  • The following is final report for governor upgrade for PWR NPP safety related EDG Kori NPP No.2 Unit. The upgraded system includes more beneficial function like as "Slow start with starting ramp", "Generator load sensing & control capability" and "Emergency ramp during slow start". This paper show functional operation of slow start regime according to NRC regulatory guide which guide regulation to NPP safety related environment.

  • In this paper the recent studies of digital governor for the Diesel Engine in Korea is summarized and that of usage in the marine and land field as of power plant is analyzed for the interest and development of the enterprise with relation with relation to this industrial part. Our investigation shows that until now the studies on the digitl governor are mainly carried out in KMU and land usage for the power plants is increased gradually because reliance of digital governor is improved and system for the maneuvering and monitoring the plants is computerized.

  • A steam turnine in thermal/nuclear power plant drives generator and maintains it at rated speed using high temperature and high pressure steam energy. After synchronization in parallel with the power system, generator output increases according as the governor, that is the controller, increases steam flow into turbine. By the way, as the steam flow into turbine can not be reduced fast even though the electrical load is lost, the turbine gets into dangerous situation due to the increase of its speed. At this time, the duty of the turbine governor is to limit the speed to its overspeed trip setpoint by stopping the steam flow as soon as possible, the test of which is called load rejection test. It is introduced in this paper for a simulation test of generator load rejection to be implemented on the turbine governor in a 600MW nuclear power plant before its startup.

  • Generator protection device has to detects an internal fault conditions in generator and abnormal operating conditions must be due to the hazards. Loss of excitation may cause generator itself failure as well as serious operating problem in power system, and then requires an appropriate response of generator protection device. Details modeling of generator control system and analysis of transient states in generator are important for optimal operation in power plants. In addition, the fault simulation data are also used for testing the characteristics of IED. In this paper, the hydro generator control system using PSCAD/EMTDC, visual simulation for power systems, was modeled. The generator control system which is composed of generator, turbine, exciter, governor was implemented. The parameters of generator control system model were obtained from field power plant. Loss of excitation simulations were performed while varying the fixed load. Several signals analysis were also performed so as to analyze transients phenomena.

Design of QFT controller of superconductor flywheel energy storage system for load frequency control

  • In this paper, the Superconductor flywheel energy storage system (SFESS) was used for the load frequency control (LFC) of an interconnected 2 area power system. The robust SFESS controller using quantitative feedback theory (QFT) was designed to improve control performance in spite of parameter uncertainty and unexpected disturbances. An overlapping decomposition method was applied to simplify SFESS controller design for the interconnected 2 area power system. The model for simulation of the interconnected 2 area power system included the reheat steam turbine, governor, boiler dynamics and nonlinearity such as governor deadband and generation rate constraint (GRC). To verify robust performance of proposed SFESS controller, dynamic simulation was performed under various disturbances and parameters variation of power system. The results showed that the proposed SFESS controller was more robust than the conventional method.

  • HILS(Hardware In-the Loop Simulation)은 임베디드(Embedded) 시스템의 개발과 시험에 많이 이용된다. 임베디드(Embedded) 시스템은 시스템의 운전 환경에서 쉽고, 철저하게 그리고 반복해서 시험할 수 없을 때 사용된다. HILS는 빠르고 경제적으로 제품을 개발하는데 유효하다. 또한 생산품이 생산을 시작한 후에 심각한 문제점들이 발견될 가능성을 상당히 줄여주어 생산품 개발 시간동안에 설계 최적화와 하드웨어/소프트웨어 디버깅을 실행하는데 도움을 준다. 본 연구는 Digital Governor의 성능을 확인하기 위해 스팀터빈 플랜트와 동기 발전기를 포함한 시뮬레이터를 HIL(Hardware In-the Loop Simulator)로 구현하였으며, 실시간으로 시스템의 응답을 확인할 수 있도록 소프트웨어로 구성하였다.

  • The design concept of diesel engines for sea-going ships has been directed to Low-speed/Long-Stroke type to improve the efficiencies of combustion and propelling. But the time-delay property inevitable at such low speed engines gives much difficulties for governors to control the engine speed because they would be apt to go into unstable region especially when operating at low speed. The purpose of this paper is to study the problem of how the governor gain can be calculated dynamically in accordance with the variance of engine speed at least for an engine to be stable. In this study, the property of diesel engine was described as composed of combustion element including dead time and rotating element, and the ultimate gain for the speed control system to be located on the condition of stability limit was proposed based on the frequency characteristics. And the target gains with optimized stability also were proposed by giving proper margin to these ultimate conditions. The results were applied to a model system and the availability was confirmed to be satisfactory.

  • 본 연구에서 고려된 발전소 조속기의 속도제어계는 레귤레이터(PID 제어기), 액튜에이터와 터빈으로 구성되어 있다. 이 계통에 파라미터 불확실성과 외란이 고려되면, PID 제어만으로는 만족한 제어성능을 얻지 못할 수도 있다. 따라서 플랜트 불확실성과 외란에 대해 요구된 계통의 제어성능을 얻을 수 있는 설계기법의 도입이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 발전설비의 안정된 운전을 위한 설계기법으로 QFT를 이용하였으며, QFT의 루프형성 근사화기법에 유전 알고리즘을 도입하여 개루프 전달함수의 계수를 식별하는 방법을 제안하였다. 그리고 이 기법을 이용해서 발전소 속도제어계를 설계하였다.

지역난방 증기 터빈 내 조속기 밸브 Inlet pipe 파손 원인 분석 (Failure Analysis of an Inlet Pipe of a Governor Valve in a Steam Turbine of a District Heating System)

  • The objective of this study was to perform failure analysis of an inlet pipe located in a governor valve of a steam turbine in a district heating system. During the operation, the temperature of the governor valve was increased to as high as ~500 ℃, which induced thermal expansion of the inlet pipe along both axial and radial directions. While the inlet pipe did not have contact with the valve seat, the side plane of the upside was constrained by the casing part, which led the inlet pipe to experience stress field in the form of fatigue and creep. The primary crack was initiated at about 30 mm below the top where the complex stress field was anticipated. These results suggest that the main failure mechanism is a combination of thermal fatigue and creep during the operation supported by the observation of apparent beach marks on the fracture surface and pores near the cracks, respectively.
