  • A new lupane triterpenoid saponin, 3, 11-dihydroxy-lupan-20-en-28-oic acid 28-o-$\alpha$-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1$\rightarrow$4)-$\beta$-D-glucopyranosyl-(1$\rightarrow$6)-B-D-glucopyranosyl ester, have been isolated from the leaves of Acanthopanax koreanum Nakai (Araliaceae) together with one known flavonol glycoside, rutin. The structure were elucidated on the basis of spectral and chemical evidence.

  • Methanol extract of Ilex pubescens roots prolonged bleeding time threefold, and inhibited the generation of malondialdehyde released during platelet aggregation inducted by thrombin. Through several purification procedures, its saponin, named ilexoside, was proved to be responsible for the antithrombotic activities of the plant. Ilexosides A, -D and -J and 24-carboxypomolic acid showed strong inhibitory activities on platelet aggregation induced by thrombin.

  • Phytochemical examination of the leaves of Alnus hirsuta, one of the indigenous species grows in Korea, has led to the isolation of one flavan 3-ol and two flavonol glycosides. Structures of these compounds are identified as (-)-epicatechin (1), quercetin $3-O-{\beta}-D-galactopyranoside$ (2), quercetin $3-O-{\beta}-D-galactopyranoside$ (3) by means of physico-chemical and spectral evidences.

  • Two flavone glycosides have been obtained from the aerial part of Cirsium japonicum var. ussuriense Kitamura(Co,positae) in Korea and identified by means of spectral analysis as linarin and cirsimarin. When 10-2mg/ml of cirsimas was added, lipid peroxide formation in the rat liver decreased by 12% compare to control.

  • The aqueous ethanolic leaf extract of Ailanthus altissima was found to contain the new natural product, $luteolin\;7-O-{\beta}-(6"-galloylglucopyranoside)$, 13, along with fourteen known phenolic metabolites (1-12, 14 and 15). Structures of all compounds (1-15) were established by conventional methods of analysis and confirmed by FAB-MS, $^1H-\;and\;^{13}C-NMR$ spectral analysis.

  • The protective effects of acteoside, a phenylethanoid glycoside, on cabon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity and the possible mechanisms involved in this protection were investigated in mice. Pretreatment with acteoside prior to the administration of carbon tetrachloride significantly prevented the increased serum enzymatic activities of alanine and aspartate aminotransferase in a dose-dependent manner. • Ten compounds were isolated from the methanolic extract of the whole plants of Diodia teres through repeated silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. Their chemical structures were elucidated as three iridoid glycosides, a coumarin glycoside, and six flavonoids by spectroscopic analysis. These compounds were isolated for the first time from D. teres.
