  • This study sought to verify the shopping values that tourists pursue by purchasing at travel destinations based on tourists' motivation and identify the effects of these values on the types of fashion items preferred by tourists. Furthermore, this study verified the tourist shopping behavior of three Asian countries-Korea, China, and Japan-from a cross-cultural perspective. To obtain a sample that represents tourist shoppers in each country, a survey was conducted on adult men and women in their 20s to 60s, and 986 subjects were collected: 300 Koreans, 385 Chinese, and 301 Japanese. Factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and multigroup SEM were performed on the collected data using SPSS Statistics and AMOS. Based on escaping-seeking theory, tourist intentions were divided into escaping and seeking motivations, and tourist shopping values were divided into functional, emotional, and social. The shopping items were divided into materials and experiential goods to understand the difference between the types preferred by tourists according to the perceived value. In addition, differences in tourist shopping behaviors according to the three nationalities were identified. The findings illustrate that the escaping motive affects emotional and social values, whereas the seeking motive affects all three. Moreover, it was confirmed that functional and emotional values affect preference for material and experiential goods, but social value only affects preference for material goods. For the cross-cultural study, differences in tourist shopping behavior according to nationality were identified.

  • This study is to research the influence of Caesalpinia sappan which was imported through the exchanges between the Chosun dynasty and Japanese envoys during the early Chosun dynasty. Korea interchanged politically and culturally with Japan since ancient times. Particularly, the good-neighbor foreign policy toward Japan grew into trade relations. The diplomatic mission, under the name of Tongshinsa, was dispatched 12 times in total. Plenty of goods were exchanged through the visiting of Japanese envoys as well as through the activities of Korean envoys. In other words, the Korean-Japanese relations were at first focused on the political and diplomatic etiquette and gradually evolved into economic exchanges. Trading goods were various, including food, clothing, etc. Caesalpinia sappan, a red dye, was the most imported goods from Japan, but it was sold at a very high price, which caused luxurious trends in clothing. However, these sumptuous moods of the upper classes were decreased in the 16th century. Some of the reasons are : the difficulties of Japan's trade with the Caesalpinia sappan producing countries in South-east Asia, the transition of the high classes' preference from red clothing into Chinese BaecSa and SaraNeungDan, and the comparative decrease in the demand of Caesalpinia sappan by the changed understanding of Honghwa. Therefore, the early Chosun dynasty's clothing trends were due to the relationships between the Chosun dynasty and Japan.

  • This is a comparative and analytical study which comprises of the analysis of the rules of the buyer's remedies where the seller delivers defective goods of four legal systems; Directive, CISG, English law and Korean law. In light of threefold main purposes of this study, it firstly attempts to describe and analyze the remedy provisions of Directive in a comparative way in order to provide legal advice to the sellers who plans to enter into English consumer markets. It shows that the two tier remedial system under Directive is not much different from the other jurisdictions, except where the right of rescission under Directive is absolute in a sense that it does not require a certain degree of seriousness of defect. Secondly, the study compares the rules of one jurisdiction with those of other jurisdictions and evaluates the rules in light of the discipline of comparative law the basic question of which is whether a solution from one jurisdiction may facilitate the systematic development and reform of another jurisdiction. It proves the followings; (1) the reluctance and uncertainty in English law of ordering specific performance based on the discretionary power does not reflect the parties' preference because the order is either uncertain or rather negative where the purchase of substitute goods elsewhere is not a satisfactory solution in many cases; (2) the position in Korean law which has no limitation on the right to require substitute goods is likely unfair in commercial sales, but justified in consumer sales; (3) the right of termination or reduction under Directive which is subject to the applicability of the right to require repair or substitute goods seems to be contrary to the consumer's preference where the defective delivery destroys the basis of trust in the quality of the seller's performance; (4) the absolute right of termination under Directive and English law seems crucial in consumer sales because they are often inferior to commercial sellers in terms of information and bargaining power; (5) the right of reduction as a self-help remedy which is absent in English law emphasizes its usefulness. Thirdly, it finds that, where CISG is deemed to fail to unify different rules on the right to require specific performance between Civil and Common law, it is attempted once again in Directive and notwithstanding their hostility to awarding the right to require specific performance in English law, Regulations 2002 expressively stipulates such right.

  • In this study, the basic purpose was to identify the characteristics of the perception response of the elements that have an influence on the information search process for an assessment of product preference. Also, the relationship between the characteristics and the preference of products were reviewed in terms of the experience of the use of products. For this, photos of mobile phones and proposal-type products were selected and the experimental stimulant and experiments were conducted in two steps. In the first experiment, observations were made on the photos of the proposed products and they were arranged in the order of preference. In the second experiment, the part with the first attention in the preference assessment was marked by using the product photos that were previously selected and ranking them from 1 to 10. Two conclusions were obtained from the results of the experiment. First, the experimental memory information with the experience of the use of the products activates an interpretational response to the various constitutional elements included in the object for conception in the process of a preference rating. Second, no product use experience induces the reaction that perceptually accepts the esthetical elements included in the object for perception, regardless of preference.

  • The ability of smartphones to facilitate various services like mobile banking, e-commerce and mobile payments has made them part of consumers' lives. Conjoint analysis (CA) is a marketing research approach used to assess how consumers' preferences for products or services develop. The potential applications of CA are numerous in consumer electronics, banking and insurance services, job selection and workplace loyalty, consumer packaged goods, and travel and tourism. Choice-Based Conjoint (CBC) analysis is the most commonly used CA approach in marketing research. The purpose of this study is to utilise CBC analysis to investigate the relative importance of smartphone attributes that influence consumer smartphone preference. An experiment was designed using Sawtooth CBC Software. 326 students attempted the online survey. Utility values were derived by Hierarchical Bayes (HB) estimation and used to explain consumers' smartphone preferences. All the six attributes used for the study were found to significantly influence smartphone preference. Smartphone brand was the most important, followed by the price, camera, RAM, battery life, and storage. This study is one of the first to use Sawtooth CBC analysis to assess consumer smartphone preference based on the six attributes. We provide implications for the development of new smartphones based on attributes.
