Al-Zn alloy/$MnO_2$, seawater cell was considered as a primary aqueous cell with an average voltage range from 1.0 to 1.1V, and the electrolyte of seawater was uptaken into the cell. Eventually, the capacity of its usage will be used for long-term. However, the more use of this cell, the higher corrosion phenomenon of the electrode occurred. Due to its corrosion phenomenon, one main default has been observed with gradual decrease during a discharge process. In this research, a common-used active material for anode was $LiNiO_2$. An active material for cathode, $Zn_{X}FeS_2$ was synthesized in high temperature by uptaken a small amount of 1.3 wt% of ZnS into $FeS_2$, one of the transition-metal dichalcogenides in high temperature. Consequently, based on their usages shown above, this secondary aqueous lithium cell could be more developed. This cell was shown as remarkable charge/discharge performance during the charge/discharge processes. This cathode with active material was given a considerable efficiency of inserting $Li^+$ ions. Moreever, in accordance with the characteristic of the crystal structure for $Zn_{x}FeS_2$, a small amount of ZnS was added which made it possible to reduce prominently velocity of corrosion during the charge/discharge cycle. By applying those merits, Al-Zn alloy/$MnO_2$ seawater cell will be used as a fundamental data in order to transform into a secondary aqueous cell.
The effective thermal conductivity of porous materials is usually determined by porosity, water content, and the conductivity of the matrix. In addition, it is also affected by the internal structure of the materials such as the size, arrangement, and connectivity of the matrix-forming grains. Based on the structural models for multi-phase materials, thermal conductivities of soils and sands measured with varying the water content were analyzed. Thermal conductivities of dry samples were likely to fall in the region between the Maxwell-Eucken model with air as the continuous phase and the matrix as the dispersed phase ($ME_{air}$) and the co-continuous (CC) model. However, water-saturated samples moved down to the region between the $ME_{wat}$ model and the series model. The predictive inconsistency of the structural models for dry and water-saturated samples may be caused by the increase of porosity for water-saturated samples, which leads to decrease of connectivity among the grains of matrix. In cases of variably saturated samples with a uniform grain size, the thermal conductivity showed progressive changes of the structural models from the $ME_{air}$ model to the $ME_{wat}$ model depending on the water content. Especially, an abrupt increase found in 0-20% of the water content, showing transition from the $ME_{air}$ model to the CC model, can be attributed to change of water from the dispersed to continuous phase. On the contrary, the undisturbed soil samples with various sizes of grains showed a gradual increase of conductivity during the transition from the $ME_{air}$ model to the CC model.
By M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy and x-ray measurement $(Fe_{0.95}Ni_{0.05})_7Se_8$ has been studied. The crystal structure of $(Fe_{0.95}Ni_{0.05})_7Se_8$ is found to be a triclinic superstructure of the NiAs sturcture while $Fe_7Se_8$ has a orthohexagonal superstructure. Abrupt changes of quadrupole shifts near 125 K for $(Fe_{0.95}Ni_{0.05})_7Se_8$ suggests that the spin-rotation transition proceeds abruptly, in contrast with the gradual transition reported for $Fe_7Se_8$ with a triclinic superstructure. Isomer shifts indicate a ferrous state for the iron ions at all four states.

In this paper, an algorithm using wavelet transform for detecting a cut that is a radical scene transition point, and fade and dissolve that are gradual scene transition points is proposed. The conventional methods using wavelet transform for this purpose is using features in both spatial and frequency domain. But in the proposed algorithm, the color space of an input image is converted to YUV and then luminance component Y is transformed in frequency domain using 2-level lifting. Then, the histogram of only low frequency subband that may contain some spatial domain features is compared with the previous one. Edges obtained from other higher bands can be divided into global, semi-global and local regions and the histogram of each edge region is compared. The experimental results show the performance improvement of about 17% in recall and 18% in precision and also show a good performance in fade and dissolve detection.

The effect of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO) addition on the superconducting property of Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+δ ((Bi, Pb)-2223) polycrystalline samples was studied. LSMO (0.3 wt.% to 2.0 wt.%) added (Bi, Pb)-2223 samples were prepared by using a solid-state reaction method. The XRD analyses show that as the LSMO addition increases, the volume fraction of the Bi-2223 phase is gradually decreased. The critical temperature (Tc) exhibits a gradual decrease with a single transition as the LSMO amount increases up to 1.0 wt.%, but a further addition of LSMO induces an abrupt decrease of Tc with a dual transition. The analyses on the local structure of the CuO2 plane from the X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements showed that for the samples with low concentration of LSMO up to 1.0 wt.%, the Cu-O bond length and the CuO2 plane ordering do not degrade from the values of pure (Bi, Pb)-2223, while they get worsen with a further increase of LSMO addition. These results open up the possibility of LSMO as artificial pinning centers of the (Bi, Pb)-2223 system for power application.
Chalcogenide glasses with compositions of Ge10Se90-xTex(X=0~50 at.%) were prepared in order to investigate the effects of Te substitution on the transmission characteristics of Ge-Se glasses in the 8~12 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength region. Absorption coefficients were observed to decrease with Te addition, indicating the improved transmission capabilities of Ge-Se-Te glasses as compared to binary Ge-Se glasses. XRD analysis of crystallized glasses suggested the formation of weaker Se-Te and/or Te-Te bonds with addition of Te substituting for Se in stronger Se-Se bonds. Incorporation of Te in excess of 20at% resulted in the formation of hexagonal Te phases when crystallized. It is speculated that the presence of Te-Te bonds with highly metallic bond character resulted in the enhanced crystallization tendencies of glasses. Fromation of Te-rich chains through gradual replacement of Se-Se with Se-Te and/or Te-Te bonds was further supported by decreases in glass transition and crystallization temperatures.
The gradual infall of small dark matter halos onto larger ones has become a relatively straightforward aspect of the standard hierarchical formation paradigm. What happens to the baryons they contain, however, is less well understood. Of special relevance are the processes that regulate and ultimately suppress star formation in galaxies in the early universe. The z=1.5-2.5 epoch is then particularly interesting as a transition period when global star-formation in the universe starts peaking but also where the first ostensibly collapsed and virialized galaxy clusters appear, along with segregated galaxy populations. From a theoretical point of view, the mode of gas accretion in massive halos is also expected to change around this time, switching from a cold to a hot phase and affecting the build-up and evolution of the galaxies they host. A lot of effort has thus been devoted to the search for high-redshift structures, in particular galaxy clusters, through a variety of methods. However, as the limited area for which deep datasets are available remains relatively limited, only few massive z>1.5 structures have been found so far. Here I will instead discuss the regulation of star-formation in lower-mass, X-ray detected halos at z~2 and its implication for galaxy quenching at high redshift. As these smaller, group-size halos are vastly more abundant and structurally simpler than massive clusters, they allow for true statistical studies and offer a novel way to probe environmental effects in this transitional epoch.
The sinoatrial (SA) node is a complex and inhomogeneous tissue in terms of cell morphology and electrical activity. There are two models of the cellular organisation of the sinoatrial node: the gradient and mosaic models. According to the gradient model there is a gradual transition in morphology and electrical properties of SA node cells from the centre to the periphery of the SA node. In the mosaic model, there is a variable mix of atrial and sinoatrial node cells from the centre to the periphery. This review focuses on the cellular organisation of the rabbit sinoatrial node in terms of the expression of connexin (Cx40, Cx43 and Cx45), L-type $Ca^{2+}$ channel and $Na^+-Ca^{2+}$ exchanger proteins. These immunocytochemical data, together with morphological and electrophysiological data, obtained from the intact sinoatrial node and isolated sinoatrial node cells support the gradient model of the cellular organisation of the SA node. The complex organisation of the sinoatrial node is important for the normal functioning of the sinoatrial node: (i) it allows the sinoatrial node to drive the surrounding hyperpolarized atrial muscle without being suppressed by it; (ii) it helps the pacemaker activity of the sinoatrial node continue under a wide range of physiological and pathophysiological conditions; (iii) it helps protect the sinoatrial node from reentrant arrhythmias.

Coastal waste dump in Pohang is composed of slags and sludge of POSCO. Hydraulic parameters in the coastal waste dump are very different from those in municipal landfills and general unconsolidated or fractured aquifers. In the waste dump pumping or slug tests are not adequate for the estimation of hydraulic parameters. Time-lag and amplitude of the tidal fluctuation of groundwater table are used to determine the hydraulic parameters. Groundwater table at the groundwater observation wells is about 40 cm higher than the sea level. The contributing factors of the groundwater-rise are estimated. Vertical profile of some chemical constituents in groundwater indicates the gradual transition of the fresh groundwater at the uppermost position to the sea water at the bottom.
