  • Since the launch of WTO. the global telecommunications market has been accelerated to ensure interoperability between the various telecommunications or services and this effort is emerging as the realization of an importance of standardization. In addition, in recent years as standardization is recognized not as just a means of ensuring interoperability but as a key strategic means of economic survival in the new trade order at the international regional, and national levels. Thus, each country is working actively to process telecommunications standardization through such means as multilateral cooperation and collective counter-strategies, which are mapped out, in the various regional and global fora and consortia. In keeping with these trends, Asia-Pacific Telecommunity, which is taking charge of telecommunications affairs of Asia-Pacific region, has been pursuing not only regional common interests but enhancement of its status in the world market by standardization on the basis of intimate collaboration, obtained by establishing regional standardization organization named ASTAP(APT Standardization Program). Bearing in mind the consideration outlined above, this paper aims to analyze telecommunications standardization policy intended by Asia-Pacific regional standardization organization and accordingly, to suggest a strategy for strengthening telecommunications standardization activities in Asia-Pacific region.

  • As international standards of ICT were recently recognized as a essential strategy to penetrate into global markets in advance, the competition for international standardization among advanced countries and companies has been intensified. Also, the convergence of ICT and other industry as well as that of ICT and broadcasting has caused the expansion of range and importance in standardization. It is necessary to set up the strategy of standardization on essential technology and implement it systematically in order to take leading position in global market of IC in smart information society of the 21th century. Therefore, in this paper, I'll suggest constructive strategies of standardization through analyzing the trend and environment of IC standardization.

  • With the advent of smart age, the concern on smart work has gradually increased in solving our social problems including low birth, aging, low productivity and green growth with low carbon as well as encouraging the balance between work and life. In addition, the competitiveness among companies and countries to preoccupy the advanced smart work technologies which lead the economic growth in the future have increased more than ever before. So have global standard competitiveness done under the situation of using international standardization as practical strategy for dominating market. It is essential to make standardization strategy and do systematic implementation for core technology which leads global market in order to fit such an environment and introduce smart work as soon as possible. Therefore, this paper suggests standardization items which lead global standard and implementation direction on standardization through analysing the current situation introducing smart work and technology/standardization trend.

  • The IPTV Standardization work being done by the ITU-T in collaboration with other SDOs and telecommunication companies. Currently IPTV services are provided with no global standards and interoperability. ITU-T leads the process of IPTV standardization. We used the ITU-Ts working documents which were publically available to investigate the direction of IPTV standardization process. Many things including architecture, services, service requirements, codec and error correction mechanisms etc already defined through recommendations. But still there is effort going on to standardize the complete IPTV system.

  • In this paper, we investigate the determinant factors of performance of global standardization experts in their standardization activities. Standards experts of various nationalities were surveyed to assess incentives that may positively influence the performance of standards professionals. As a basis for this study, we make three main assumptions. First, incentives can be important determinant factors of performance among standards experts. Second, standardization is in the public interest, insofar as the efficiency gains resulting from standardization benefit society as a whole. Third, based on this assumption that standardization is in the public interest, we propose that performance determinants for standardization activities tend to be non-monetary in nature rather than monetary. We find that, in order to improve performance among international standards experts, a better understanding of their aspirations and needs must be gained so that appropriate incentives may be proposed to them. Our analysis reveals that the two most important determinant factors of performance are the recognition of the professional status of international standards experts, and an environment providing support systems to help them perform to their fullest potential.

  • Service and technology for the future hyper-connected society, which is every information receive through the mobile internet, will be an Internet of Things. Thus, it is mandatory to derive key standardization work item and establish strategy for the global business with the standardization of device and service platform by the application service. In this study, by analyzing the domestic and international market trends, state of technical development, and standardization of technology, we identified the open platform is the stepping stone for achieving the goal which is establishing the virtuous circulation of IoT ecosystem. Also, we defined emphasized key standardization work item for achieving the open platform are network, server, access authentication, billing system, and software platform. After that, we proposed future strategy direction of standardization. This research could be contribute to the IoT service diffusion by realizing IP communication among low power wireless terminals and implementing light-weight standard internet protocol.

  • This study examines the effect of external environments such as technological change and competitive intensity on standardization. It was empirically tested by a Korean sample to verify the validity of the research framework. The empirical result confirms that external environments increase the odds of marketing standardization and technology standardization. The result also indicates that technology change and global standardization are related. The data support that firms facing a high rate of technology change stress marketing and technology standardization. The result also confirms that competitive intensity directly influences marketing standardization.

  • With the advent of smart age, the concern on smart work has gradually increased in the situation that creative innovation capability has become one of the important elements in business competitiveness. Most domestic small and medium-sized businesses have partly introduced smart work system due to the lack of its recognition and understanding about a specific method to implement. Under the environment, it is essential to make standardization strategy and do systematic implementation for core technology which leads global market in order to secure the dominant position in smart work related technologies. Therefore, this paper suggests standardization items which lead global standard and implementation direction on standardization through analysing the current situation introducing smart work in small and medium-sized business and technology/standardization trends.

  • Three major Asian countries, Korea, China, and Japan, shared 18.3% of global GDP and 14.2% of global trade volume in 2005. When considering this number, cooperation of these three countries is very important. Also, it is needless to say that we need efficient international logistics system in Asia. The key point to realize efficient international logistics system is unit load system utilizing pallets and containers. To build up efficient logistics system among Korea, China, and Japan, we need 'total palletization' with standardized pallets. We may regard 'total palletization' as an 'efficient highway of North-Eastern Asia logistics.' In this study, we will suggest two kinds of effects, which logistics standardization among Korea, China, and Japan will make. One is the effect on economy and trade, and the other is the effect on logistics business and environments.
