Purpose - Loyalty programs enable retailers to maintain longer and better customer relationships. In successful services, customers actively use and value these programs. As the proximity to the goal (goal gradient) might signal active participation, this study empirically examines customer's goal gradient behavior in a multi-vendor loyalty program. We also consider the effect of customer's accrual diversity on goal gradients, which is a differentiating feature in a multi-vendor loyalty program, and is further examined. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - The data consists of6,646 OK Cashbag members' individual transaction records from 2006 to 2009. The goal gradient hypothesis was tested as an increase in both the speed and the amount of accumulated award points. Result - The findings suggest that the goal gradient is also observed in a multi-vendor loyalty program, occurring more strongly among members with high accrual diversity. Conclusions - The results indicate that customers with high accrual diversity attend strongly to goal gradients in multi-vendor loyalty programs; hence, it is important for such program managers to better inform members about affiliated partners.

Reward-based crowdfunding is a funding platform that allows funds to be raised to early operators who have lack of funds, and is seen as an outstanding infrastructure that is going to lead the fourth industrial revolution in that it is a field of realization of new technologies and creative ideas by start-ups. Reward-based crowdfunding has grown in line with the trend of the fourth industrial revolution, and funding success cases are taking place in various industries that culture/art to technology/IT, including as a new means of knowledge management in a rapidly changing industrial environment. The study focused on the fact that consumer's donation purposes may also vary depending on the category of projects classified as reward-based crowdfunding. Because consumer payment decisions and motivation of consumer purchasing behavior are classified according to the purpose of purchase, the previous papers that the goal gradient effect that the main motivation of consumer donation for reward-based crowdfunding introduced vary depending on project category of utilitarian and hedonic. In this study, consumer's daily donation data is collected by Indiegogo which is a leading reward-based crowdfunding company using web-crawling and the model was defined as propensity score matching (PSM) and random effect model. The results showed that the goal gradient effect occurred in utilitarian project category, but no goal gradient effect for the hedonic project category. Furthermore, this paper developed the study of motivation of consumer donation and contributes theoretical foundation by the results consumer donation may vary depending on the project category; also, this paper has implications for an effective marketing strategy depending on the project category leaves real meaning to the projector.
The main goal of this research is to examine the in-plane and out-of-plane forced vibration of a curved nanocomposite microbeam. The in-plane and out-of-plane displacements of the structure are considered based on the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The curved microbeam is reinforced by functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FG-CNTs) and thus the extended rule of mixture is employed to estimate the effective material properties of the structure. Also, the small scale effect is captured using the strain gradient theory. The structure is rested on a nonlinear orthotropic viscoelastic foundation and is subjected to concentrated transverse harmonic external force, thermal and magnetic loads. The derivation of the governing equations is performed using energy method and Hamilton's principle. Differential quadrature (DQ) method along with integral quadrature (IQ) and Newmark methods are employed to solve the problem. The effect of various parameters such as volume fraction and distribution type of CNTs, boundary conditions, elastic foundation, temperature changes, material length scale parameters, magnetic field, central angle and width to thickness ratio are studied on the frequency and force responses of the structure. The results indicate that the highest frequency and lowest vibration amplitude belongs to FGX distribution type while the inverse condition is observed for FGO distribution type. In addition, the hardening-type response of the structure with FGX distribution type is more intense with respect to the other distribution types.
This study aims to investigate the gamification effect of the badge awards, the most popular gamification process, on users participation behavior. This study also attempts to investigate the effect of tailored gamification, which designs the system of gamification differently based on users' characteristics, focusing on the level of online user information disclosure. For this, we collect and analyze data on 557 users and 1,048,020 answers from StackOverflow, an online Q&A community for developers. The results show that providing a badge is effective for increasing the amount of user participation, whereas providing a goal through the badge is partially effective for increasing the quality of participation. However, the moderating effect of whether users disclose their SNS information on the relationship between badge gaining and participation decrease is not statistically significant. For platform operators, our findings emphasize the importance of gamification design to enhance user engagement effectively.
The central goal of Gamma Knife radiosurgery(GKRS) is to maximize the conformity of the prescription isodose surface, and to minimize the radiation effect of the normal tissue surrounding the target volume. There are the various kinds of indices related with the quality of treatment plans such as conformity index, coverage, selectivity, beam-on time, gradient index(GI), and conformity/gradient index(CGI). As the best treatment plan evaluation tool, we must check by all means conformity index, GI, and CGI among them. Specially, GI and CGI related with complication of healthy normal tissue is more indispensible than conformity index. Then author calculated and statistically analysed CGI, the newly defined conformity/gradient index as well as GI being applied widely using the treatment planning system Leksell GammaPlan(LGP) and the verification method Variable Ellipsoid Modeling Technique(VEMT). In the study 10 patients with intracranial lesion treated by GKRS were included. Author computed the indices from LGP and VEMT requiring only four parameters: the prescribed isodose volume, the volume with dose > 30%, the target volume, and the volume of half the prescription isodose. All data were analyzed by paired t-test, which is statistical method used to compare two different measurement techniques. No statistical significance in GI at 10 cases was observed between LGP and VEMT. Differences in GI ranged from -0.14 to 0.01. The newly defined gradient index calculated by two methods LGP and VEMT was not statistically significant either. Author did not find out the statistical difference for the prescribed isodose volume between LGP and VEMT. CGI as the evaluation index for determining the best treatment plan is not significant statistically also. Differences in CGI ranged from -4 to 3. Similarly newly defined Conformity/Gradient index for GKRS was also estimated as the metric for the evaluation of the treatment plans through statistical analysis. Statistical analyses demonstrated that VEMT was in excellent agreement with LGP when considering GI, new gradient index, CGI, and new CGI for evaluating the best plans of GKRS. Due to the application of the fast and easy evaluation tool through LGP and VEMT author hopes CGI and newly defined CGI as well as gradient indices will be widely used.

Along with the deeper architecture in the deep learning approaches, the need for the data becomes very big. In the real problem, to get huge data in some disciplines is very costly. Therefore, learning on limited data in the recent years turns to be a very appealing area. Meta-learning offers a new perspective to learn a model with this limitation. A state-of-the-art model that is made using a meta-learning framework, Meta-SGD, is proposed with a key idea of learning a hyperparameter or a learning rate of the fast adaptation stage in the outer update. However, this learning rate usually is set to be very small. In consequence, the objective function of SGD will give a little improvement to our weight parameters. In other words, the prior is being a key value of getting a good adaptation. As a goal of meta-learning approaches, learning using a single gradient step in the inner update may lead to a bad performance. Especially if the prior that we use is far from the expected one, or it works in the opposite way that it is very effective to adapt the model. By this reason, we propose to add a weight term to decrease, or increase in some conditions, the effect of this prior. The experiment on few-shot learning shows that emphasizing or weakening the prior can give better performance than using its original value.

The main objective of this research is to investigate whether the RFM (recency-frequency-monetary value) information of a customer's redemption behavior of loyalty points can improve the prediction of future value of the customer. The conventional measurement of customer value has been primarily based on purchase transactions behavior although a customer's future behavior can be also influenced by other interactions between the customer and the firm such as redemption of rewards in a loyalty program. We theorize why a customer's redemption behavior can influence her future purchases and thereby the customer's total value based on operant learning theory, goal gradient hypothesis, and lock-in effect. Using a dataset from a major book store in Korea spanning three years between 2008 and 2010, we analyze both purchase transactions and redemption records of over 10,000 customers. The results show that the redemption-based RFM information does improve the prediction accuracy of the customer's future purchases. Based on this result, we also propose an improved estimate of customer lifetime value (CLV) by combining purchase transactions and loyalty points redemption data. Managerial implications will be also discussed for firms managing loyalty programs to maximize the total value customers.

The purpose of inlet baffle is to distribute the flow uniformly over the entire cross-sectional area of the sedimentation basin. The goal when designing this baffle is to achieve some head loss while keeping the velocity gradients through the ports equal to the velocity gradient in the end of the flocculator, so as to not break up the flocs. Sedimentation tank performance is strongly influenced by hydrodynamic and physical effects such as inlet design. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of open ratio of the inlet baffle on hydraulic behavior within a rectangular sedimentation basin using CFD simulation and ADV technique. In order to verify the CFD simulation, we measured the factual velocity at 18 points in the full-scale sedimentation basin at Y water treatment plant. Good agreement was obtained between the CFD predictions and the experimentally measured data. From the simulation results of the existing basin with 7.4 % open ratio, it was investigated that extreme decrease in velocity occurred in the middle of basin. Since then, flow features was unstable. The region which the velocity decrease rapidly moved forward to the flow direction in proportion to the increase of inflow velocity. Also, it was investigated that the flow characteristic of 6.0 % open ratio was significantly different from 7.4 % open ratio at the same configuration condition. These results are a clear indication that inflow momentum and open ratio are the parameters affecting the characteristics of hydraulic patterns. The influence of these parameters on the sedimentation performance requires further study.
Purpose: Titanium implants are widely used in the treatment of dentition defects; however, due to problems such as osseointegration failure, peri-implant bone resorption, and periimplant inflammation, their application is subject to certain restrictions. The surface modification of titanium implants can improve the implant success rate and meet the needs of clinical applications. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of the use of porous titanium with a chitosan/hydroxyapatite coating on osseointegration. Methods: Titanium implants with a dense core and a porous outer structure were prepared using a computer-aided design model and selective laser sintering technology, with a fabricated chitosan/hydroxyapatite composite coating on their surfaces. In vivo and in vitro experiments were used to assess osteogenesis. Results: The quasi-elastic gradient and compressive strength of porous titanium implants were observed to decrease as the porosity increased. The in vitro experiments demonstrated that, the porous titanium implants had no biological toxicity; additionally, the porous structure was shown to be superior to dense titanium with regard to facilitating the adhesion and proliferation of osteoblast-like MC3T3-E1 cells. The in vivo experimental results also showed that the porous structure was beneficial, as bone tissue could grow into the pores, thereby exhibiting good osseointegration. Conclusions: Porous titanium with a chitosan/hydroxyapatite coating promoted MC3T3-E1 cell proliferation and differentiation, and also improved osseointegration in vitro. This study has meaningful implications for research into ways of improving the surface structures of implants and promoting implant osseointegration.

In order to predict the free surface signature of turbulent ship wakes two things are essential; a basic understanding of the mechanism of turbulent vortical flow/free surface interactions and a mathematical model to accurately predict the signature. The goal of the study described here is both to supplement experimental work to obtain basic understanding, as well as to condense this understanding in a model(or models) that captures the essential phenomena and thus allows predictions. To do so we followed two main paths guided by experimental observations. One is full simulations of the flow using the clavier-Stokes equations. The other is a vortex modeling, where the vortical structures of the flows are approximated by idealized structures, an the interaction assumed to be essentially inviscid. These approaches complement each other. Full simulations are only applicable to small scale phenomena, where the system is simple, and the Reynolds number is low. The vortex modeling, on the other hand, cannot represent essentially viscous aspects of the problem such as the effect of contamination gradient. Obviously, the modeling is what may eventually lead to a prediction method; the full simulations-too limited to mimic all but the simplest circumstances-are to aid and support the construction of realistic models. We address two-dimensional aspects of the vortex/free surface interaction first. Secondly we obtain some basic understanding of the interaction process through an experiment and then talk about several three-dimensional problems hoping to develop a successful prediction model.
