Video based surveillance systems based on an active camera require a fast algorithm for real time detection and tracking of local motion in the presence of global motion. This paper presents a new fast and efficient motion detection and tracking algorithm using the displaced frame difference (DFD). In the Proposed algorithm, first, a Previous frame is adaptively selected according to the magnitude of object motion, and the global motion is estimated by using only a few confident matching blocks for a fast and accurate result. Then, a DFD is obtained between the current frame and the selected previous frame displaced by the global motion. Finally, a moving object is extracted from the noisy DFD by utilizing the correlation between the DFD and current frame. We implement this algorithm into an active camera system including a pan-tilt unit and a standard PC equipped with an AMD 800MHz processor. The system can perform the exhaustive search for a search range of 120, and achieve the processing speed of about 50 frames/sec for video sequences of 320$\times$240. Thereby, it provides satisfactory tracking results.

This paper describes the design of a Coordinates Tracking algorithm for EOTS and its error analysis. EOTS stabilizes the image sensors such as FLIR, CCD TV camera, LRF/LD, and so on, tracks targets automatically, and provides navigation capability for vehicles. The Coordinates Tracking algorithm calculates the azimuth and the elevation angle of EOTS using the inertial navigation system and the attitude sensors of the vehicle, so that LOS designates the target coordinates which is generated by a Radar or an operator. In the error analysis in this paper, the unexpected behaviors of EOTS that is due to the time delay and deadbeat of the digital signals of the vehicle equipments are anticipated and the countermeasures are suggested. This algorithm is verified and the error analysis is confirmed through simulations. The application of this algorithm to EOTS will improve the operational capability by reducing the time which is required to find the target and support especially the flight in a night time flight and the poor weather condition.

GPS(Global Positioning System) location tracking is a method for taking the precise coordinates after the coordinates are obtained by a GPS receiver, and displaying them on the map. In this paper with WAVE(Wireless Access for Vehicular Environment) simulation, we show that various services such as vehicle tracking service, real-time road conditions service and logistics can go tracking service, control and operation services according to the vehicle position and the traveling direction by using the GPS position data. A vehicle tracking system using GPS is automatically able to manage multiple RCP when exchanging data between RMA and the RCP, and it provides rapid requests and responses. To verify that multiple sessions between RMA and RM, as well as multiple sessions between RMA and RCP are able to be implemented, we take RMA as a RCP application on an OBU, until the RMA is receiving data response from corresponding RM. As a result of this experiment, we show that the response speeds of single session between RMA and RM using 1, 2, 3, and 4 kbyte unit data are similar, 62.32ms, 62.65ms, 63.02ms, and 63.48ms, respectively. Likewise, those of 128 muliple sessions using 1, 2, 3, and 4 kbyte unit data are not much more time difference, 298.08ms, 302.21ms, 322.85ms, and 329.62ms, respectively.

The existing mobile antenna networks in the military use have been operated by the manual pointing between two antennas. The work presented here describes the study of ATPC(Automatic Tracking and Pointing Control) system between facing antennas and the related tracking and pointing performances. This system is able to automatically track the maximum RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) value from the source's RF(Radio Frequency) signal and then control for maintaining the LOS(Line of Sight) between two antennas. The system has three major units; the driving unit consisting of motors, harmonic drives and encoders, the sensor unit with a GPS(Global Positioning System) and AHRS(Attitude and Heading Reference System) and the control unit regulating all the tracking and pointing events. By using PI(Proportional and Integral) controller, this system is able to properly track and point the other antenna under the external disturbance like the wind load. Both the simulation and the experimental works have been successively carried out to prove the performances of the system.
This paper proposes a new linear recursive target state estimator for automotive collision warning system. The target motion is modeled in Cartesian coordinate system while the radar measurements such as range, line-of-sight angle and range rate are obtained in polar coordinate system. To solve the problem by nonlinear relation between these two coordinate system, a practical linear filter design scheme employing the predicted line-of-sight Cartesian coordinate system (PLCCS) is proposed. Especially, PLCCS can effectively incorporate range rate measurements into target tracking system. It is known that the utilization of range rate measurements enables the improvement of target tracking performance. Moreover, PLCCS based target tracking system is implemented by linear recursive filter structure and hence is more suitable scheme for the development of reliable collision warning system. The performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by computer simulations.
On January 1, 2024, an earthquake with a moment magnitude of 7.5 occurred on the Noto Peninsula in Japan. The earthquake caused significant surface displacement on the Noto Peninsula. The surface displacement is measured by global navigation satellite system (GNSS) base stations, but there are limitations in obtaining information in areas where base stations do not exist. Therefore, in this study, we aim to determine the horizontal land surface displacement across the Noto Peninsula using offset tracking, which can detect rapidly occurring displacement. As a result of analyzing the Noto Peninsula using the offset tracking technique, it was found that more horizontal surface displacement occurred in the northwest region than in the northeast region of the Noto Peninsula, where the epicenter was located, and the surface displacement value reached a maximum of 2.9 m. The results of this study can be used to calculate surface displacement values in areas where surface displacement data are not available through ground GNSS base stations.

In this paper, we design a local signal to improve a tracking performance of time-multiplexed binary offset carrier (TMBOC) signal, which was adopted in modernized global positioning systems (GPS). Specifically, considering that TMBOC signal includes BOC(6,1) components, we first obtain local signal by evenly dividing sub-carrier of TMBOC(6,1,4/33) by the period of a BOC(6,1) pulse. Finally, we remove side-peaks of TMBOC(6,1,4.33) autocorrelation via combination of partial correlations given from designed local signal and solve the ambiguity problem. From numerical results, when performing signal tracking using the designed local signal, we demonstrate that the improved tracking error standard deviation (TESD) performance is offered as compared its autocorrelation and the conventional correlation functions.
Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) under the partial shading condition is a challenging research topic for photovoltaic systems. Shaded photo-voltaic module result in complex peak patterns on the power versus voltage curve which can misguide classical MPPT algorithms. Thus, various kinds of global MPPT algorithms have been studied. These have typically consisted of partial shading detection, global peak search and MPPT. The conventional partial shading detection algorithm aims to detect all of the occurrences of partial shading. This results in excessive execution of global peak searches and discontinuous operation of the MPPT. This in turn, reduces the achievable power for the PV module. Based on a theoretical investigation of power verse voltage curve patterns under various partial shading conditions, it is realized that not all the occurrences of partial shadings require a global peak search. Thus, an intelligent partial shading detection algorithm that provides exact identification of global peak search necessity is essential for the efficient utilization of solar energy resources. This paper presents a new partial shading determinant algorithm utilizing adaptive threshold levels. Conventional methods tend to be too sensitive to sharp shading patterns but insensitive to smooth patterns. However, the proposed algorithm always shows superb performance, regardless of the partial shading patterns.
This paper describes a new feature based tracking system that can track moving objects with a pan-tilt camera. We extract corner features of the scene and tracks the features using filtering, The global motion energy caused by camera movement is eliminated by finding the maximal matching position between consecutive frames using Pyramidal template matching. The region of moving object is segmented by clustering the motion trajectories and command the pan-tilt controller to follow the object such that the object will always lie at the center of the camera. The proposed system has demonstrated good performance for several video sequences.
