The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the effects of middle school students' participation in after-school sports on psychological well-being. A survey was conducted on 280 students in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades attending two middle schools in Gongju-si, Chungnam, for one month from September 8 to October 17, 2019. The scale developed by Ryff (1995) was used to measure psychological stability. Subfactors including self-acceptance (6 questions), positive interpersonal relationships (5 questions), autonomy (6 questions), environmental control (5 questions), purpose of life (5 questions), and personal growth (5 questions) comprised a total of 32 questions measured on the Likert 5-point scale. The internal fit score (Cronbach's alpha) was .76-.83, with 146 students (52.1%) participating in after-school sports activities. The effect was high in the participant group. All variables, including the six subfactors, were verified statistically. These findings are consistent with the studies of Kang Myung-hwa (2011) and Kim Pan-su (2012), which reported that the sports activities of middle school students directly affect the development of emotions. This study verified the need to strengthen after-school sports activities and to engage problem children. After-school sports activities should be reviewed in the context of social issues that are becoming increasingly serious.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of peer tutoring on mathematical inclination and mathematical communication ability of peer tutor. For the purpose of this study, research questions were established as follows: 1. How does peer tutoring affect to the mathematical inclination of peer tutors? 2. How does peer tutoring affect to the mathematical communication ability of peer tutors? To answer the research questions, four 5th grade peer tutors were selected for qualitative case study in an elementary school located in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. Before and after 11 weeks of peer tutoring in their mathematics classes, mathematical inclination, mathematical communication ability of peer tutors were examined. For qualitative analysis, peer tutors were asked to complete worksheets, self-evaluation, journal for their peer tutoring in daily basis during the experiment. By comparing the scores in mathematical inclination test and mathematical communication test before and after the treatment and analyzing the data gathered for qualitative analysis, the conclusions were drawn as follows: First, Peer tutoring has positive effects on the mathematical inclination of peer tutors. Scores for mathematical inclination of peer tutors after the treatment increased and qualitative analysis showed positive change in their attitude toward mathematics. Second, Peer tutoring has positive effects on the mathematical communication ability of peer tutors. Scores in the performance assessment for mathematical communication ability of peer tutors after the treatment increased. Also qualitative analysis showed that peer tutors tried to develop various ways to solve a problem and explained them to their peer tutee sophisticatedly.

An unknown planthopper was discovered in 2010 in an apple orchard in Sinpoong-myun, Gongju-si and in a blueberry orchard in Deogsan-myun, Yesan-gun. This pest have arrived 4 or 5 years ago and the population density then rapidly increased. It was identified as Ricania sp. by Dr. Murray J. Fletcher. Adult Ricania sp. was found on 26 plants including blueberry, grape, peach, sumac, japanese angelica, jujube, kiwi, Rubus coreanus, apple, apricot, plum and chestnut. Females lay eggs on 1-year-old branches. The mean number of eggs laid on apple and plum were 18.7 and 15.3, respectively. The mean length of egg masses on apple and plum were 12.35 and 11.45 mm, respectively. The distance between eggs laid on apple and plum branchs were 1.3 and 1.5 mm, respectively. The mean number of eggs in the same length of egg mass on apple and plum branchs were 17.1 and 13.3, respectively.
