radiometric approaches, have demonstrated impressive results, with some measurement error levels below 5%. Volume flow methods, including paddle wheel and optical methodologies, yielded error levels below 3%. Signal processing and correction measures also play a crucial role in achieving accurate yield estimations. Moreover, the selection of sensing approach, sensor layout, and mounting significantly influence the performance of monitoring systems for specific crops.

  • Air temperature has increased, while sunshine hour has decreased during the grain filling period of most rice cultivars (August to September) during the past 12 years from 2001 through 2012 in Korea. Climatic Productivity Index (CPI) has fallen because of the decreased sunshine hour and increased air temperature during the grain filling period, and the degree of reduction was greater with earlier heading. For stable rice production, we will need to delay the heading of rice as a cultivation measure against the future climatic trend. Grain yield showed no significant trend for past 12 years. However, the year to year change in grain yield showed a similliar pattern with that of CPI. Especially, a linear function relating rice yield to CPI explained approximately 63% of variation in grain yield with the heading date of August $11^{th}$ period.
