Purpose: This study aimed at exploring the product choice tendency differences between the consciousness and unconsciousness of goal orientation when product attributes is perceived to be compatible with the goal orientation. Research design, data and methodology: Empirical study used a 2 (goal conscious vs. unconscious) × 3 (hedonic vs. performance vs. reliability attribute) between-subjects design and one control group. To verify hypotheses, χ2-test was conducted to 320 questionnaire data answered by undergraduate students of Jiangxi Normal University in China. Results: First, consumers under unconscious condition showed a higher product choice consistency based on compatibility between hedonic (performance) attribute of the product and their hedonic (performance) promotion goal-orientation than those under the conscious condition. Second, product choice effects of compatibility between reliability attribute of the product and prevention goal orientation were not significantly different between consumers' consciousness and unconsciousness of their prevention goal orientation. Conclusions: Marketers of 'under dog' should try to develop and deliver the product attributes different from the attributes of 'top dog.' And the 'top dog' marketers should help their customers to avoid the conflicts by developing the environment of inducing their goal orientation unconsciously. Brand marketers should always pay attention to the reliability attributes concerned with the prevention goal orientation.

This study presents a more comprehensive approach to investigate how Emotional Intelligence (EI) is associated with performance. Previous research has revealed that EI is related to positive outcomes such as better performance, life satisfaction and career success. However, in most research of EI, this factor has been investigated independently from the effect of contextual factors and other individual characteristics. This study extended the research on the impact of EI on student performance by simultaneously examining the impact of EI, individual factors - (1) Perseverance of Effort, (2) Goal Consistency and (3) Goal Clarity and learning environment factors - Program Fit in one study. The results based on the data collected from 1,117 students in Vietnam largely support the hypothesis that that EI was an important but not the only factor affecting the student performance. MANOVA and post-hoc analysis indicated that both individual and environmental factors better predicted performance than EI could. These results suggest that the impact of EI on individual performance is more complicated than what we have already known. Future study is encouraged to investigate both the mechanism through which EI impact individual performance and the interaction between EI and other factors that moderate the EI - performance relationship.
This study was conducted as a part of the project to evaluate the quality of mathematics instruction in the national curriculum system. The purpose of this study is to measure the consistency between teaching goals of mathematics curriculum, contents presentation of textbooks, and testing including adequacy of each element in mathematics instruction for 8th grade. To do this, we used MIQP (instructional quality profile for Mathematics) developed basing on the instructional quality profile (IQP) in the previous research of the project. First, the quality of textbooks' content presentation for 8th grade was found that the desirable levels in number and operation area and geometric area was relatively less compared to other areas, but it was generally good. Second, it was found that the quality of mathematics testing for 8th grade was good in terms of consistency with the curriculum's teaching goals, consistency with the content presentation of textbooks, and adequacy of testing. However, regional differences in the quality of testing showed that there were some deficiencies in regions outside the metropolitan.
Identifying crosscutting concerns during requirements engineering phase is one of the most essential parts in Aspect-Oriented Software Development. Considering crosscutting concerns in the earlier phase of the development improves consistency among requirements so that it can help maintain software systems efficiently and effectively. It also provides a systematic way to manage requirements changes by supporting traceability throughout the software lifecycle. Thus, identifying tangled and scattered concerns, and encapsulating them into separate entities must be addressed from the early phase of the development. To do so, first, functional and non-functional concerns must be clearly separated. Second, a pointcut where a main concern meets crosscutting concerns should be defined and specified precisely. Third, it is required to detect conflicts being occurred during composition of crosscutting concerns from the earlier phase. Therefore, this paper proposes a systematic approach to identifying and specifying crosscutting concerns using goal-scenario based requirements analysis. And we demonstrate the applicability of the approach by applying it into the intelligent service robot system.

File systems and applications try to implement their own update protocols to guarantee data consistency, which is one of the most crucial aspects of computing systems. However, we found that the storage devices are substantially under-utilized when preserving data consistency because they generate massive storage write traffic with many disk cache flush operations and force-unit-access (FUA) commands. In this paper, we present DJFS (Delta-Journaling File System) that provides both a high level of performance and data consistency for different applications. We made three technical contributions to achieve our goal. First, to remove all storage accesses with disk cache flush operations and FUA commands, DJFS uses small-sized NVRAM for a file system journal. Second, to reduce the access latency and space requirements of NVRAM, DJFS attempts to journal compress the differences in the modified blocks. Finally, to relieve explicit checkpointing overhead, DJFS aggressively reflects the checkpoint transactions to file system area in the unit of the specified region. Our evaluation on TPC-C SQLite benchmark shows that, using our novel optimization schemes, DJFS outperforms Ext4 by up to 64.2 times with only 128 MB of NVRAM.

In order to manage the wet end chemistry on paper machines, our goal is to control sub-processes through which we can influence the entire wet end operations with maximum effect. The most important sub-processes are: consistency, ash, and chemistry. The management of these three main groups is based on on-line maesurements and automatic control. This paper presents a new wet end management platform, a new analyzer. This new analyzer utilizes a modular structure and modem software. It is part of a new paper machine concept. The controls of this concept are feedback and feedforward solutions that control retention, consistencies, ash, and charge, resulting in a more stable wet end (30...80%), more uniform paper, and better rnnability.
This study examined the relationship of grit, goal perception and academic adjustment of adult female students in a distance university. We additionally investigated how academic work-family conflict and social support influenced the grit-adjustment relationship. Grit is defined as passion and perseverance for long-term goals and it has been known as one of the predictors of adjustment indicators including academic achievement. A total of 642 female students in a distance university were participated in the survey and a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was utilized for data analysis. Results showed that our model fit data well, specifically, two components of grit (i.e. consistency of interest and perseverance of effort) positively predicted academic adjustment. Results from analyses of specific indirect effects revealed that consistency of interest was found to have a positive direct effect on academic adjustment while perseverance of effort had a positive indirect effect via goal perception, suggesting the discriminant predictability of grit's two components. Lastly, academic work-family conflict was found to negatively predict academic adjustment while social support predicted a positive academic adjustment via goal perception.
Questions of why, what, and how represent the new perspective on goal construct. This paper proposed a novel approach toward the goal construct as a dynamic decision-making process. A number of researchers have agreed that goals initiate and sustain human motivation. In spite of the consistency in emphasis on goals, there are apparent inconsistencies in definitions of goal construct across theories and research. These inconsistences hinder interdisciplinary communication about goal construct, which in turn leads to jingle-jangle fallacy. Therefore, on the basis of systematic literature review, I defined the goal construct as a multifaceted and hierarchical decision-making process to structure desired end-states. The first process is generating goals, which can be also called "why" process. During this phase, individuals generate cognitive schema about general direction of desired end-states based on the conscious and nonconscious interpretation of subjective experience. The second process is goal setting, which can be called "what" process. Here, individuals clarify contents of multiple goals and structure hierarchy and priority of them. The last process is implementing goals, "how" process. This process contains decision making about whether he/she decides to implement the goal or not and how to execute goal-directed behaviors. In the last section of this paper, I tried to suggest several practical applications of this new perspective for adolescents, who struggle with why-what-how to have goals in learning context.
This paper describes the design and implementation of file system which allows the collaborative computing in mobile environment. The design goal is to make a logically one file system in the distributed computer systems. The characteristics of frequent, foreseeable and variable disconnections in a mobile environment wrer taken into consideration. We introduce an auto-hoarding system that provides the availability of large number of nodes which are weakly and intermittently connected. The data consistency problems in distributed or replicated mobile data are also discussed.
The purpose of this study was to compare gifted and non-gifted high school students on their perceptions of success, grit, aspirations, and achievement goal orientation. Of the 550 high school students surveyed from 4 high schools (i.e., two schools for gifted, two school for non-gifted) in three metropolitan cities, Korea, 496 (i.e., 153 gifted and 343 non-gifted) completed and returned the questionnaire yielding a total response rate of 90.18%. Measures of students' grit (i.e., consistency of interest, and perseverance of effort), aspirations (i.e., intrinsic aspirations - physical fitness, self-growth, affiliation, community contribution, and extrinsic aspirations - financial success, image, fame), achievement goal orientation (i.e., mastery, performance approach and performance avoidance), and perceptions of success (i.e., Success in life is pretty much determined by forces outside our control.) were administered. It was found that the majority of gifted students and non-gifted students perceived that "success is outside our control.", and chose 'hard-working' as the most influential factor on their success. 60.4% of non-gifted students chose 'wealthy family background' as the other most influential factor, whereas only 48.2% of gifted did. Gifted students had higher 'consistency of interest' and 'mastery goals' than non-gifted students. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that grit (i.e., perseverance of effort) was the crucial contributors for enhancing both gifted and non-gifted students' mastery goals and performance approach goals. Results are discussed in relation to theoretical implications and school settings.
