  • In order to confirm feasibility of MOSFET modality in use of in.vivo dosimetry, evaluation of gonad shielding in order to minimize gonadal dose of patients undergoing radiotherapy by using MOSFET modality was performed. Gonadal dose of patients undergoing radiotherapy for rectal cancer in the department of radiation oncology of Seoul National University Hospital since 2009 was measured. 6 MV and 15 MV photon beams emitted from Varian 21EX LINAC were used for radiotherapy. In order to minimize exposed dose caused by the scattered ray not only from collimator of LINAC but also from treatment region inside radiation field, we used box.shaped lead shielding material. The shielding material was made of the lead block and consists of $7.5\; cm\;{\times}\;9.5\;cm\;{\times}5.5\;cm$ sized case and $9\;cm\;{\times}\;9.5\;cm\;{\times}\;1\;cm$ sized cover. Dosimetry for evaluation of gonad shielding was done with MOSFET modality. By protecting with gonad shielding material, average gonadal dose of patients was decreased by 23.07% compared with reference dose outside of the shielding material. Average delivered gonadal dose inside the shielding material was 0.01 Gy. By the result of MOSFET dosimetry, we verified that gonadal dose was decreased by using gonad shielding material. In compare with TLD dosimetry, we could measure the exposed dose easily and precisely with MOSFET modality.

  • As the importance of intervention has recently increased, interest in the health of medical staff performing the procedure is increasing. Existing radiation shielding devices have limited the operator's movement and have not been properly used due to the risk of infection, and adequate radiation shielding of the operator's gonads and furthermore, the entire area of the procedure room has not been achieved. An auxiliary shielding device was manufactured by attaching a Bismuth to the elbow support used in the procedure, and the radiation shielding effect was measured. As a result of the measurement, the average spatial dose rate decreased by about 64.8%, and the independent sample t-test analysis showed statistically significant below the significance probability (p<0.05). The use of an auxiliary shielding device is considered to be an effective shielding method that can shield the operator's gonads and reduce the radiation spatial dose rate of the entire area of the procedure room.

  • This study is a study on the difference in dose according to the presence or absence of gonadal shielding of scattered rays generated during chest computed tomography examination, and the scattered dose of the examination site was measured by placing the RadEye G-10 device in the center of the phantom. When the gonads are not shielded, the scattering lines of the whole, both sides, posterior and gonads are measured and Xenolite nolead Apron (0.35 mm PB), Xenolite nolead Apron (front 0.35 mm PB Mix back 0.25 mm PB, Skirt overlap), Half Apron After shielding with (0.5 mm PB), each scattered dose was measured. During chest computed tomography, the scattered dose of the test site was measured at 272 μSv, and when not shielded with Apron, the average total was 43 μSv, left 81 μSv, right part 82 μSv, posterior part 38.8 μSv, and Gonad part 16 μSv. Became. Xenolite nolead Apron shielded only the upper part and measured all 11.2 μSv, left part 43.1 μSv, right part 45.3 μSv, posterior part 12 μSv and Gonad part 5.2 μSv. Xenolite nolead Apron (Skirt overlap) covered the Pelvis area 360° and the dose was measured to be 5.6 μSv in the whole, 22.4 μSv in the left, 15.7 μSv in the right side, 6 μSv in the posterior part, and 3.2 μSv in the Gonad part. When measuring only the upper part with Half Apron, the total measurement was 10.7 μSv, the left part 42.6 μSv, the right part 40.6 μSv, the posterior part 11.3 μSv, and the Gonad part 4.7 μSv. The method of 360° shielding of the pelvic area showed a dose reduction of more than 80%, and a dose reduction effect of more than 70% was shown when all shielding was performed. In all computerized tomography examinations, research to reduce the exposure dose and various shielding devices were used. It is believed that continuous research on the technique is needed.

  • This study was conducted to observe the changes in radiation exposure dose and image quality of pediatric patients according to the presence and size of the gonadal shield when using the AEC system. X-ray equipment was used to measure the radiation exposure dose in the abdominal and gonads of the pediatric phantom when no shielding body was used and when three different sizes of shielding body were used, and SNR and CNR were measured through the obtained images. As a result of the study, the radiation exposure dose to the gonads decreased in proportion to the size of the radiation shield, but the radiation exposure dose to the abdomen was rather increased, and the image quality did not change. It is recommended to use a shield with a size optimized for the age, weight, and body size of the pediatric patient so as not to be overexposed by the increased radiation due to the radiation shield due to the use of the AEC System. For this purpose, information about the pediatric patient with the nurse It is believed that exchange is necessary.

  • In this study, C-Arm equipment is being used as we intend to verify the exposure dose on the operator by the scattering rays during the operation of the C-Arm equipment and to provide an effective method of reducing the exposure dose. Exposure dose is less than the Over Tube method utilizes the C-arm equipment Under Tube the scheme, The result showed that the exposure dose on the operator decreased with a thicker shield, and as the operator moved away from the center line. Moreover, as the research time prolongated, the exposure dose increased, and among the three affixed location of the dosimeter, the most exposure dose was measured at gonadal, then followed by chest and thyroid. However, in consideration of the relationship between the operator and the patient, the distance cannot be increased infinitely and the research time cannot be decreased infinitely in order to reduce the exposure dose. Therefore, by changing the thickness of the radiation shield, the exposure dose on the operator was able to be reduced. If you are using a C-Arm equipment discomfort during surgery because the grounds that the procedure is neglected and close to the dose of radiation shielding made can only increase. Because a separate control room cannot be used for the C-Arm equipment due to its characteristic, the exposure dose on the operator needs to be reduced by reinforcing the shield through an appropriate thickness of radiation shield devices, such as apron, etc. during a treatment.

  • It was performed in this study to provide basic information on production of accurate gonadal shield by measuring pelvic indicators of TDP SD ISP IAD 1CDP and 2CDP. when pelvis ap and hip ap examination was taken, there is no exact position of the reference point of the shield and anatomically more difficult to shield gonad in the case of female infants than male. Results analyzed by height in 70~80 and 110~120 were approximately 30mm 13mm 19mm 20mm 2mm and 7mm difference in TDP SD ISP IAD 1CDP and 2CDP respectively. This value was statistically significant (P<0.05). Results analyzed by age of 2~3 and 6~7 were different on SD ISP IAD and 2CDP by 17mm 10mm 12mm 16mm respectively. it was also statistically significant. However 1CDP was not statistically significant(P>0.05). the difference was nearly about 1mm. Analysis of results by weight of less than 10 and more than 20 showed difference on TDP SD ISP IAD 1CDP and 2CDP by 28mm 14mm 11mm 20mm 3mm and 8mm. it was statistically significant (P<0.05). From the above results, female infants pelvic indicator measurement can be used as reference value for shielding production and especially IAD can present a reference point on the shielding position. Pelvis indicators of female infant has a close correlation. In addition, as it is showen in the statistical difference analysis to have an accurate ovarian shield, gonad shield would be produced and used by height, age and weight.
