The purpose of this experiment was to determind whether the gold electrodeposit on Pd-Ag and Ni-Cr alloys influences on the shear bond strength between veneering resin and silicoated metal surface. All the metal specimens were sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide and followed by silicoating and resin veneering. According to the metal surfaces to be veneered, experimental groups were divided into five. Group Prec : Gold alloy without gold coating Group Semi : Pd-Ag alloy without gold coating Group Base : Ni-Cr alloy without gold coating Group Semi-G : Pd-Ag alloy with gold coating Group Base-G : Ni-Cr alloy with gold coating All specimens were thermocycled 1,000 times at temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$. The effects of gold electrodeposit on the shear bond strength between resin and metal interface were measured and fractured surface of the resin veneered metal was examined under the scaning electron microscope. The following results were obtained 1. The shear bond strength between resin and metal was $64.51{\pm}11.11Kg/cm^2$ in Prec group, $62.77{\pm}11.23Kg/cm^2$ in Base group and $58.97{\pm}9.20Kg/cm^2$ in Semi Group. There was no significant difference among the groups. 2. The bond strength in groups Semi-G and Base-G decreased about 17%, compared to the nongold-electrodeposit groups(Semi, Base). 3. In groups of non electrodeposit(Prec, Semi, Base), fracture occurred at the interface between alloy and resin, while fracture interface was observed between gold coating and resin in group Semi-G, and between metal substrate and gold coating in group Base-G respectively.
Twenty four thiol-functionalized ionic liquids based on imidazolium cation, 1-(12-mercaptododecyl)-3-alkylimidazolium salts, have been synthesized, and utilized to investigate the effects of alkyl-chain length and anion on the wettability of Au surfaces on the basis of self-assembled monolayers presenting [(CnSAMIM)X], where n = 1-6, X = Br, $BF_4$, $PF_4$ and $NTf_2$. Water wettabilities of the surfaces were measured as a water contact angle by contact angle goniometry. It was found that water wettability of the Au surfaces coated with imidazolium ions was largely dependent not only on counter anions but also on the length of alkyl chains. In the case of SAMs of N-alkylimidazolium ions having short length of N-alkyl chain (C1-$C_4$), anions played great role in determining water wettability of the surfaces.
Traditionally, many kinds of mechanical bonding techniques were used for bonding resins to the surface of the metal alloys. If there is a seperation between resin and metal junction by stress accumulation and temperature change of oral cavity, the cracks or crazing may occur, accompanied by failure of resin bonding to metal. This study was designed to compare the shear bond strength of the type IV gold alloy and Cr-Co alloy surfaces treated with various methods and thermocycling. Universal Instron (Model 1000) and scanning electron microscope (JEOL, Japan) was used to record the shear bond strength of 5 groups. Forty specimens were made for each group ; group 1 was treated with sandblasting only, group 2 was coated with V-primer after sandblasting, group 3 was coated with Metal primer, group 4 wase coated with MR Bond and group 5 was coated with silane. After treated with various methods, thermocycling was done for half of the each group. The surfaces of failed pattern were observed with SEM. The results were as follows : 1. Shear bond strength of the group 1 was lower than that of another groups in type IV gold alloys and bond strength of the group 1, 2 were lower than that of group 3, 4, 5 in Cr-Co alloys. 2. Shear bond strength of the gold alloy with resin was higher than that of Cr-Co alloy when specimens were coated with V-primer. 3. Shear bond strength of the Co-Cr alloys with resin was higher than that of gold alloys when specimens were coated with Metal primer. 4. The bond strength of all specimens did not decreased significantly after thermocycling. 5. Adhesive failures were found in group 1 and Cr-Co alloy in group 2, but adhesive and cohesive failures were found in another groups.
Current nanogold cluster synthesized by chemical routine with 11 or 55 atoms of gold has been widely used for immuno chemistry probe as a form of nanocluster conjugated with biomolecules. It would be an undeveloped region that the 1 nm size of nanogold could be made by materials engineering processing. Therefore, objective of this study is to minimize the size of gold nanocluster as a function of operating temperature and chamber pressure in inert gas condensation (IGC) processing. Evaporation temperature was controlled by input current from 50 A to 65 A. Chamber pressure was controlled by argon gas with a range of 0.05 to 2 torr. The gold nanocluster by IGC was evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The gold nanocluster for TEM analysis was directly sampled with special in-situ method during the processing. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to observe 3-D nanogold layer surfaces on a slide glass for the following biomolecule conjugation step. The size of gold nanoclusters had a close relationship with the processing condition such as evaporation temperature and chamber pressure. The approximately 1 nm size of nanogold was obtained at the processing condition for 1 torr at $1124 ^{\circ}C$.
Statement of problem : There have been previous studies about considerable variations in machining accuracy and consistency in the implant-abutment-screw interfaces. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the machining accuracy and consistency of implant/abutment/screw combinations on two randomly selected implants from each of four manufactures. Material and methods : In this study, screws were respectively used to secure a cemented abutment, to a hexlock implant fixture ; teflon coated titanium alloy screw(Torq-Tite) and titanium alloy screw in Steri--Oss system, gold-plated gold-palladium alloy screw(Gold-Tite) and titanium alloy screw in 3i system gild screw ana titanium screw in AVANA Dental Implant system, and titanium screws in Paragon System. The implants were perpendicularly mounted in polymethyl methacrylate autopolymerizing acrylic resin block(Orthodontic resin, Densply International Inc. USA) by use of dental surveyer. Each abutment screw was secured to the implant with recommended torque value using a digital torque controller. Each screw was again tightened after 10 minutes. All samples were cross sectioned with grinder-polisher unit(Omnilap 2000 SBT Inc) after embeded in liquid unsaturated polyester (Epovia, Cray Valley Inc) Results : There were the largest gaps in the neck areas of screws in hexagonal extension implants which were examined in this study. The leading edge of the abutment screw thread (superior surface) was in contact with the implant body thread, and the majority of the contacting surfaces were localized to the middle portion of the mating threads. Considerable variation in the contacting surfaces was noted in the samples evaluated. Amounts of contact in the abutment screw thread were larger for assemblies with Gold-Tite screw, gold alloy screw. Torq-Tite screw than those with titanium screws. The findings of intimate contact between the screw and screw seat were seen in all samples, regardless of manufacturers. However, microgap between the head and lateral neck surface of the screw and the abutment could be dectected in all samples. The findings of intimate contact between the platform of the implant and the bottom of the abutment were consistent in all samples, regardless of manufacturers. However, microgaps between the lateral surface of external hex of the fixture and the abutment could be dectected in all samples. Conclusion : Considerable variations in machining accuracy and consistency were noted in the samples and the implant-abutment-screw interfaces were incomplete. From the results of this study, further development of the system will be required, including improvements in pattern design.
The potential-induced charge transfer of the dye (Bu4N)2[Ru(dcbpyH)2-(NCS)2] (N719) on Au, Ag, and Cu electrode surfaces has been examined by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) in the applied voltage range between 0.0 and ?0.8 V. N719 is assumed to have a relatively perpendicular geometry with its bipyridine ring on the metal surfaces. A strong appearance of the carboxylate band at ~1370 cm-1 indicates that the carboxyl group will likely be deprotonated on the metal surfaces. As the electric potential is shifted from ?0.8 to 0.0 V, the ν (NCS) band at ~2100 cm-1 on the electrode surfaces appears to undergo a shift in frequency and intensity change. This indicated that the charge transfer between the dye and metal electrode surfaces had occurred. Electric-field-dependent charge transfer differs somewhat depending on the type of metal surfaces as suggested from the dissimilar frequency positions of the ν (NCS) band.
Molecular assembling is one of the current interests in the field of bottom-up nanotechnology. Self-assembled monolayers of sulfur-containing molecules or supramolecular assemblies via surface sol-gel processes formed on conductive supports are chemically robust and can be easily fabricated without sophisticated instruments. We have fabricated various types of molecular assemblies consisting of donor-acceptor pairs on the surfaces of gold and indium-tin-oxide electrodes. Build-up of three-dimensional multi structures consisting of thiol dyes and gold nanoparticles also has been successful. These assemblies showed clear photocurrent responses in photoelectro-chemical cells. In this article, we will describe recent progress on photoelectric conversion using molecular assemblies especially focused on our research results.
Ion induced secondary electron emission coefficients γ of protecting layers of an AC plasma display panel(AC-PDP) have been measured. In order to solve the surface charging effect during the measurement at insulating samples like MgO, a new method with the patterned gold line charge neutralization has been introduced. The measurement was performed at the samples, MgO and MgO+MgF$_2$, which showed a great difference in the firing voltage between the two protecting layers. The γ value has been compared with the firing voltage Vf of the AC-PDP with the same protecting layer. Correct relationship between γ and Vf has been observed. Thus, the patterned gold line method has been proven to be successful for the measurement of the secondary electron emission yield at insulator sample surfaces.
