Semi-solid forging(SSF) process of A356 aluminium alloy has been studied to assess the effect of process variables on the component integrity. Semi-solid material(SSM) was fabricated by mechanical and electro-magnetic stirring process. The fabricated SSM by using mechanical stirring process has been carried out on cooling rate of 0.022.deg. C/sec 0.0094.deg. C/sec and stirring speed n=600, 1000 rpm, respectively. The fabricated SSM by using electro-magnetic stirring process is supplied by Pechiney. The holding time and temperature in the semi-solid state before forging also affects the globular microstructure of alloy. Therefore, the influence of these two parameters is discussed in terms of the microstructure of alloy. The SSF process has been conducted with three different die temperatures($T_{die}$=250.deg. C, 300.deg. C, 350.deg. C) and two kinds of gate types(straight gate and orifice gate). This paper is to investigate the influence of gate shapes of die on filling phenomena in SSF process more deeply. The mechanical properties of forged components were also investigated for variation of process conditions such as die temperature, gate shape and SSM.
We present space-based near-IR (NIR) and optical photometry of globular clusters (GCs) of 16 early-type galaxies in the Fornax and Virgo Clusters. The NIR imaging data for the nearby galaxies was acquired with the IR Channel of the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3/IR) in the F110W ($J_{110}$) and F160W ($H_{160}$) bandpasses. We introduce the full sample of our WFC3/IR program, describe data reductions and photometric measurements including GC candidate selection criteria, and then show selected GCs' color-magnitude diagrams. The tilted features in the diagrams related to the morphological types of host galaxies are discussed in the context of galaxy formation and evolution histories. Combining F475W ($g_{475}$) and F850LP ($z_{850}$) data taken from the Advanced Camera for Surveys Virgo and Fornax Cluster Surveys with our NIR data, we investigate the bimodality in optical-NIR color distribution and the nonlinear feature of the optical-NIR color relation as a function of optical color for these extragalactic GC systems.

Objective : To evaluate whether an early bone marrow edema pattern predicts vertebral deformity types and prognosis in osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF). Methods : This retrospective study enrolled 64 patients with 75 acute OVCFs who underwent early MRI and followed up MRI. On early MRI, the low SI pattern of OVCF on T1WI were assessed and classified into 3 types (diffuse, globular or patchy, band-like). On followed up MRI, the vertebral deformity types (anterior wedge, biconcave, crush), degree of vertebral body height loss, incidence of vertebral osteonecrosis and spinal stenosis were assessed for each vertebral fracture types. Results : According to the early bone marrow edema pattern on T1WI, 26 vertebrae were type 1, 14 vertebrae were type 2 and 35 vertebrae were type 3. On followed up MRI, the crush-type vertebral deformity was most frequent among the type 1 OVCFs, the biconcave-type vertebral deformity was most frequent among the type 2 OVCFs and the anterior wedge-type vertebral deformity was most frequent among the type 3 OVCFs (p<0.001). In addition, type 1 early bone marrow edema pattern of OVCF on T1WI were associated with higher incidence of severe degree vertebral body height loss, vertebral osteonecrosis and spinal stenosis on the follow up MRI. Conclusion : Early bone marrow edema pattern of OVCF on T1WI, significant correlated with vertebral deformity types on the follow up MRI. The severe degree of vertebral height loss, vertebral osteonecrosis, and spinal stenosis were more frequent in patients with diffuse low SI pattern.

To estimate soil behavior and structural characteristics under the conditions of cyclic loading, freezing & thawing and initial state, several testing was performed and obtained following results. 1.After repeated freezing and thawing processes, original soil structure was destroyed and changed to globular structure from honeycomb or tube in its structure types. Also above processes resulted increasing the soil compression strain while decreasing the failure stress in stress-strain relationship and reached the soil structure into the mode of brittle fracture. Under cyclic loading conditions, soil cluster which was originally dispersed structure colloided with each other, seperated, and finally the soil failed due to the effect of overcompaction. 2.Through the stabilization processes seperated by four steps, the structure of soil skeleton was changed to quite different globular type. The degree of compressibility of soil was decreased in the normally consolidated zone, while the strength against external load increased due to soil particle stabilization. 3.Soil stress-strain chracteristics were largely influenced by repeated up and down processes of temperature. The maximum deformation was obtained in the case of temperature between 0 10˚C by the reseon of particle cluster reformation. 4.Soil compressibility was largely influenced by the optimum moisture content. Under freezing process, swelling could be found and its magnitude was proportional to the density of soil. 5.Density of soil was decreased as increasing the number or repeated freezing and thawing processes and the largest decreasing rate was found at the first turning point from freezing to thawing cycle.

The heterogeneous nucleation of the ${\Theta}^{\prime}$ phase on nanoscale precipitates has been investigated using a combination of three-dimensional atom probe tomography and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Two types of ${\Theta}^{\prime}$ phases were observed, namely small (~2 nm thick) cylindrical precipitates and larger (~100 nm) globular precipitates and both appear to be heterogeneously nucleated on the nanoscale precipitates. The composition and crystal structure of precipitates were directly analyzed by combination of two advanced characterization techniques.
About two hundred stars within 50 pc from the sun, whose tangential velocity larger than 100 km/sec, have been selected on the basis of their proper motions and trigonometric parallaxes. A list of them along with their photoelectric UBV data and spectral types is given. The criterion on the tangential velocity, $v_t$ > 132 km/sec, was adopted for selection of high-velocity stars. The H-R diagram of these nearby high-velocity stars resembles that of a globular cluster, with the turnoff around $B-V{\approx}0.35$ and $M_v{\approx}4.0$, and the subdwarfs among these high-velocity stars are fainter than the main-sequence stars of Hyades by the amount of $1^m.25{\pm}0^m.30$ in the region with B-V < 1.40 on the average.
Cell differentiation and ultrastructural characteristics in the seminiferous epithelium of Myotis macrodactylus was investigated with the light and electron microscopes. Spermatogenesis has begun at April and finished at September. The nuclei of A spermatogonia (dark and pale type of spermatogonia) were oval, applied to the basal lamina, and surrounded by Sertoli cells. By comparison with other types of spermatogonia, the cell and nucleus of B type of spermatogonium is globular and larger than A types of spermatogonia. The nucleolus appears as a coarse and touches the nuclear membrane. The cell and nucleus of spermatocytes was globular and larger, but primary spematocyte is larger than secondary spermatocyte. Spermiogenesis was divided according to the level of fine structural difference, into Golgi, cap, acrosomal, maturation and spermiation phases; Golgi, cap, acrosomal and spermiation phases were further subdivided into steps of early and late phase respectively, and maturation phase has only one step. Hence, the spermiogenesis has been divided into a total of nine phases. In the change of karyoplasm, the chromatin granules are condensed at late Golgi phase and completed at spermiation phase. The sperm tail began to develop in early Golgi phase and completed in spermiation phase. The process of degeneration of spermatogenic cells in the seminiferous tubules was continually observed from October, before the beginning of hibernation, to hibernation phase (November, December, January, February, March). Immatured spermatogenic cells in the seminiferous tubules have been engulfed by phagocytosis of Sertoli cells during period of degeneration. It is deduced that the adaptative strategy serves as the mechanism to regulate the effective use of energy to prepare for long hibernation and regulation of breeding cycle.
This study is focusing on mixing the foamed concrete incorporated by waste expanded polystyrene(W-EPS), investigating the physical properties and offering a proper quality control method to the field engineers. Two types of W-EPS (type A and type B) were studied. Type A (B) had globular (crushed) shape and diameter of 3-5 (1-2) mm. The results show that the flow was suddenly reduced with increasing mixing quantity of two types, but it satisfies KS F 4039 until 60 % of mixing rate. In general, the absorption rate was suddenly reduced with increased mixing quantity of two types especially, in type A. Apparent specific gravity was 0.36∼0.53 and reduced with increasing mixing quantify of type A. But it increased in case of type B. Compressive strength and heat conduction rate increased with mixing with W-EPS than non-mixing W-EPS but reduced with mixing too much W-EPS. Based ong the results, it is believed that mixing with W-EPS can improve the recycle of industrial wastes and produce the high quality foamed concrete.
The achene morphology about 16 taxa of Korean Aster L. sensu lato were investigated to estimate its taxonomic values. The achene shapes were divided into four types; oblanceolate-oblong, obovate, oblong and obovate-oblong. The trichome shape on achene six types; uniseriate-conical, filiform, cylindrical, capitate type, long stalk capitate and globular. Their distributional features on upper part of achene four types; absent, sparse distribution of conical trichome, dense distribution of conical trichome and mixed distribution of conical and capitate trichome. The achene shapes and trichome characteristics were regarded to be a good characters in delimiting taxa because these did not differ among individuals in same taxa, but differ among the taxa. If Korean Aster L. sensu late were divided into Kalimeris, Heteropappus, Aster, Cymnaster, the capitate forms and mixed distribution of conical and capitate trichome were recognized as the good characters in delimting above section such as genus Kalimeris and Heteropappus, section Pseudocalimeris of Aster L. sensu stricto.
Cankers are localized dead areas in the bark of stems, branches or twigs of many types of trees and shrubs, and are usually caused by fungi. We observed severe canker symptoms in oak trees located in Gyeongnam province in 2011. A total 31 trees were discovered with cankers of varied size, with an average of $48.5{\times}15.2cm$. Black, half-rounded globular mound shaped stromata were associated with the cankers, and the asci of the fungi associated with the cankers were cylindrical shaped with their spore-bearing parts being up to 84 ${\mu}m$ in length. The average fungal ascospores size was $7.59{\times}4.23{\mu}m$. The internal transcribed spacer sequence for the canker causing fungus showed 99% similarity to the sequence of $Annulohypoxylon$$truncatum$. In this study, the isolated fungus was precisely described and then compared with fungi of similar taxa.
